I loged out half way through the quest, due to rl manners, but i enjoyed the way it was going, however i remeber certain people yelling sarcistic comments while me sian dom and a few others where pray, then their char found no fear in yelling more comments when A SPIRT APPEAR ON THE ALTER.. wow that character must of had some guts to be a hobbit.
I enjoyed the first maze it was very calm becuase it seem that only people who actually cared about the story where in it, the second plane over ever was choas, becuase it seemed to be nothing but a bunch of people trying to get through so they could get on to the next plane s they could get to the items!
All in all great quest! with bad moments

Nothing bad with them1/3 sit back and make sarcastic remarks the entire time

And the few players that didn't follow a strange spirit like sheeps, had fun otherwise

I participated in the quest sporadically though, and it was great. haha, especially the demon that has slain me twice

Here, here to Garrett's comment. Is there... a summary we can get or something, since it seemed to be a particularly epic quest? I am woed to say that 6 hours of job work "conveniently" ate up any of my opportunities to participate in the quest today
.
As another question, did you even finish the quest at all, with all of the server crash posts I see

The quest was really awesome. Many thanks to the GM's who took the time to put it togther. A nice balance of questing, fighting and rping. I think any one could have taken part in an enjoyed it.
My only fault with it was the maze under the tavern was pretty frustrateing. Just to many people trying to push through those small passages. Then for some reason I couldnt find my character to push him through parts. That is my stupidity and not really a gm issue though
.
The room of fire was fantastic, The altar a nice touch. The highlight for me was watching people argue over that axe oh and the demon appearing outside the tavern.
I wonder did the gm's plan to spawn it there ? Or was it to put a boot up the drunkards in the taverns ass's as we all sat around and complained about heros.
The four of us did get a pretty epic battle in with that demon before ark arrived with the axe.
All in all a fantastic quest which I was really glad to play a part and run interference in
.
many thanks to all who gave there time to make it happen

I was in it from start to finish. I also enjoyed it thoroughly. I did not like the tons of people all around, crowding and yabbering non stop.
I did not want to pay that money, because Ark would not have, unless she knew she was getting something worthwhile out of it. Not my ways, but Ark's. She is greedy. I only payed them up at the end because I noticed the quest had stalled and I just sorta nudged Ark's nice-ness meter a little. Besides, she did get more out of it at the end
The first maze was awesome. 7 people who cared trudging through the forest. Second maze was hectic, soooooo many people, and the flames were making me a little sick. The finale was rediculous. It was just poof, over...then someone randomly grabs all the things off the ground that were dropped and everyone wants to go dink. I am actually glad I had to leave at that point.
All in all, I thank the gm's for that Quest. Very well done.
Players, you suck....except for those who cared.

