Chickens

Post by LucyP »

Artimer asks her, “Finding everything all right,” to which she responds that she is but she wishes the chickens gave her more eggs. He explains that she can get eggs from the nests but she prefers her eggs fresh from the hen. She requests more chickens that lay eggs and he tells her that he can’t help her with this.

Deciding to take matters into her own hands, Qoa'tl'quet takes the 24 fresh eggs she collected just that day and decides to try and hatch them herself… but where? She takes off through the town and suddenly decides to look near the water by the fishing hole so she heads south through the gate.

Upon nearing Zerarisa, the helpful lizard kin who taught her how and where to find fish just that day, she spots a lovely water blossom near the shore, which is surely a sign from the Mother! She rushes over, picks it up and slips under the table that is there and a perfect place to hide her nest. Mother is certainly providing for her. Pulling in mud, dirt, leaves, sticks and all sorts of other debris, she builds a large nest underneath the table until she has it sorted out just right, taking her time and getting it just right. Then she carefully lines the bottom with the 24 eggs and looks them over before layering some more mud and dirt over the top of them. Then she spins around in circles as she looks at her work and tries to find a comfortable position to keep her eggs warm and protected.

She watches the road and the water both, keeping vigilant so her chickens are safe. She says a small prayer to the Mother, thanking her for looking out for her and the needs of all.

As she is out running errands, Qoa'tl'quet builds a fire on the human-made wood floor near her nest to keep her eggs clutch warm and predator free. The fire is near the table, but still far enough away as to not endanger her chicken eggs as she goes about her business.

After Nokh'tar threatens Qoa with a shiny sword then comes near her egg clutch, Qoa runs into town to notify Chancellor Dranis of this catastrophe near her nest. Qoa tells Nokh'tar that he cannot possibly measure anyone's purity as only the Mother can do so and begins to build up walls of mud, sticks, and rock around her nest in defense to his intrusion as he fishes nearby.

Because of all of the threats from the crazy lizard, and at the urging of Bob, Qoa'tl'quet abandons her nest of eggs, leaving the mess of mud, sticks, rocks and other detritus laying all over the supposed mage house and under the table. Not to mention the scorch marks left on the floor from all the fires. She decides to start over in a more secure location.

As Qoa enters town from her hunt, she is asked to follow Chancellor Artimer, he has begun building a new nest site for her and the chicken eggs. With much excitement, Qoa follows him as he goes to a merchant and chops some wood from a tree then enters the back alley where all the stinky toilets reside with Bula. Qoa looks at him aghast and exclaims she cannot nest there, it is far too stinky where the landlings poo! Besides, Qoa needs fresh water for nesting. He looks at her in surprise and gathers up some materials from the back corner, behind Bula, accepting of Qoa’s needs. This rather surprised Qoa as I am sure he has never tried to hatch a clutch of any type of egg before and pleases me greatly.

Qoa follows him through a door in the bakery, which she has never used before. They go down a hole and find lots of water. She sniffs around; her snout raised in the air. She is drawn to some pure sparkling sweet smelling water found up above the ground. Artimer says it is atop someone’s home. Qoa grows even more excited as she searches around for a way to get up there.

Upon finding the pond, Qoa gets down on all fours and laps up some water with her tongue, tasting its purity. She tells Artimer and Darius that the water is the best she ever tasted and reminds her of that in the Lake of Life. One of them tells her it is possible the lake feeds this pond. Qoa suddenly rushes about the little pond, finding a good spot for her nest and tells Artimer where to begin building. After much fussing about and weaving of sticks and boughs, Artimer places in fifty chicken eggs to Qoa’s shock. Is a huge clutch of eggs to try and hatch, but Qoa gets right to work, settling them in and covering them with some leaves and flowers of the Mother. She happily lays down on top, curling her tail around herself and purrs to the eggs contentedly.

Qoa does spend much time each day, tending her clutch of chicken eggs. She turns each one gently, keeping them warm and moist, using water from the little pond on the rooftop of the flat underneath Galmair. Qoa did recently learn that this water, which she has been using on the eggs, drinking, and swimming/bathing in, is heavily fortified with mana, whatever this means. There is nothing Qoa can do about it now and continues on with her daily duties.

Quo may seem more excited than usual as she runs about town, performing her duties, as her clutch approaches its hatch time.
