Farmland
Greetings!
I would like to make a proposal concerning where crops should be planted by farmers. I think having specific landtiles which are not grass, but "farmland" for farmers to plant their crops on would be better than having farmers able to plant their crops anywhere on just plain grass. I realize that this has topic has been touched on before so I would like to make a further proposal coming from the original one. Why not have farmers able to create their own farmland? This could come about with the introduction of a new item - the plow. Farmers carrying a plow could be able to use the plow on tiles and change them into farmland. I suggest having "Plowing" as a skill. That way farmers with low skill could try to make farmland out of grass which would be easy. It could be possible to make farmland out of desertland and forest land etc. etc. but it could be a harder! So it could go something like this. (Easiest to make farmland out of to the hardest)Grassland, forestland, desertland, and rockyland. That way farmers have to make farmland to plant their crops, but they would be able to create farmland anywhere and have an option where to create it depending on their skill.
Thank you for reading! Please give your thoughts and suggestions!

For players to be able to change grass into farmland... it just isnt' going to happen.
If that was allowed then eventually all the grass in the game would become farmland.
Now, it may be possible that some untoiled farmland might have to be plowed before it coudl be planted, but as for changing other types of land into farmland, it's unrealistic for what I mentioned.

@Separdum With the new 10x harder system I doubt anyone would get high enough skill to be able to turn all the land in illarion into farmland...
But having preset "Unplowed farmland" to be plowed by farmers before they can plant their crops is a great idea! Following the "preset farmland to be plowed" idea I suggest that it not be a skill as there would be no real point...Having the farmers have to have a plow in their hand and have to plow the land before they can plant could be just a necessity like in baking where you mix water with the flour to make dough before you can bake an item. OR plowing could be part of the overall "peasantry" skill and plowing would contribute to the increase of skill in peasantry as does planting the actual crops. Going from that at first farmers would not even be able to plant as they would have to practice plowing a couple times before they could have "farmland".... Just my thoughts.

i dont think this is a very good idea... since you farming already takes 10 to 15 minutes, with this new plow it'll take like half an hour, then no one would bother with farming, there are already so few of us out there, this would just make it even less. But i do think that there should be spots where it is better to farm, aka near water is better then near the desert because the plant has a good source of water.

SET ASIDE FARMLAND IS A BAD IDEA UNLESS YOU HAVE ACRES OF IT! For all you who played Dransik, do you remember what happened? There was never enough room to farm. You would have to travel all the way to another town just to farm
this got quite annoying. If there was some way to eliminate this, it would be a good idea.
@elaralith If it takes too long to farm, there will not be enough time to roleplay or to harvest your crops. what about people like me who only can play a set amount of time, like one hour
Their crops will take several hours to grow and they will have to leave before they can get them

The time scale in rpgs has to be different from what we are used to.
Everything has to run faster or no one would get anything done.
Some of us (like me) have to work, have a family to spend time with, plus I'm working on starting my own business. So I only have maybe 2-3 hours a week. Take mining for instance, the second you click the shovel and click the ground you get the ore. Usually it would take a long time to dig and find ore. We understand this but it is sped up in order to make the game playable.
I'm getting out of here before Paul's avatar brings death to my crops.

@Kringin Tedious? You should never find illarion tedious if you play as you should play. You are supposed to try out skills a little day by day and you should only be a master at a skill at a very old age. If you powergame, which is not allowed, then you will find everything tedious. When you play illarion you should not continually work at a skill and find it tedious. When you feel something is tedious that is a warning for you to stop because you are approaching powergaming.
P.S. Please refrain from posting such posts that are just about letting everyone know that "you have left the thread". Such posts are unhelpful to the discussion at hand and clog up the threads!

I had left the thread and now i have returned.
Elaralith what are you talking about
Is it really tedious when you powergame
I do not know, do you
; you may know. Stop assuming what you do not know. It really annoys me when people assume when they have no idea what is realy going on. Besides I had never said that Illarion was tedious, you are wrong again
, I had said that what you are proposing is tedious. You seem to speak as if you are one of the Gms or something (I really dont like that). Uhh just becuase I say I have left the thread, it is not going to clog up; it informs te people not to reply to my posts anymore. You have so many proposals, what about those
arent those clogging up the forums
hmm..
.

i do not know if this has been said or not but the plowing is a good idea and i reackon you change the ground to farmland and when you pick up your cabbage or when you cut doen grain it turns back to normal ground that way you can farm anywhere but but then like i said it goes back to normal so anyone can go there then
@Kringin Stop acting the fool if you can help it...and do away with those annoying emoticons you paste over all your posts. It blinds people and makes it hard for people to read. Anyways, you were saying that it would be really tedious for people to have to do another thing. My reply I repeat is that it would not be tedious if you did not repeat it constantly, and play the game as you are supposed to. If what you mean by "I speak like the GMs" is that I use proper grammar and post significant helpful posts then you are correct, and you should try to learn from that. I really don't care if you like it or not I am afraid. You do not and should not need to "inform everyone that you are leaving the thread" because first of all noone cares, and second of all it makes annoying spam that distracts people from reading what actually matters. I have many proposals that are helpful to the situation. Useful posts don't clog they benefit. Posts like yours where you say "I am officially left this thread" are of no use at all to the discussion and can be defined as clogging. I do not assume. And something you could do to allow people to actually have a good for once is to take some care when you post!

Powergaming IS tedious, you do the same little action over and over and over. Now that's tedious. I think the system for farming is fine as it is, perhaps ploughing an area of grassland before you plant the seeds should make your crops grow better (i.e. you get more of it when you harvest). I don't think the time crops take to grow should be lengthened as there are some people who only have a couple of hours play.If you powergame, which is not allowed, then you will find everything tedious.
And people please stop attacking each other if one of you stops then there wont be an argument anymore. It is clear everyone's opinions are very different but there is no point in ruining a proposal with it.
