Grain Problem

Post by Llama »

Grain isbecoming a problem.

1) SUppliers have limited stocks
2) It is expensive
3) There is a small chance of sucess for the beginner
4) You can't get grain except for 1

-
So my suggestion is either:

1) Give suppliers more common stocks {not you get X every 5 days; someone comes along, buys X and the rest stay with nothing}

2) Drop the price, seriously.. n00b farmers can't afford 3/4 coins for each grain

3) Increase the chance.. please again.. i had 11 grain, I planted them.. only 2 were planted ... i harvested it , and got a grand total of 3... so therefore... i lost too much.. its not worth it

4) If devs could invent something...? Stealing ?

Thank you

Sorry, but that a newbie of a profession has a lost is a normal thing in Illarion. It is a good reason to search for help of masters. And there are more functions to gain farmerskills than to waste 'expensive' grain.

(1)
A general NPC-topic. A new change/update of NPCs comes sooner or later.

(2)
NPCs have to be expensive. Look for an other (player controled) farmer/master. Some of them would throw with bundles of grain for only a single coin.

(3)
See above. With more experience you get your benefit. It is the general 'luck' of a newbie. The profession is equal, has nothing to do with grain.

(4)
Not true or i misunderstood this point.

4) I meant you can't get grain unless you already have grain... I was suggesting stealing grain from NPC farmers (sneak into their field and cut) or something...

WIth other raw materials, you can get them easily... (example you dont lose anything to get coal or wood)

I don't think a new farmer is really intended to start farming with grain. It's without doubt the hardest crop to farm, although probably the most valuable.

My farming character started out using carrots, which require fewer steps (no threshing with a flail), and seem to be easier to plant.

The easiest way to incrase peasantry is seaching for honey. you dont loose anything and you dont need money...

Perhaps instead of pissing and moaning to GMs about what you think they need to do, you should contact someone who knows what they're doing like (oh no!) DUN DUN DUN... the Farmer's Union. But I could be asking a little much, huh.

COuld we just have a greater probability for using the flail please?

I only got 4 grain from 13 tries. /

Could you just increase it a bit? At least give the n00b farmers using grain a chance.

As was said before, grain is not the newbie plant. Use carrots or get honey or something, then try grain when you get more skill.

And bake carrot bread?

Isn't extracting honey repeatadly powergaming? And i thought you didn't get any skill for that...

Ok i'll take your advice... as soon as a GM answers the above question

Hadrian, we were told by the GMs that we cannot powergame. As in they think that the cap works.

You were asking about farming, not baking. Once you are good enough to grow grain effeciently you could grow it. A halfling in Greenbriar buys carrots (at least he's supposed to but is bugged), sell your bloody carrots and buy grain! Theres no tollbooth to greenbriar, and I beleive you'd have to go there to buy carrot seeds anyway.

There are other places you can buy seeds. *cough*Farmer'sUnion*cough* But Grobby is right. And it has everything to do with noobish farmers expecting to be good right off the bat. When yer a 'raw recruit' fighter you can't just go up against a demon and win, can you? Farming isn't as dangerous but if you don't go about it the right way you can lose a lot of copper. If you're having trouble with grain then try cabbages and carrots and work your way up to grain. :]

There are ways to powergame, sure you wont reach higher than the skill cap, but still... I think SHIFT+CLICKing for 100 times to get a little honey and some skill qualifies.

As is going down to the mummies with 2 shields to learn parrying (no attack back)

Or having someone throw arrows at you to increase dodge

That's not powergaming, that's: Do something extremely stupid or harmful you would never dare to think of if YOU'd actualy have to do it in rl in order to get skill advancements.
