Laggy Times in illarion server.

Post by Argos »

Greetings. I just played the game, and i know is a Beta Version, I was amazed by the role playing experience, let me congratulate all the creators and responsible people for the project.

Indeed, the server needs more Bandwith, or whatever, i dont know much about stuff like that, but in mi client, everything freezes from time to time, a experience kno :? wed like "LAG", is the server always LAGED, or it sjust me?, can i do something?.

I hate when im talking with somebody, like: "Greetings im Amantha member of the high elven council" and suddenly the screen freezes, and the person who im talkin gtoo, says: "My lady? something ocurred to you?". AND I CANTO ANSWER CUZ I HAVE HEAVY LAG.

Thanks and farewell.

I have the same problem with lagging. But I am not running anything but a weather program and my firewall. Its so irriatating! I can't move but back and forth and even then I have touble moving....Do I need to turn my weather program off? I just want to be able to play for more that two minutes before hitting major lag...

Some more infos could be helpfull to find the reasons.

Tell more about your PC-System, your I-Net connection ... How much players are online, when you have lag? Maybe you can add the date and the time?

Each detail could be helpfull...

 I guess that would help wouldn't it! ^_^;; I'll have to get back on system specs...My dad just upgraded and I am not quite sure what is on this computer now! Though I do know it has a Radeon 9200 vid card...what else do I know...40 GB harddrive....and thats about all I know...^_^;; My net connection is a LAN, errr...there were 15 others on at the time, but even when I was the only person on, it lagged pretty bad. I'm not sure what else you need to know.

It quite often depends on the day. Sunday is notoriously bad (in my opinion) for lag. I generally don't play on a Sunday, as I find there are quite a lot of players and hence quite a lot of lag.

Great...I was trying a few minutes ago and I was the ONLY ONE and I still had lag! I am stuck! I want to move! I can't go left or right...Just back and forth...its really quite annoying, and thanks for the heads up on Sunday, I'm never going to try on Sunday anymore if I can help it... * cries *

It's a funny thing with some graphic cards ... if you got the possibility to try on a PC with another card, so do it.

In Illarion it's not that a really good graphic cards scores best marks in performance tests. On some special system configurations it causes client-side lag.

If you ask if we are working on it ... yes, we are :) currently our developers are working on a complete new client which solves that problem.

But at least, there is still a chance of a network problem. We just know that the server performance is okay so far, cause there are always players who are able to play with nearly no lag, and there are some who can only play with lag.

the question ist, what do you define as LAG. Illarion is no shooter i have the most time a framerate from 7 FPS and its enough for me. But some others would say: boah that is laggy. Because the movement of the chars/monsters etc is not perfect.

I think that most of us define lag as any negative intereference that interrupts the flow of gameplay. With shooters and other such games, the lag interrupts your ability to wipe the floor with your opponent's ass.

With Illarion however, I feel that lag is just as detrimental to the flow of the game. How many of us have been frozen to the spot by the laggy eyed monster, and continue speaking, only to discover that the person we were playing with has wandered away. Even more infuriating is when the server itself boots you for timing out or lagging, and you're left trying to explain why you had vanished via roleplay destroying, ((OOC)).
