Suggestion: Unrotting Chest

Post by Llama »

This is a suggestion which I have been wanting to make for a while.

Basically its a chest, open to everyone; which allows you to place items inside, which will never rot away.

Its uses are many:

1) A community chest, where everyone can place his items
2) A (locked) guild chest, where items are stored for the guild's usage

ect.......

I think this basically possible to disable rotting in chests. The problem is, that every server restart would wipe those items.

Well, if every chest would make a "back up" of its content every... 45 minutes so a possible reset wouldn't be that harsh, maybe that'd work.

But that's my idea without knowing much about what kind of scripts would be needed to have a backup system for every individual communual chest around, and how much stress that'd put on the server and such.

if NPCs have an individual inventory, like player-chars, it should be possible, to make a NPC as town-purser.

everybody could "sell" to him, (without getting paid)
and just persons/chars, who know his "password" could "buy" from him (without being charged)

or, the "town-purser" gives out tax-certificates for money recieved.

Thubert's idea would be good for the community chest, a chest where everyone shoves stuff in, since no-one will miss it if a small item goes missing.

However, if its a guild chest, full of building materials, and coins; then the backup would have to be done every time there is a change.

I like the idea, but indeed a backup would have to be made every so much time.