It was continued. To summarize it would be difficult.
I'd say there were more less four stages to it all. Honestly I have no clue what really happened, and I didn't really see any mysteries come solved, only new ones floating in the air (the Astral Eye, mostly).
The first consisted of a quake and undead in the caves beneath the tavern. Beyond an impossibly difficult to squeeze-through bottleneck of movement, a train of people tried to go through--stuck in it like tourists in a popular attraction. Getting there, I could stand it a few minutes, some books dropped from the altars there, some people took them. Turned out later the books were a manual to construct some sacred (?) axe. Then I tried to escape the cave as quickly as possible (OOC, not just IC).
The second stage was more interesting, people were gathered around an altar that had appeared in town (?), and an elf was gathering people around, calling for the defenders of faith, so a bunch of novices and priests gathered about, channelling their powers and some other mumbo-jumbo and we summoned/met the Spirit of Earth. Spirit of Earth took us to the elemental plane of earth, which was for us, a rather large forest labyrinth, overgrown with trees so you couldn't see a darned thing, and truly had to "rely on faith", as the Spirit of Earth had told us. At the end of the maze, was a sacred grove, a tree (manifestation of divine) gave "pure earth" to those that reached it. The spirit returned us to town.
The scene repeated itself more or less in stage three. Except that it led us to the plane of fire. It was a rock maze, but it was completely on fire. This is where we entered crash heaven. When I was able to log in again, the server had reset somewhat for me, and some of the fire that the mages had cleared out earlier had all "grown back" thanks to the reset. Someone came with a few hundred potions though this time, and some people just hiked through the fire maze and back, bringing "pure flame" back with them from another sacred grove. Zappety-bang, back to Troll's Bane.
Stage four. Maybe you could say stage four consisted of two parts, honestly I got a bit fed up with the main part and the other part of it came to us, more or less, and that was one of the better parts because we got some roleplaying into the mayhem.
The pure earth was used to plant a blue tree next to the shop from which sacred twigs could be picked to be used by grafting merinium blades (forged with the eternal fire/the instructions were in the tomes from the lost crypt beneath the tavern) to them, creating a weapon (as the Spirits had told us) to defeat the darkness that sought the Astral Eye. So in short, a madness ensued involving the gathering of merinium ingots followed. That's when Pendar, Bailey, Domitrio, and I took escape and fled to the tavern to hit the booze. Amidst the drinking though, when Pendar and Dom went out for a duel, the earth tremble again, and a demon appears outside the tavern with a burning pentagram and flames. He kicked our asses, and wanted us to kill the bearers of the merinium-blades to him and bring their sacred weapons to him. We simply refused, but despite inquiring, Mr. demon never told us what he'd do if we actually did what he tols us. And we got our asses royally kicked until Ark and Athian finally showed up after half an eternity with the merinium-blades to dice him up.
What was great about the RP was how he tried to fend him off, how we had joked in the tavern that trouble would come to us, and the RP that followed, in which we RPed miserable wrecks being stitched together in the tavern and bombing our heads with booze.
So that more or less concluded my point of view on the quest.

I enjoyed the drought quest better. Even though it really sucked at some points ((example being that we had no resources for like a couple weeks)) the long drawn out ness was great. At that point you did not have 30 people on one screen hovering over a cloud, all yelling something. You should do more quests like that.
The quest was... great. On most accounts. Personally, I think the cave was made well. It took forever to trek, giving the illusion of being dark and... cave-like. It was a little frustrating not being able to get through, but that's life.
The alter showing up, and the call to prayer was a nice RP-touch. It showed who played religious characters, and who just wanted to goof off and mess with people (Not saying people who didn't pray were, some characters just aren't religious. You must be able to agree that some were just there to bother people...). A spirit took those who had faith to the forest maze.
The forest maze was fun. I got some great screens from it. Kudo's for lay out, and for the quest storyline in itself, it was nice.
The fire maze was fun, I liked it. The potions helped, and although a lot of people were there for quest items, or just to get in on it after seeing that the Religious people got something they didn't. It was laggy and made us crash twice, as far as I know, but it was great.
After that, the spirits of the divine showed again. It used Sian and Domitrio's Pure earth from the Tree Spirit to plant a tree that gave twigs ot use as axe handles in a sacred axe. After that it was a rush to see who had the merinium we needed. Answer: Arkadia. The arguement started about who would use it. She made herself one, Domitrio gave his Pure Fire for it, and it was grafted. It looked nice, as well. After argueing a while about who would use it, Domitrio fled to the haven of alcohol.
Supposably, the arguement went on, but the RP at the tavern was nice. From Domitrio trying to chat up Bailey, and failing, to Sian passing out drinks, to the Sabre Match with Pendar. It was fun. Eventually a daemon appeared. We all fought him. (I forgot about the magic reverse thing.. my bad. *ZAP*) and it was nice to see a bad guy who talked and reacted so well to the good guys. My only complaint: When Sian and Domitrio, both with axes ready, said something along the lines of "Okay, make your case, why should we follow you?" He didn't say anything. It's like... he wasn't expecting it. Otherwise it was fun.
The quest ended up with the hurt people in the tavern, being fixed up. Domitrio's arm being broken and pulling shrapnal out of his arm from the mangled plate, and numerous other injuries around the bunch. (While the others who fought healed up in seconds and ran off to ... do whatever)
Though no one else knows.. it ended for me on the Island of Sirani, sitting in the sand, Talking to Sian about religion. It was nice. Good quest.
*Funny quote, taken directly from Log:*
Sian: If you wish to let Elara lead you back to Michelia, you walk the mortal's path.
Novice Domitrio nods.
Sian: If you wish to marry Elara, you walk the path of the deities.
Sian glances back in a side and is smiling.
Novice Domitrio laughs.
Novice Domitrio: But if I bribe Sirani, I can marry them both.

