Unable to launch Illarion Client

Post by Kirby »

I'm a newb, and I have a problem.

The error message:
Java Web Start: Unexpected Error
Unable to launch Illarion Client

When I click details, is states:
Unexpected exception: java.lang.NullPointerException

When I click on it the first time (after restart) it takes a while for the error message to pop up. After the first attempt, the error message pops up much faster.

I do have an account but do not have an activated character yet (pending).

I downloaded a "java run time enviornment client" (off the download page). I'm not sure which one, though.

If by main page, you mean clicking on the big button "Play Game", I've tried that. Nothing still.

Start > Control Panel
Up at the top, look for 'switch to classic view' and click it.

When it's done switching look for 'Java' and click it.
Something should pop up. Stay on where it is and look down to 'Temporary Internet Files' and click on settings.

At the top, right corner look at 'View Applications' and click it.
When in it, right click on 'Illarion' and select 'Remove.'

Then just restart Illarion.

Maybe you have an outdated version of Java? Try getting a new one, I dunno.

The exception looks like some file was missing from your client install.

Try the following:

1. On the command line type "javaws" or find javaws.exe on your machine and start it
2. Select "Illarion Client", right-click and remove it

3. Reinstall from the web.

Ah - I had though everyone forgot about me. This is nice, replies to what seemed like an ancient post.

I'll try some of this stuff.

Thanks for not just letting me go.

-~^~-~^~-~^~-~^~-~^~-~^~-
EDIT:

Java.Lang.NULLPOINTER exception means that Java cannot read something very specific in the file ... or so I think. I've seen this problem being solved by patching the client (not Illarion) with files that could have been scrambled and lost in file pathing.

The suggestions didn't work.
(I have the newest Java)
(I have tried weblaunch, start > run javaws, offline install, and all sorts of installing/reinstalling)

*Sigh* Oh well.

Illarion seems so far away ...

Got exactly the same problem (the only difference: some words are in german  )!! And not any of the suggestions helped to solve it!!!

Does anybody else know something about it that could help?

The error message text in german is nearly the same as in english (like "Kirby" described it in his posts):

Deutsche Fehlermeldung:

Java Web Start - Unerwarteter Fehler

Allgmein:
Beim Starten/Ausführen der Anwendung ist ein Fehler aufgetreten.

Titel: Illarion Client
Hersteller: Illarion.org
Kategorie: Unerwarteter Fehler

Unerwartete Ausnahme: java.lang.NullPointerException[/b]

Well being an asshole won't get you far either. (Non-Sarcastic sentence, located to the left.)

Kirby has a point. 5 or 6 months with no solution seems like abandoned to me. Sorry Kirby, but I can do no help. It's only really Nop that can really help you.
