Proposal: The account system

Post by Llama »

Yes another complain thread. At least this one has a suggestion at the end.

The accoutn system isn't working... I've seen some disgusting breaking of rules lately. Observe case 1:

In 15 mins this guy broke most of the rules.

1) Say lol
2) Feel morally obliged to explain to the people looking mystefied at you what lol means
3) How do you eat?
4) Get stupid answers like "Put things into your mouth and chew"
5) Shout out HOW DO YOU EAT?
6) Whats the command Ingame for eat?
7) Get replies like "what game?"
8) THIS game we're playing
9) Ask someone to teach you how to fight... remember that you are a halfling

-
Ok this clearly shows that the accoutn system has big holes in it, how can a person who hasn't read any of the rules, doesn't know the difference between a halfling and an orc get through it?

I dont want to get this guy into trouble, but.... please.

Oh and 10 mins later 2 characters where thnx ing each other.

-
So the idea is this: !gm is way too strict. Have a ! command which sends a message to a database that the person has broken rule/s blindly. WHen he gets 3 different complaints on 3 different occasions, the person gets banned for a duration depending on how many people complained. Oh and he gets warnings next time he logs on by a Gm. WARNING: l33t speak isn't allowed.. this is warning 1.

This way maybe poeple will bother reading the rules.

Its nothing wrong with the account system, the problem is with the rule reading, there should be a test of rules before making the account not a story.

This has nothing to do with the account system. The account system only says, that our player are able to roleplay.

That do not say, that they act in the right way the whole day and follow our rules and laws.

And i think that all of us have their "bad" days, inspecial in the first time of the first (1000?) logins.

My Proposals:

(1.)
Use the official way to inform the staff about rule breaker (violations@illarion.org)

(2.)
Help newbies to unterstand our laws, to get the right feeling for our game. An ooc-talk (in use of whisper-commands and (())'s) for 1/4 to 1/2 hour can help a lot.

DO you think shoulting out "HOW DO YOU EAT" is Roleplay?

DO you think haflings who want to learn how to fight is roleplay?

It seems you did not read my post.

And yes! We have lots of examples of elves who mine and smith, orcs with culture and halflings with armors and weapons and titles like 'Knight', 'Souvereign' and 'Earl'.

I did read your post

And yes thats why I dont want him banned, he is able to Roleplay.

And i did tell him no l33t speak, AND to keep OOC in OOC brackets.. did he/she/it listen? NO

And the person was not trying to Roleplay a mad person either.

The reason I dont like the violentions is because its a bit too.. harsh... I mean you dont know what the GMS do with it... if there was a standard punishment, you could know what you'r getting him/her into.

What should we do against such persons?

You can ignore them, and inform us. Or kill them. Then they can't shout ;)

There is no "standart punishment", because every case is indiviudual.
With our current crew of GMs, I belive, it will stay this way.
Every case gets looked at indipendantly and the GM will take actions as he/she sees fits.

Players will never be able to enforce rules, or use an automated system to get someone else punished/banished.
Especialy automated systems are way to easy to abuse.

Imagine, I ask 3 of my friends to submit different complains about your character.
Your system will recognice you as multiple-rulebreaker and banish your characters.

Of course, I would be considered as something like a hero by removing your presents from the game, but that would have only been achived by breaking the rules myself. ;)
No good proposal.

My personality rules are:

1. Help them and show them their faults, especially if they are new players.

2. If they don't want to listen contact a gm and they will be observed and hear a few words from us.

3. If they still want to hear a word it's up to us to find a solution, from speaking once again up to a permanent ban.

But I think the first point should be the mainly.

Failed RP has nothing to do with the account system. Only those who show that they are able to play well get the chance to come ingame.

Way to deal with that problem hadrian to not attempt to role-play with some one who doesn’t understand rp yet

We all need to work together on this as players, if you see a new player obviously confused take them aside and explain to them about ooc and whisper.
Take them time to explain the basics and then send them to new player’s forum.
That simple and the reason we need to work together is if i am busy in "important" rp i cannot tell me enemy to wait to kill me while i go speak to X new player. How ever the guy busy making staffs can.

If a new player is way over board !gm if they persist in being a bother warn them IC about death and #me it well and send them away 8)
New players are important to us all and execept for a few people most who stay here learn how to role-play. We need to welcome them gently

Right. We were all like that once. Take the time to teach and help them, and THEN if that doesn't work at least you can say you tried. :/

Definatly! Punishments for new players are the most stupid things one can do. If someone walks up to your char and asks "How do I attack?", give him two answers: One IC ("Draw your sword and strike... but you don't want to attack me, do you?") and one OOC ("Hold CTRL and click on the feets of the character or monster you want to attack.").

