I don't think that it is good to do so. Playerkilling should be forbidden but not disabled. In my opinion there could be guards who watch a specific area and everyone who attacks another player or kills him would be arrested by the guards and brought to prison. This would be better than a no-killing-area.
Another thing is that PKs could use such an area for their advantage. They kill somebody and return to that area for not being punished.
No, it doesn't work.
This idea has been brought up before.
In a roleplaying world, there are too many factors to consider when trying to justify attacking someone and computer NPC guards don't have the ability to decide whether an attack was justified or not.
let me tell you something:
"protection zones" won't help. believe me, i know several games where they did that, and most of the time new problems arose.
guards won't help as well, you have that in UO, just have a look at it...
thankyou Juliana,
thats all on this topic. im just happy you can get it back.
in real life, when i get beaten up, it takes me a week to heal my bruses.
Astral, what I mentioned was, that we are walking on dangerous path, if everyone who kills someone is accused to be a "pk". That gives the unneccecary picture that the killer would have broken rules somehow, even if he wouldn't have done that.
If a "good" RP murderer/person who has got a acceptable reason for his doings is confused with a reskiller-rulebreaker what good could come from that?

And that'S the point. If you murder someone without any reasons you'll be called a PK. But if you have a good story background you'll be called "only" a murderer. PKs break the rules of Illarion but to murder somebody is allowed.
You can kill someone for getting his goods maybe!
You have never heard of people hiding in the shadow and waiting for helpless people!?
But it needs good RP! something like:
"A young female elf walks down the streets of Trolls' Bane. Suddenly there is a man jumping out of the shadow, grabbing her harms and holding a knife infront of her throat. "Give me all your money or die". The elf shutters and gives him everything she has got. The man throws her down to the ground and disappears in the shadow"
That's one part which needs good RP. But there is another way:
"A young female elf walks down the streets of Trolls' Bane. Suddenly there is a man jumping out of the shadow, grabbing her arms and holding a knife infront of her throat. "Give me all your money or die". The elf tries to flee and shouts for help. With a short cut the man kills the elf and takes all her goods. He disapperas in the shadow."
This is the solution with, I think good rp. ok, I think I totally failed by that, what I wanted to say..
Thanks for your example, Wegdrodel.
But there's a little problem. You can't get the goods of anyone by killing him/her.
But your example shows what I mean. You need within a good story for killing someone.
The problem with protection zones, justice fields, or whatever you want to call them is that it works both ways, sure you are protected from murder, but if someone murders you, many times and provokes you enough to want to kill them back, then they run to this area, its not fair on you because you cant!
@Chyan:
I think you can first knock people out and rob their things, aftzer that you will have the choice of killing them, that's what I have heard, but I can tell nothing for sure.
@Khanor:
If someone kills you again and again, write down the date, the time and the number/name and write an e-mail to Bror. He will surely get punished/warned.
We shouldn't need spots where player killing is disabled as playerkilling shouldn't be anywhere in the first place. And if we did add safe zones people would quickly star to abuse e.i what was mentioned above. somebody steals or kills somebody then ones to the safe zone and they can't be touched.
