I was attacking a sheep.. and he got a swirlie. As in... I saw a swirlie around him.

yes. The offset of the graphic effects are slightly... bugged.

No no, he means: Yes, it was your swirlie.
The graphics for swirlies (and for spells) seems to be off, because as Nitram said, it's slightly bugged.
