Juniper should pruchse a brand new, bad ass server......then give it to the Illarion staff.

I would do so myself, but I'm still building that spaceship and all.

Yeah, I would miss many of the german people too. But how come the Devs are so unwilling to allow others to help?

Illarion is rapidly losing the race to be one of the best muds out there. Even Tibia, as I mentioned with it's crappy graphics and all, only has one server, but it can handle 1000+ players. Despite all the effort the Devs have put in so far, there is so much yet to be done.

I have to admit, I have been looking at other muds during these crashes, and there are some pretty good ones out there. Illarion has so much potential. I'm afraid soon, someone will create (or has created) a Mud as good as Illarion, but can handle more people. What will we do then?

This server just has to be fixed.

EDIT: I'd donate toward one, however, according to the posts about it, It's not the hardware......it's the software.

Edit edit: Oops, I was wrong. Tibia has several servers now and about 38000 players.

Could we get a few in the GMT -5,-6,-7 or -8 timezone please? I'm sure there are some here qualified for the job.

It would help spread out the people available to help fix freezes and crashes.

Another idea may be to start another server, and host an Illarion "English" only version and the old server could host the "German" only version.

I think Illarion needs to expand a little.

How does games like Tibia, with poorer graphics and limited character classes draw so many people? I don't understand it.

I think I am considered a dev at the time, and I am GMT - 5, but I think that only the high-end Lua Scripters, and the C++ Programmers get access to the server. So, I guess, untill then, we shall wait untill the bugs sort out? It shouldn't take that long, and we will be free of freezes.

As I said in the 'server status' thread, it looks like we late night players should have a stopgap measure in the next day or two, so hopefully tonight will be the last 'all down' night.

But yes, the problem is not the *hardware*... you could donate a brand new, absolute top-of-the-line server computer and it wouldn't change anything. It's bugs in the software. Remember this software interface was completely rewritten *from scratch* and only brought online what, four days ago? I have been told that each time the server has crashed, it has been from a new 'kink' in the software, meaning they're fixing the problems as soon as they come up.

To whoever suggested taking the server down until it's all fixed: How would that work? It's people doing things the software doesn't like/expect that causes the problem; therefore, if people aren't doing things, it won't have a problem, and will appear to work fine.

Until all these little problems are found, we are simply going to have to deal with the crashes. Yes, it stinks... but that's what happens when you are playing what is, in effect, only an open beta-stage game. Yes, it interferes with RP to be interrupted every couple of hours. But within a day or two, hopefully it won't last more than a few minutes at a time, no matter what time of day it is.

Until then, grit your teeth, smile, and try to remember that the crashes now are part of a monumental effort by the developers to end up with a much more stable platform. It will just take a little while of patience on our part so they can find all the bugs.

However, it doesn't interfere with RP every couple of hours in our time zone, it interferes with RP all the time. Which is the problem. Like you, I hope it gets fixed soon.

They are trying their best, that is all I can say. And if we take the server down to fix the problems they will still miss some. It is easier to leave the game running and have the players find the breaks in the code for them. I hope it gets fixed soon for everyones benifits.

Though I am wondering if this is actually a consperisy to get rid of all American players.

I understand your point 100%, Achae, and sympathize completely. This is my big RP time, too. Hopefully by tomorrow, if all goes as planned, we will only have to deal with a few minutes of crash at a time, too.
