More music

Hi, I would really like to hear more music in Illarion. I am curious if it is setup to play mp3 or if it only plays midi at the moment. I have the secondary motivation that I play a bard, and chose this as I have a music composition degree, and a deep love of ancient music. It would be fun if players who have the necessary historical knowledge could record pieces of music that were accurate to the setting, that could be heard somehow. Just a though, but it would be a fun addition.
In general though, I would be happy if there was more music to accompany my wanderings.

The problem is:
Music doesn't pop up out of nothing.

Who creates the midi files? Putting them into the client is no problem in case its ever updated.

Its not possible to take every music, bacuse the most are legally protected.

You have to make it by your own.

Well, I do DO this for a living, just FYI ha ha. I could easily send the tracks that I have not sold licensing rights too, and create some original stuff for the fun of it. I have a couple of my past video game tracks on www.myspace.com/michaelrissling Both The Bramble Wall and Cargail are from a fantasy game I did, which I still own all the rights to, so it's as easy as me saying you can have them to use as you will, and I do have much more I could send if you want.
It would certainly be nice to have more music, from my perspective, but I think the most fun would be had if an actual musical heritage was added to the setting. I am willing to propose one, perhaps it could be added as a book or something, and used as a guidline of what would be appropriate to a setting of this type based on a European model. I would peg this timeline around fourteenth century, give or take, so it would be fun to work with and then players could actually write and record things in character.
I was kind of hoping to start a Bard guild once my PC had the resources anyway ha ha. Just a thought, but worth pondering I think. I would love to take some of the epic playing sessions players have had and turning them into a work of Illarion setting specific music. Hell I could even come up with an appropriate tuning system and put a keyboard-map on the forum for anyone who uses sequencers, as they likely would have still been using something similar to just intonation....or perhaps Zarlino's proposed tunings..something like that. At any rate, I imagine players would enjoy finding Ballades and such about their past and present characters playable somewhere in game...though that might be a bit ambitious ha ha. But a little hat tip to those RP'ers who really help make Illarion what it is.

If you want to create music, go for it.

The Illarion Client uses midi for background music and wav for sound effects.
Once we actually have some music its worth thinking how to make the client playing it.

Well I have pretty much done works in every key and mode under the sun at one time or another. Certainly have an army of major key works, too numerous to plausably list here, but when not doing work for specific project with requirments in regards to tone and such, I usually write in a very expanded style that used many non-diatonic scales and extended tonalities. Especially lately, as I have found myself getting really into R Strauss. I was more making use of the ecclesiastical modes with Bramble Wall and Cargail though, as certain modes have a strong association with traditional fantasy, and I did digress into standard tonality in both of those pieces often.
