Inactive mage teachers / Inaktive Magierlehrer

Post by Damien »

Many mage teachers have gone very inactive, resulting in their apprentice-PO's getting frustrated as well as PO's of possible new apprentices (even if good roleplayers) not getting a chance for learning magic.
A reason for that were the server crashes (one had to walk the long way to the academy several times to get there, hoping that the server does not crash on the way). This problem has been solved.

Teaching mage apprentices has the following responsiblilities :
- to TEACH the apprentices, do not frustrate them with complete inactivity
- NOT to give runes to players who cannot RP mages or who would use spells in an unfair or game-irresponsible way (like, hiding portals to seas of flame spells in building entrances)

The most mage teachers did not fulfill duty 1.

Because of that, mage teachers now have the following DUTY :
Teachers must teach at least 4 runes per month (maximally two runes per apprentice per week) or their teaching rune and possible other teacher privileges will be removed.
If a mage teacher has only one apprentice, he must teach at least 2 runes/month instead of 4.
Mage teachers who do not fulfill duty 2, will also have their teaching abilities removed.
Mage teachers can report themselves as inactive (and must give an end of the inactivity phase).
Mage teachers can report students who do not RP their characters, often use their runes in a unfair way or use them contrary to illarion rules.

------------------------------------------------------------

Ah, so now we have set up quotas for the system.

Image

Perfect.

Will the stakhanovites.. err.. those teachers, who regularly reach or exceed their quotas receive additional rewards? Hero of the Magicalist Labor, anyone? :P
I love this whole "If they do not do it willingly, we'll make them do it" mentality here.

Marvellous.

This sounds reasonable to me and I would not mind doing this if I was a teacher. Some may elect not to be teachers also, this does give a choice.

This is rediculous, and I don't even have a teaching character.

What kind of retarded rule is this? Get IG for long periods and play your character or we will penalize it so that when you do want to play you can't roleplay as you want.

This is utter crap and shouldn't be enforced.

This is perfect, because there is no sence in giving charakters BHONA and when they finally have their three students, who are happy like hell, they quit or only teach them once in two months or so. I don't know if you got the problem, but everyone that is a teacher or had one will know it.

I've had the problem of not being able to find a mage teacher, and believe me, I know it's frustrating.

But the answer isn't in punishing teachers who dont have time to play.

This really is a rediculous solution to something that can be solved in far simpler ways. For instance Keikan's NPC teacher is an example of a good solution to the problem.

The teacher apprentice system is archaic and has been proven to be ineffective time and time again. Punishing players who are unable to meet a minimum time/teaching quota because of a poor system is both unfair and unintelligent.

No way should you ever punish people for not playing. Ever.

Its a game. people should not be forced to enter and play if they dont wish too.

If your going to use the Teacher only system to learn magic. Let it be on the GM's shoulders

A npc teacher is more or less useless, because it teaches absolutly no rp, everyone can swing a sword, but to use magic you simply need to rp it, noone wants these iceboltthrowing powergamingnoobs back, that just pull down the standarts of the Mages, but this decission is the only thing you can do against lazy teachers, how many did we have at the first start: Athian, Sam, Duchan, Silas, Marius, Dji maybe more, who is still a Teacher from the "old generation", thats only Duchan and Silas, thats not even 50% and then we got maybe three more people who can teach now, unless I'm mistaken, thats just not enough with so many people who actually want to be Mages/Warlocks.

If you are going to play a teacher, noone is forcing you to get BHONA, then you should keep on playing, if a certain system is build upon your Char and only 4 runes a month isn't even that much, you normaly 3 apprentices, that means you just need to log in once, do an hour rp and give them two runes and then log out again, noone said that you need to play six hours every day, everyone should be able to play atleast one hour or something.

If you wish to be a mage, it should be require a special application, the same system as the special races.

The reason you lose teachers is they get swamped by '' want-to-be '' students and can no longer continue with thier own roleplay. And if they do continue with thier own roleplay these days they will get penalised by the GMS.

Thats whats written in this topic at any rate.

Hi Pell btw

Actually, the imo active teachers are Damien (which can't teach due to ig-issues), Sideon and Duchan from the old and William, Taeryon and Nalcaryos from the new generation.

Yes please. Applications for following classes:
Magicians
Druids
Priests
and Paladins.

And for every race not human.

I think its easier to enable the main application to get the account. And it will have the same effect. Zero Playergame. Do not over do this.

The Idea of make special "classes" binded to applications is crap in my opinion. Why? Because thats against the main concept of everything in Illarion. And everything that bases not on the engine but on players does not work really long in Illarion. The past showed that.

A new magic system won't base on playerteachers only for sure.

I support this idea, I've watched other players who've not been able to get a teacher - we either need teachers to be more active, or replace those that aren't being active.

The old runeguards had one big advantage that made them working. They didn't require "player teachers"

THEN WE WILL FIGHT IN THE SHADE!

I liked the idea of the npc mage teaching anyway as soon as it was mentioned.
