Gambling NPC

Post by Llama »

This was inspired by the dice suggestion.

An NPC is created, who is a gambler, or better yet, a number of NPCs who gamble. These can take the form of a few people on a small boat near the river or something of the sort.

The person chooses the amount to bet (similar to buying a product from a vendor) and then plays the game with the NPC

Double or Nothing: The NPC Rps flipping a coin, and the player either wins (gets double the money) or loses (loses the money). If the chance to win is at 40% or so, it'll still be similar to a real coin, but would allow a net loss and .: a money drain.

Card Game: Again a bet is placed, but this time if a person wins (gets that 40% ;) ) the prizes may differ. Obviously depending on the bet, the person may get his money back and either a gem, something small (a pipe? some sibanac) or other trinkets of the sort. With the very high risk betting you should also be able to obtain gemmed rings and the like.

I believe something like this would be interesting. Discuss.

I am fairly sure something like this could easily be achieved by using the NPC scripting language for the rough dialogues and someone capable of Lua for the coin toss script.

Nice idea, get working on it already!

I don't have any time to learn new languages, I promise that if I have the time I'll learn the language after the coming exams...

@Hadrian;
The problem on most simple games, where you can win coins is, they are easy to cheat. (if you won`t be succumbed. .by the evil game)

ie;Even at 40%chance, you can do following:
In RL i`ld start with one copper, if i win, i keep the bet the same.
If i loose, i raise the next bet by double ammount  . . etc.
You can never loose, if you stop before the next bet exceeds a Silver ((goldcoin?!1!11, because mostly its the tactic of the dealer, to let you win . . . . in the beginning))

Never start with more then 10 coppers, in your pocket, and never bet more then quarter your cash at once.
And remember, it might be exactly time to stop, when you`ve won about fourteen copper.
Stop at least at nineteen, because the dealer gets under pressure then.

As for gambling for stuff beside coins, i would say -yes-.
Implying the "double or nothing" would only make sense, if you get half of your bet out, while when you loose, its all.

@Faldaron; I think, i can remember two to three "random"-functions in the NPClanguage,
no difficult LUA might be needed.
Though the function might only work on texts freely, by now.
((Yet i think even then it would be no problem, if you place two NPCs beside each other, so the second (dealer) reacts to the spoken word of the first (opponent)?))
