Rank and moving from town to town.

Post by Achae Eanstray »

I don't think a character should be limited in the moves they make. That just encourages static towns and possibly even roleplay. I would like to add more freedom to rank and moving from town to town.

If a character moves out of town, even for less then 24 hours they not only lose all rank but the quests upon return aren't restarted. The only quests to earn rank are the dailies.. some of which are very hard to do, another takes a very long time. This means it is very hard to work up to the same rank a character had in the town even if they are willing to. Is there a delay when they move back allowing that character to restart the quests? I haven't seen one so am assuming not but if so, I'll be happy to close this request. I have seen roleplay interrupted due to this problem and would like to make it not impossible for a character to move back to the same town they have in the past moved away from.

1. Give a 24 hour or 48 hour leeway if possible so a character has the option to change their mind and move back.
2. If this isn't possible due to scripting, allow the town's quests to reset when any character moves in and not just a new one.so the character can again work up in rank.
3. Remove rank completely is the third option.

Other ideas are welcome of course.

I actually think the system is fine as is. They way I see it, It should be hard to build up rank the second (or fifth) time around, because you earn rank by doing things to show your loyalty to the town/leader. If you leave, you have betrayed that. When you betray the trust of your ruler, they want to be sure you really mean it this time. Think about it, if you leave and go to another town... then come straight back, you could be working as a spy. No one is going to trust you.

A better option might be taking 24 to 48 hours yourself, and really thinking about whether the move makes sense for your char, or if you are simply making a brash decision that you will regret fairly quickly.

Well, the proposal itself might be okay. But do not forget an important thing about the different towns: the magical gems

If you make it possible to change towns over and over, people will always change just to get the gems they need.

Plus what TiaSarah said. Better take a while to think about it. The realm your char is citizien in does not force you to stay in that town the whole time.

Is it really fair that for the life of that char they can't earn any rank in the town if they do eventually decide to move back? That only gives a char three options to move and three towns. Do we wish the RP to be limited? As far as gems it would be easy to do the dailies and get gems eventually from every town while moving back and forth. I am talking of increased rank in the original town. It would take a very long time to get that rank from dailies, if ever.

Anyway.. perhaps add: After (a certain length of time) the quests can then be reset if the character eventually decides to move back or if someone convinces them to move back (giving the option of someone from the town trying to get them to move back) or the town leader can reset the quests if the character again shows promise however I would be more for a set time....

In my humble opinion we should rethink the whole complex of ranks. Especially gaining rank points almost exclusively thru NPC quests and its impact on gems should be rethought. The team knows my proposal.

But in any case, if one leaves a faction, the rank should be gone.

Someone already told strongest voice against. People would move from town to town just to reach gems of their need. People should earn between citizens reputation as another citizen to look okay. Such easy way can create needles, not much needed conflicts. Perhaps character of 5th or higher could get quickly rank 5th if leaded by gm private quests/tasks but this is abuse the time of gm (actually only one is much active). Maybe investing in concept of simple gms with short ranges of possibities would be more useful at now to even analyze details of idea of the topic.

Note: You can 'buy' all but the highest regular rank with gold. In theory (well, not only theory, people have done this) one can move in to Cadomyr and be a knight on the same day.
Getting the rank just below the highest and working up the last bit with dailies is well feaseable for those moving several times.

What exactly is wrong with that?

Sorry.. I missed that. Where can rank be bought or is this just Cadomyr? And that is fine.. will work for those that wish.

There is an NPC in Galmair's underground that sells ranks. Getting the highest rank in a town within a day completely contradicts the idea behind the rank system, namely that you have to earn your rank in the town and build up a reputation.

Anyway, the current rank system seems rather unsuited for a game which focus should be on interaction between players rather than between a player with npcs. I think we should think about what kind of rank system we really want (if at all), and then try to find suiting solutions to characters changing towns.

Choice of illegal citizenships is directed to all remarks of the three towns. Prize is very high, but the game needs money sinks. Q-wert have reminded this option luckily to this topic. I have forgot of this aspect. I never had need so I never tried.

I agree fully @Jupiter, appreciate your comment. We should support RP versus rank and suitable solutions to change towns sounds great.
