Post-Wipe Consequences (Poll)

Post by Moirear Sian »

Option A
You wish to see all of the listed bullets allowed.
  • • (1) continue old characters complete with their storylines enacted in Illarion
    • (2) remake old characters (or just recycle their names) and have them forget their history enacted in Illarion
    • (3) discontinue old characters and start completely new ones.
Option B
You wish to see any one (or more) of the bullets given in Option A being disapproved of by the GMs.
Please detail what you would like to see allowed/disallowed of the bullets in Option A.

Option D
Aristeaus wrote:Option D

Carrying only the characters over which are involved in a indepth story line or matters which you feel you can not leave, or/and create a new char to interact with the new world.

I vote option D

---
Note: Discussions are allowed (and encouraged) on this thread.
  • Vote count: A/0, B/8*, D/1
* Apparently A(2) is the most unwanted/unpopular point so far.
By the way, D is essentially like B, excluding A(2), if I'm not mistaken.

Me too. Actually concerning choice 2 at A. I think that would be annoying and wrong, unless the PO provides a very good reason.

I mean, as Keikan stated there is no reason to have chars being disappearing, there would also be no need for a mass-memory-deletion. (except for the Bloodskulls who didn't want to continue their characters)

Story's just going on with some characters disappearing for some reasons and some characters coming as they always did when someone started.

I remember Misjbar once said skills aren't important. That is the view of many players. So why change anything but the attributes and skills and items? There are ways to RP nothing happened.

The smith can't provide his customers because the miner who provided him with iron and coal disappeared for any reason or is too weak to work.

The mage can't cast spells because there is was a curse that made all mages loose their power and now they have to gain it again.

The fighter can't fight because he got the flu.

I know, that is much for one moment to happen but no reason to drop all characters.

Your poll is biased and unfair, if you feel any of the points in A are bad you have to vote B, therefore if you don't agree with them all, but agree with some you still have to vote B, therefore giving an unfair view to the casual observer.

I would prefer A1 or A2

It is not unfair, nor is it biased, it is simply what I have distilled from the threads that people like you are obviously too lazy to read.

If you choose B, detail what you'd like to extract from A, it's as simple as that. Follow the example of those who posted before you on this thread and post decently. No need to attack my reasoning, Moathia.

well if it's not unfair then you certainly made it uneededly confusing.

either way i don't see why people can't keep there old characters and make new ones. The reason most new characters didn't have much of a chance beforehand was because they were coming to an isle of highly skilled people, and because of this newer characters couldn't do anything more then make a meager living. after the wipe we'll all basically have a chance to start at a more even pace. and since i'm sure they'll be plenty of room. there will be no need for said characters to take over said land because they have no place to live, etc. unless they want to do so. we'll be alot less confined and it won't be confinement that breeds ig hostility. it'll be actually story. so new players have a chance old players can still enjoy the game and everyone can stop griping about this situation.

I think I agree with Athian about the confusing post my chocolate friend, but tho' he confuses me too it is slightly less than the confusion you caused in my brain. Confused? Keep the chars you like and continue your story. If you want to start over then make a new char with a new name. Its as easy as that. And now everyone has equality in the skill department so you won't have to worry about starting and having less of a chance to make it in any field of interest.

Honestly I'm beginning to wonder what is so confusing about it; the three people who posted initially in reply to it seemed to have perfectly understood.

If anybody requires an example of what I meant, this is what I'd post if I'd be counting my own vote on this thread:
  • I vote for Option A, although I might admit that A-2 might lead to unnecessary confusion. Basically though, I go with the consensus of the GMs that this decision should be left open for everybody to make for themselves as to what they do after the wipe.
Isn't that hard now, or is it still completely uncomprehensible?

Option D

Carrying only the characters over which are involved in a indepth story line or matters which you feel you can not leave, or/and create a new char to interact with the new world.

Thats too bad, because all of my character names are coming back with no knowledge of previous events, and possibly new personalities.

I hope any chars I interacted with will be super-confused should they go that "continuing without anything happening" route.

I don't think he's being awkward. I think the people who want to carry on their existing chars are being awkward, lol. Just my way of seeing it. Maybe Returner and I are the only clever people here. All the pr0n must make us super intelligent or something. Which reminds me ...

Yes, Keikan did a nice job of making a response that fits to about 500 posts in one sentence. Or maybe we could just try giving everyone the finger, that works too...

I'd say B with 2 and 3 as well. I think a complete history wipe is neccesary to level the playing field.

I think I have made my feelings clear in a few post's. How ever I will once again. 1&3 both work if you start a new character you affectively have your wipe anyway. So some characters continueing really dont change all that much for you.
I have bounced around on the issue of a complete wipe only ever defending the keeping of characters for the simple reason that some RP was to deep to just tie off. So effectively a history restart was going to leave storys unfinished. I still stand by that and will be playing Pendar after the wipe along with some completely new faces.
Something which has been a concern to me though is that many people in favour of a complete wipe. Seem to see it as a way to "level the playing field".As all of our skills will be equal I see the field as level, the only thing that a history wipe would achieve is making it impossible for players to reap the rewards or consequences of good or bad rp.
The implication that a history is an advantage that should be purged so no one has an upper hand. Is really an unfair position to adopt towards players who have dedicated hours and hours to building themselves, there stories and subsequent station in game.
I think it was dyluck who pointed out that sometimes our characters are a labour of love. As yes creating a character with influence or reputation "good or bad" indeed involves work. Even my simple role in game as a town guard has been full of some of the finest and worst rp ever. I have often had to subject myself to mind numbing rp,pking or sillyness. Simply to remain in character and build my character.
Other truly influential characters, Lennier,Veralion,Aristeuas,John etc. May or may not choose to continue there characters and storys. Regardless let us not forget that it is there great rp,energy and willingness to at times "sacrifice" there rp that makes this game world vibrant and alive.
Indeed it is not a selfless act but non the less to truly be a public figure in Illarion does involve often sacrificeing your prefered rp or current story to be part of others. Yes it is done willingly non the less we owe a lot to players willing to do it.

I'd have to say A1 OR A3, not both (So option B ;)). If we're going to go with a solution, let's make it one solution, not two. Two will confuse people more than they need to be. Either keep the history and characters who wish to do so, or wipe everything. Either way, we're all going to be on the same playing field, its all a matter of how much attachment you have to your character and his/her achievements.
