howabout adding a small web browser to the launcher (unchangable adress)
that goes to an illarion news page that wold fit in the launcher
showing todays info, upcoming events
,planned server downtimes, new bug fixes and whatever you can think of

its just an idea who knows it cold be nice

...Or just add an info window to be updated by the same person as the updater of the webpage. Could be done, but it may mean Nop would have more work for a fairly minor feature.

You mean just like Anarchy Online? Hmm, I like this, even though it is much work with almost no benefit. Including a browser into the client seems to be quite some work, but how about adding a "possibility" to visit the website using the client... *thinks*

Actually, including an HTML page into the java client is fairly easy. I'm just not convinced about the benefit. As long as nobody steps forward and volunteers to update this page at least once a week, it is definitely useless.

And don't you know the 13th commandment: "Thou shall not use IE!"

i only know html as a hobby, im no expert so i dont know

and hadrian ... you will just have to edit a webpage all the time

Some would need to continually rewrite a web page to contain current and helpful information. If it only tells you that Illarion is a great game or informs you about last April's events, it's not worth the work of putting it in, it is also very annoying for the user who is presented with the useless, obsolete page everytime he wants to play.

If you want to have a newsletter, you need at least one responsible editor.

And the web page needs to be simple HTML. No php, JavaScript, ActiveX, Applets, Animations or any other fancy stuff. Which is not required for providing information anyway.

Java has native support for HTML, we won't need any external browser.

You need a simple HTML Editor to do the job. There are plenty of freeware editors. Most large commercial products produce abominable HTML that is 90% superfluous and will likely not render properly in a Java window.

I could help with that, if necessary. Basic HTML is easy, to say the least.

And, on another note. I do use Firefox, but just not for the forums, because somehow, it tends to suck with them, in my opinion. Mister Kevin.

Well, here's my suggestion: We can start fairly easy with a news page and a button "News" in the Login Dialog that just starts your browser with the proper URL. If the news work out, they will be incorporated int the final version of the new client.

So you just need to get the news going.

PS: I use Firefox with the forums all the time. Works perfectly.

It does, only I cannot select my text anymore and make it bold, because it will make the tag come behind the text, which is fairly annoying for me. =P I am a perfectionist, and will do something more comfortably in my eyes, if it is possible.

And about getting the news going..You mean right now? Or?

I really don't like this idea, but perhaps I just don't understand it. The idea of a browser on the screen doesn't exactly make me feel like I'm in some magical roleplay land. Maybe instead we could make more use of the "news" page thats already attatched to the forums so that the browser included into the forums isn't necessary (although I don't see how necessary it is even without the more updated news page...). Am I understanding the proposal correctly?