Use the !gm commando for everything! Believe me, it is quite unused, >90% of the pages we receive are from other GMs. Send us messages if you think someone needs some help to get started and help him yourself. n00bs are our future, those who remember the good old days know that without n00bs (everything above 3xxxx ;-) ) this game would be deserted.

It's true that 90% of them are other GM's in conversations like:

GM1: Back.
GM2: What's up?
GM1: I just had tacos!!!!!
GM2: I love tacos!
GM3: Oh my god! Like deja vu! I just had tacos also!
GM1: Oh hi, GM3
GM2: I don't know if that constitutes "deja vu"
GM1: Tacos!!!

Don't be afraid to break up the monotony.

We still remember when the gms give us the "we have this new command, but just use it when the world goes under or we will kick your balls" speach ;). so we are very carefully with the command.

That still stands, but the severity of how hard we will kick you in the balls depends on the usefulness of what you write. You may get as little as a love tap to your favorite external organ.

Here's the whole thing... this guy didn't even read the rules.... Could you at least change the whole system to ask at least some of the rules?

-

@Keikan.. i wasn't thinking automated.. I was thinking... 3 and out, but not automatically. The GM reads and then acts.

Ok in the case below, what would be the punishment?

Someone (N00b): lol
Timothy Grassgrower raises an eyebrow.
Timothy Grassgrower: pardon?
Timothy Grassgrower: wnat does that word mean?
Someone (1501827235): lol luagh out loud
Timothy Grassgrower (w): ((no l33t speak!))
Someone (1501827235): no *luaghs*
Timothy Grassgrower: ((#me to mime an action))
-
Someone (N00b): can one of you teach me to fight
Timothy Grassgrower looks at him and laughs.
Timothy Grassgrower: you are joking right?
Someone (N00b): can you teach me how to fight
Timothy Grassgrower: big fierce things...
Someone (N00b): no
Timothy Grassgrower raises an eyebrow.
Timothy Grassgrower: Trust me.. you dont want to fight
Timothy Grassgrower: the tall ones use a sword as big as us
Someone (N00b): i know
Someone (N00b): but
Timothy Grassgrower shivers at the thought.
Timothy Grassgrower points to the man.
Timothy Grassgrower: look at him
Someone (Bystander) nudges him slightly.
Timothy Grassgrower: do you think you could even rach him?
Timothy Grassgrower: reach*
Someone (Bystander) laughs.
Someone (N00b): i need to be safe when traveling to other towns
Someone (Bystander) chuckles.
Timothy Grassgrower points to his legs.
Timothy Grassgrower: if you see something.. run
Timothy Grassgrower: or dive into the bushes
Someone (n00b): hide
Someone (n00b): ohh it dosnt work
-
Someone (n00b): how do you eat
Timothy Grassgrower glances at him.
Someone (Person): chew and swallow
Someone (n00b): big one
Timothy Grassgrower: you really are a strange one
Marie Tolong: you put food up to your mouth
Timothy Grassgrower: put things in your mouth
Someone (n00b): no whats the command in game
Timothy Grassgrower: then chew ... chew...chew
Timothy Grassgrower: you want to play a game?
Someone (n00b): no the command in game
Timothy Grassgrower: oh THAT game...
Timothy Grassgrower pokes him "command!".
Timothy Grassgrower runs.
Someone (n00b): NO
Someone (n00b): the game were playing right now
Timothy Grassgrower: ((OOC: for OOC SPEAK!.. just USE the item))
Timothy Grassgrower: what game?
Timothy Grassgrower looks at him strangly.
Someone (n00b): can you tell me the command in this game to eat a item
Someone (n00b): can you
-
Someone (n00b): i thought you were the other halfling
Timothy Grassgrower: do i really look like him?
Someone (n00b): CAN YOU JUST TELL ME THE COMMAND FOR EAT!
Marie Tolong: stop yelling
Someone (1922030615): ((It's shift click on a good item))

*sigh*

There's no need to paste the whole log. Could you please, in future report violations through the appropriate e-mail address, or through PMing a GM that you see on the boards.

You got the answer here for more than 1 time. There would not be a real punishment for the first time. In general a GM would try to speak with the player, to inform him about the rules, about the structures und commands of the game. Maybe a warn, that is all

It also said here for more than one time, that it would be a great help of the older players themself to teach the new players. So it is also YOUR job.
Someone (1922030615): ((It's shift click on a good item))
That is the best sentence of your log-quote. That is all what the newbie wanted to know.

The other parts of your log are nonsense - that is my opinion. The player needed help. But it is no help to play the own role consequential in this moment. An whispered OOC-Talk was needed.

Lennier's above post is excellent and should be kept in mind by all players when dealing with "newbies." I feel that the content of this post isn't criticising the account system, rather a specific player. Instead of going through the correct channels, Hadrian felt like making a spectacle.
