Some datas about the fighting system.
I was near the grey rose castle, I was wearing a New Lor-Angur armor, the rest were average or crappy metal parts, and holding a bastatd sword. I found a wolf, since there is no parry with 2 handed weapons (yes NONE, I didnt parry the wolf once), I kinda lost. I had to drink one potion, and the wolf broke my leggins, my New Lor-Angur became slightly scraped, and all the rest of my armor got nearly destroyed. Alright, Arameh is a knight, one of the strongest fighter around, and he gets pwned by a wolf, I say...poor noobs. Most two handed should be hard to parry with, but not impossible, and not every two handed weapons the same...Its easier to parry with a staff than a 2-handed sword in RL, no?
Edit : By the way, there are around 50 mummys down the mummy cave in a room, if you go down they block the stairs and crawl at you, I barely succeded to escape that hell alive.

It would be nice if he was more direct... like we are, so that we can get on the same page without having to run around in tight circles while trying to jam our thumbs up each other's asses. Frankly, if Martin wants to get mad because we are trying to figure out the reasoning behind what has come to pass, then I really couldn't care less. Get mad. It changes nothing and it really does nothing to make any more sense of an already vaguely explained situation.
Its all there, black and white, clear as crystal. Just read through the "fighting system" thread.

What exactly has been changed at parry, if I am allowed to ask?
Shields/Weapons nearly had no influence on parrying, meaning that you parried much too much when you had no equipment at all (now you won't parry anything without a shield or a weapon).
That also means that monsters not using shields or weapons won't parry any longer, making them easier to kill.
However, that also means that those using a shield and a weapon will eventually parry more than before.

I don't think that explaining things over and over again will be of any value.Gort Greegog wrote:Martin, I realize you were uhh.. PO'd. Please explain why the lack of parry is so. I explained it once, I explained it twice. That's enough. You didn't understand it, I am sorry for you but I can't help you. You not understanding written texts is none of my problems.

In my eyes yes. Have you ever tried to block a blow from a battle staff with a very heavy two handed sword? Which one is faster? I can block a blow with two sides of the battle staff. And you have a short lever on both sides. On the two handed sword you have a longer lever (the whole blade) and so its, with a bit physically understanding, easy to see that you are faster with a battle staff, than with a two handed sword.Arameh_ wrote:Most two handed should be hard to parry with, but not impossible, and not every two handed weapons the same...Its easier to parry with a staff than a 2-handed sword in RL, no?
The other side is, that your battle staff can only block a few hits before it breaks under the brunt of the two handed sword.

Ever fought with a two handed sword against one handed blades ?
OF COURSE - everyone NOT knowing how to fight with a two handed sword, will surely find it less easy to block with it.
As soon as you know a few tricks, like for example how to move a two handed sword between you and the enemy in the "correct" way, you will easily find out that blocking blades is MUCH easier with a two hander than with a single handed blade. IF you know the right trick.
The mean thing of at least one of those ways to do that, which is a block that covers your WHOLE side due to the length of the weapon, is also a very good starting position for a very mean swinging counter-attack which you can aim at the whole other side of your opponents body, meaning its quite variable AND comes as a very quick answer to the attack - usually befoe the other one can hack again. The end position of the swinging movement is either another block if you like - the type of the block depending if you have aimed high or low - or another swinging attack. If well done, your feet and body will be in a position allowing all of those.
But again - you need to know what you're doing. Some people found this move a bit complicated, i had enough practice to adapt and use it easily when we learned it. Since then, i definitely prefer bastard or two handed weapons against simple longswords or one handed weapons, even against shields if the shield user doesnt really know well what he's doing. and moving a heavy shield with enough cover to block a two handed sword attack, tires the shield wearer kinda quickly...

The argument of "how to know the weapon" don't fits here. I see it from the side. Two opponents, both strong as the other, both know theire own wapons as good as the other. Surely if you know how to handle the pro's of your weapons and the other not its more easy for you. But with a good short sword, and you know how to handle it you have it more easy to hit the other. Than he has it by you. You can also say. If I am strong enough than i can push away his try to block. What is also right. But i see it from the view of two warriors from the same knowledge and power.