It is a very unique island we live on. There are those amongst us who do not fear death. Then there are those who dont find demon hordes invadeing or spirits appearing at all seriouse.
How ever it is also the diversity and madness of our coinhabitants that are part of this games charm. Generally if i feel it is inane babble and I am actually immersed in something I just let it flow over me. Other times I am the inane babble
Just remember when in doubt you can always enaged in a duel useing your magic axe handle
@ bailey
All good..and all good fun
Brian
Edited to include this.
I actually agree in principle Ark, How ever I suppose there are also players who would say the only pitch up for the quests as that is the only time the game holds there interest.I always get a huge kick out of random events. Standing in town and suddenly the well explodes and I get a rotting corpse at my feet...Thats hard stuff to beat.

I don't agree completely. When I'm normally on lately and there's no scheduled quest or event running, there are only horribly few players online. Pendar has a point, oftenly people come in almost exclusively for such mayhem (and if you compare the amount of people online—4 average, 24 on a quest—it does make a bit sense to me why they'd still schedule events). And I might add, this is something which I find a tad bit sad, since these people are usually great RPers and would be more fun to RP with in general than just on events that can be hugely confusing at the worst.Arkadia Misella wrote:I think the gms should plan these quests....and then wait for a decent amount of people to come online...and then trip the start switch...instead of announcing it and then bam....all these people there taking part in something they really shouldnt be taking part in.
If we actually had about 24 people online at a time, I'd be all for non-scheduled events, but to be honest, lately the gameplay has been slow other than when GMs had been pulling off stunts (my regards to them on that). There were other events this week, some seemingly non-scheduled, and out of thin air. I liked these much better than the epic quest, personally, because there were not dozens of people flocking around in panic—instead they developped a bit more organically. Nevertheless, this one had its charms too (had to love the part that I labelled for myself as Stage Four).

I like feedback about quests, it helps us to improve them. Usually, one shouldn't comment feedback, but this time, I have to do some remarks:
Some things worked not out as planned. The biggest problem were the server crashes, this way, we a) lost quest items b) had no clue who was on the plane of fire before the crash. So, we warped everyone back there, this way, it became that crowded. Sorry for this. There were also some minor mistakes most of you did not recognize (like the books in the dungeon came that late because someone mixed up some numbers or that some people were left on the plane of fire).
But I have to agree that some players actually spoiled some of the fun. The parts in which some brainpower was needed (How to get through the fire maze? How to get a merinium ingot? How to get fast through that narrow passage?) turned out to be chaotic. I just tried it, I needed less then 15 seconds to get through that passage... What I missed were creative ideas. Some players stood around with that "Entertain me!" expression on their character's face.
The main problem was that you just played 4 quests in a row. This quest was ment to take place in 4 stages (Sian found that out, congrats), but time runs out. The wipe will come soon and with it a new map without the questsites that were build.
By the way: I am still anostished why it was not possible for the chars online (except Ark who I exspected to be that last one who donates money to save other ones asses) to bring up one(!) merinium ingot. Those thingies cost 40 gold ingots afaik and you cannot tell me that it is impossible to get that much money in short time. Gold mine, anyone?! Crowding around a spirit and talking gibberish does not solve a quest, actions are needed!
But all in all I have to say it was a nice experience. We learned a lot and drew much inspiration from this quest.

