Gem cutting

Post by Gro'bul »

For the tools in this age gem cutting needs to be so much harder. I'm not quite sure if you beginning stats effect how good you are at certain skills but my gemcutting skill isn't very good, and I can usually cut 1-5 diamonds. This should be 0-50 with my skill I think. Diamonds are the hardest natural occuring mineral, and we don't have any unnaturally produced minerals or metals, so it is godawful hard to do anything with this. The cleavage of this mineral also makes it very hard to grind because of the sheer chance of breaking the diamond into tiny crystal formations. Rubies need to be the second hardest to grind because they are the second hardest naturally occuring mineral. Blah blah you get the idea.

Can't forget to credit my sources

AS much as I would agree to that...it would only give the older players a major advantage over the new ones, which is already very evident. New players would never even care to try if they could only grind 1 our of every 50 gems they have, and would be even more pissy when they see some older player grinding 9 out of 10 every time they try. gemgridning (if you dont have any skill in it) is pretty hard enough as it is.

sorry, but i cannot agree with ya. i have some skill in cutting gems, but i just can get one or two diamonds out of 12-15rawstones. this isn't much, because ya must be a really good goldsmith to become a ring out of this 1 or two diamonds, and it isn't easy to find 12-13 diamonds for 1-2 gems

Here i have to agree with Galim, at this point we should make differences with RL and the fun of Playing illarion.

How much gem grinder would we have if you are only able to get one diamond from 40 rare gems.

Galim is very right...My character is a darn decent gem grinder, but she cant goldsmith for a flip, which is why she never even tried much at all anymore to make rings. Its too tough almost, lol

I don't goldsmith, however I just don't understand how the skill compares to how easy it is. But making it extremely hard is the idea, only old and very experienced people could cut diamonds and such efficiently. It also would skyrocket these item's worth to a reasonable or real value. This would not be the case for all gems, but rather their toughness would go along with how hard they are to cut. Of course this is rather hard to determine considering the made up gems unless they intentionally correspond to existing ones. Such as bluestone is the same as saphire or smaragd is emerald, just different names.
