A Lizards ways

The Lizard made his way through the city of Cadomyr.
it flicked its tongue in disgust. The fear of the people was palpable.
Frizza had told him, that the troups had fled from the last battle in defeat.
This was outrageous. The count would never have allowed such a thing to happen.
But things had changed and weak humans were in control, with little faith and even less battlewisdom.

It hissed in disgust and headed out into the desert. Something was nudging him... had been.. for several month now..
unconsciously he groped over the marks on his breast...

First he went out and hunted down a few of those unholy emissaries of Letma. The colours ofhis house would never fail.
But then he had the urge to turn north... where he ambushed a small caravan of dwarfs returning from the desert to their caves.
He got all but one.. who fled and whom he started to hunt down, when again something urged him to let him escape..
Was that mercy...?
Instead he returned to the caravan and made sure all were dead, leaving a gruesome scattering of limbs and heads.

No faith... that was it. Warriors of cadomyr hiding behind walls, relying on arrows ..

His body ached from the heavy skirmish when he had stormed into the middle of the enemys.
When the enemy was driven of, while he was resting he got the feeling those humans were talking of him.
Not that he cared all that much.
That human had insisted to treat them in this strange rooms.
He did not like them, they gave him unpleasant feelings.
Still he allowed her to do what she thought was necessary.
In the end it would be mother that would take care.

After the battle he dozed of. When he woke again he had the urgent desire to go out into the desert and did just that

The lizard was fairly content.
it had been dozing under a tree, when something woke it...
There was this need to walk out and take a look around.

And promptly, just like the day before, when he had tracked down on of those monstrous demon creatures those other fighters had overlooked,
it found another enemy. A dwarf no doubt spying on the defenses of the city.
He got him, broke its arms.. legs.. and neck and dragged the lifeless body to one of the pillars at the gate.
This would show them, what spys had to expect.

The Lizard awoke once more from his dozing under the tree. It was time to go out and look around. It left as some fighters from over the realms met behind the fortifications.

It found an unknown human in the Malachin mine. He seemed harmless enough and for some strange reason offered it a vial with a fire as well as a magical gem. Humans! They were so strange and untrustworthy, so it urged him to follow instead. As he complied it relaxed and suddenly got the items stuffed into its claws.
Still the human followed up to the city gate. There they all had gathered, house Fox and others, well hidden behind a closed gate. It urged the human toward the gate, but he was resistive. Still not a single fighter dared to come out and help him with this resilient human.
Staff in one hand and the items in the other it was somewhat encumbered.
And then: complaints how he dared to leave the city proper, when he never got any order like that. Suddenly the human caused an explosion, it was thrown backwards and the human escaped. Alone it followed but the human simply seemed to have vanished. Inwardly he fumed. How could such a faithless and coward bunch rule the city.
When he returned he showed them what the human had left. This caused some panic and while first he was scolded to have left the city now he was barred entering the city.
Still none dared even set a foot out of the city. Flicking his tongue he could scent the fear. They sent him to get rid of that vial and so he went to the river.
And then havoc broke loose, the forces of Cadomyr hid behind the walls with their arrwos while he stayed outside, fighting alone against the appearing hordes of undead. This would have run well, when suddenly some thinskins appeared. It fought them of once, twice, but then he was trapped and everything drowned in a red haze... faith.... Mother would look after him..

When it awoke, it felt pain all over. It could barely move and carried himself to the sanctuary just to collapse at its entry.
Few if any visited this place these days. Mother would take care....
He dreamt.. or was he... a voice calling out to him.. demanding him to follow to leave the city and walk out into the desert.
If mother desired him to do, he would... faith..!

Once awake again it trudged out of the city into the great desert.
It passed the mountain.. passed some predators of the desert and finally from pure exhaustion hid himself in a cave.
Then it knew no more...

When it awoke it felt much better.
Several of its wounds where healed, leaving just some scars.

It flicked its tongue, as it perceived a strange smell that nudged his mind.
Something it could not quite remember.

The lizard was agitated, so agitated that i forgot what it was doing... he had driven the screeching short thinskin into a corner of the cave...

First it was surprised about the praise of the virtues of the former count.. concealed it was behind many words but still he named the more prominent characteristics of the count as crucial to a good leader.
But then he had started to excuse cowardice and lack of faith... it remembered the disgraceful situation at Mas...

he continued to hammer at the already dead thinskin
...filth....

The lizard limped to his resting place, pain was everywhere.
The fights had been long.. very long.. and very taxing.
But faith had kept him up, yes he had shown them.
But then the signs of reverence of those thinskins were of little relevance.
He had to follow the example of the count, of his house.
At least those thinskins had shown a bit of courage.. daring to leave the protection of the walls.
But as was expected only Srr't - a lizard - had dared to really fight.
But he had also dared to belittle the count.. to downplay his deeds!
And this greenskin.. that had been a surprise.
And that one even was'nt Cadomyrian.. most strange.
Of course later, when the darkness had retreated and the tides had turned, some more of the thinskins had dared to go forth.

The lizard wiped the blood from his scales. It still seeped from his scars.
The hospital... no.. there were thinskins there.. and those .. tools.. tables.. it meant overwhelming pain..
No mother would take care...
His eyes glazed over.. and he seemed to doze of... something seemed to call out for him.. some demand..

The Lizard woke with a start...

A rat... it had dreamt of a rat... yes..
It hissed in outrage. House Fox had sided with that rat on Mas, had protected it... when it was obvious that is was just another faithless creature of the enemy.
And the inevitable had to happen.. the rat had attacked him, together with the cursed ones...
Once he would be well on his legs again he would hunt it.. and nail its skin to the fox's doors...
Then it slumbered away... exhausted...