I just have to say this.
I don't really like the types of quests that just end up with everyone all around following a spirit like starving dogs after a piece of raw meat.
Sorry if it sounds harsh but that is just what i see in several quests. And i believe that if i do in fact feel this way i should say it in a way that acuratly portrays the way i feel. Because if i do not say anything how will it ever become better.
That's about all Thanks

My character has zero ingots, and has about 130 gold pieces left in his depot chest. I spent my last money on the other quest buying ropes that were never returned.Estralis Seborian wrote:By the way: I am still anostished why it was not possible for the chars online (except Ark who I exspected to be that last one who donates money to save other ones asses) to bring up one(!) merinium ingot. Such raw amounts of gold and riches of that magnitude, that is not possible to make for newer characters, that is a thing of the older ones, who have maxed out skills and/or almost boundless resources slumbering in their depot chests. (Woohoo for the wipe!

Honestly, I found it a bit frustrating, but at the same time it was neat, it showed it couldn't be done without some of the older characters who are effectively rich. Although I am the one who may have once started the thread to "legalize powergaming"... I am definitely also the one who is too lazy to click the same tile one million times just to make some gold in the game. The older player characters are both greedy as well as filthy rich, compared to the newer player characters; at least this has always been my perspective of these matters. I'd have to jam toothpicks into my eyes and douse myself with a canister of coffee to even attempt in surviving such a feat like getting together 40 ingots, I've never owned more than 9 gold ingots at a single time, and even for that much I almost had to break my back OOC.

Some quotes from the quest yesterday, hehe:
Title: "Dear god, where am I?"
"What the hell is it speaking of?"
"Praise the holy boots"
"What's that?"
"The spirit of coal"
"rawr @ fire"
"The eternal flame"
"On guard"

Title: "Dear god, where am I?"
Bailey Thunnigan (w): oh my.. this island is scary..
Donal Mason (w): Refuge of the mad, I'm afraid
"What the hell is it speaking of?"
Someone (52338): Powerful beings of Darkness roam the island, with a desire for something that is beyond my sight
Bailey Thunnigan (w): Does it means me?
"Praise the holy boots"
Pendar Fayed (w): why they are all standing around boots?
Bailey Thunnigan bursts out laughing.
Bailey Thunnigan (w): no .. there is a spirit...
Donal Mason: Oh great and powerful spirit, please help us cowardly mortals!
Donal Mason laughs sarcastically.
Someone (79779): Did some one throw a shoe at the spirit?
"What's that?"
Someone (47141) touches the altar.
Someone (47141): what is all this?
Bailey Thunnigan: this is called 'alter', m'lord
Donal Mason: An altar..something to do with that spirit everyone is blindly following
Bailey Thunnigan chuckles.
Someone (47141): ...well, i'd know that
Donal Mason holds his arms out in front of him like a zombie.
Bailey Thunnigan laughs about the halfling.
Donal Mason: I am a blind sheep, incapable of my own thought! I follow this spirit I know nothing about!
"The spirit of coal"
Someone (1444): oh look a dirty hole.
Bailey Thunnigan laughs.
Someone (1444): Wasn't it a spirit of Earth ?
Someone (79779): That is coal
#me hops down
Someone (46854): hmm
Someone (46854): scream if something tires to eat you
(damien shows up again)
Someone (1444): It was not a spirit of coal, then.
"rawr @ fire"
Take us, oh spirit of the Fire
We are in your power. Lead on, lord Spirit.
Bailey Thunnigan (w): 'take us, oh spirit of the fire'?!
Bailey Thunnigan smacks her forehead.
Donal Mason (w): That sounds..so wrong.
"The eternal flame"
Donal Mason: They're queuing like sheep to a butcher shop
Bailey Thunnigan: A trembling voice shouts: "Do not kill the eternal fire!"
Bailey Thunnigan: hm..

I'm surprised the GMs stay sane long enough to run a quest like this. Donal saw all these characters running after a magical spirit as idiots. Sheep. Besides, Donal was standing at the BACK being blasphemous. If worst came to worst, he'd have been able to run away before having his body parts strewn across town. Although I wouldn't have been surprised of Donal had been turned into a Goblin
It was mostly other players I was annoyed with, not the quest itself.

Got a couple of screens from the quest, and nonquest ones. Where? The best site ever created:
