Yes you are right,
capturing an IG event always produces issues like spell errors, ooc, language mix, NPC interaction ....

What we need is taking a movie like a real film production with given scripts, multiple shots etc. Our player must then act like actors and put the real RP aside for that time.

So everybody, feel free to promote your script.

e.g.
5 wizards, peaceful clothes, wizard hats in multiple colors, wand in hand
A Wizard alone outside examining anything: GM message “A bright green light rises over the Dead Swamp”
----
Door of the study room from outside
Wizards arrives – one short after the other.
----
a study room with bookshelves
W1: There was a bright green light over the dead swamps yesterday.
W2 (immediately): That must be the fire dragon, I expect there.
W3 scratches his beard
After 5s
W4: Fire should have been red or orange, as I know it.
Answers now come faster and faster
W5: You see dragons everywhere.
W3: It’s strange, very strange.
… I need more text here
W1: We should go and look.
Silence!
----
Wizards walk
Wizards struggling passing a narrow bridge together
---
Wizards hide behind a tree in a swamp and a green bone dragon com into the picture, spitting green fire
W run in all direction crying all at the same time
W1: Oh No!
W2: That’s the wrong dragon!
W3: Green fire is not possible!
W4: Help!
W5: A dragon!

That ritual one looks cool, I can read it. It's a shame the end of the video shows outside and not what happened inside, though.

The idea of a scripted scene is a good one. Things a player should see: talking, emotes, walking, running, fighting, dying, monsters, monster magic, all characters with different and maybe obscure paper dolling (show all armour types?), weapons, inventory and bag.

And I agree also that there should be one in all German and a different version in all English. Good work.

A lot of people (15?) and a lot of cuts (60)
https://youtu.be/gob6y8g8Ymg

I'm not sure if some of the cuts aren't too short (2s) but I wanted to limit the total length.
It's even mow 4:30 in total yet.

the next one, Banduks Auction in Galmair

I think I should redo this one, from my perspective it's to hard cut.
Maybe better to concentrate to the auction of a single item.

I might be stupid here but is that an official Illarion YouTube channel? Its name is "Illarion Videos" and it uses the official logo. Did the team ask you to make that? The channel banner looks official too.

Edit: Also PLEASE, ask players if it's ok to record or that you're going to; I don't appreciate having my interactions recorded if I don't particularly feel like it, especially without my knowledge.

The video of Letma investigation is really well done, nice rp all round. Makes me want to log in, actually. Hopefully it has the same affect on new potential players

Due to players concern I removed all movies with more than a single char acting.

Yes it was discussed in the team in 2015 and found the best applicable solution.

You meant well, Banduk. You didn't act maliciously, just tried to promote the game. I understand people want to be told first before recording but that is easy solved.

Instead of making all videos with more than one char private why not just make that latest one private that was complained about? I didn't see anyone complain about the others so making them unavailable is not really necessary and perhaps an overreaction.

Sure, that's one way of looking at it. But I guess showing many chars interacting to new players will attract them to play and create a reaction where by it becomes more common. Monkey see, monkey do. Whether its successful or not is to be seen. But it's a start.

Maybe it would be easier to remind certain people that they are voluntary game testers and have no rights, including to any materials produced therein. Gameplay streaming/recording is very common and popular these days and does not require permission from everyone who appears onscreen. What exactly is the concern?

Just want to say; I never requested anything to be deleted. I think it's nice to have promotional videos of the game, I just don't agree that recording everyday RP is the way to do it.

I do not really get the complaints about this video. I mean, it was not the first one, this thread is from 28.09.2015. That are one and a half year(!) you had to say that you do not want to be part of such a video. Obviosly you did not complain about that before, I am not sure if this thread was ignored or it was just about "Well, it's not me, I do not care." Banduk did a good job with these videos and I simply do not get why you are complaining about being visible here since this is nothing top secret. There even is a report in the rp-forum about what happened, so this video did not reveal something new that somebody could use against you ig.

Like this one. And of course, maybe it was not too successful till now, but the more videos you have the more likely it is that somebody stumbles about it.

I'm not willing to discuss it furthermore but I have personally bad experience with people scanning everything for possible gaining money by blaming law breaks. I mostly trust or player that they will not start such a legal attack but sad to say it can come from a specialized lawyers agency scanning the internet on the search for placing reminder with costs.

If I publish any, inform the shown people and got any concern, I violate law if I do not delete the content immediately or make the people not recognizable.
To do it 100% according law, I'd need a written permission from every person except the issue is from public interest or the person is part of a huge crowd such as spectator at a soccer game.
The StreetView law discussions show it is accepted, if I react after I got the the concern. But I had to inform the shown people what I did in the forum.

Since using the forum especially the "player behind chars" thread someone might be able to track down a char IG to the real person. I cannot say if a legal reminder finally works but I'll not try my luck. And the trouble and time stay with me in every case.

Basically, best in promotion is: Do nothing, that's the only legal save way.

So I have to ask if it is okay to keep my game logs? I think not.

My (admittedly somewhat superficial) courses in media law are a while back now an I probably will do some proper research on the matter on the weekend. But as far as my understanding goes, recording and publishing interactions between player avatars in a videogame is not translated to recording and publishing people in real live. Even if people could in theory with some effort be identified by their voice, nickname or other indicators shown in the footage. Good luck sueing someone for putting up or streaming a video where he catches your character on screen in an public MMO.

Aw you took it down? What the hell?

I made a short video myself to test my software. I use shadow play, so all I have to do is hit a keyboard shortcut and i can capture any game, including illarion. I was going to try and capture a video of the bard contest, at least Caswirs part. I would also like to get some battle scenes or quests, that is why I like this video so much. :(

(Here is my video if anyone wants to see it, kinda boring though https://youtu.be/5Dy4Z5IXC90)

I wouldn't go around publishing game logs for the same reason I wouldn't record without consent. It is this reason and others that I use to justify the belief that "normal" gameplay shouldn't be recorded as promo material.

As for recording purely public material as a player... Illarion is such a deeply personal game that it touches the boundaries of IRL privacy and I think it deserves respect. People get upset when RP that happened between, for instance, two characters gets made public.

"All other content of Illarion, pictures, sound effects, music and the homepage is property of the Illarion society and is therefore protected by copyright if not indicated otherwise. It is not allowed to use this content without the consent of the Illarion society." - http://illarion.org/illarion/us_rules.php#copyright

Publishing a promotional video created by the publisher of in game content with permission from the players shown in said video is unnecessary legally. Asking for your permission to record and publish (which, btw, I am pretty sure the videos are not monetized), is really just a nice thing to do. Though it seems that peoples concern about about personal boundaries extends to most MMORPGs and not just Illarion, (http://www.aaai.org/ocs/index.php/ICWSM ... /8111/8146). TBH, would you rather have faked, scripted interactions for promotional videos, or realistic interactions that make use of both awesome rp and the game engine?

There could be a few ways around the permission issue. Either it is added into the ToS of Illarion that you may be recorded by development and give your consent upfront. Or after recording, you can be asked for permission before publications. I would hate for everyone to be asked ig prior to recording and during as new players/characters step in and out of the scene. And this is coming from someone who doesn't like to be recorded or photographed either (evil soul catching devices). ;)

I'm not understanding some of this objection assuming my character and my roleplay is under the right of Illarion as soon as I play i.e. I am no longer the owner at that time. Therefore the only permission I would see would be that of the Society.

Perhaps as Dantagon mentioned that needs to be clarified in the ToS.
