Questions about role playing a Priest.

Post by Shasiara Ii'rah »

I'm fairly new to the whole concept of playing a Priest in this game. I was wondering is there any steps that I would have to do in order to be acknowledged as a Priestess of a god? As of now I've chosen for my character to become a Priestess of Oldra and has already devoted her life to that goddess. Now I would have to buy a book about her I suppose? Afterwards I'm not so sure what to do next.

Also I was wondering would it be okay for her to learn the arcane arts or is that just for mages? My character isn't so good with swords and fighting up close so she would prefer to use magic instead if that's possible.

The basic concept is you play either a mage or druid or priest or warrior.

Since priest magic is not implemented yet, you have to rp everything.
Personally I doubt that priest magic will become live within an reasonable time frame. So it should be possible to play a priest with holding masses and arguing for her God and be a druid or mage or warrior.

The only engine side capability is to devote your char to one of the new gods. But that's possible for every char.

Playing a priest for some years now. At the moment there is no thing like Wand magic for mages for priests ingame (but it is planed). When I came up with somerhing which should have an effect I asked a GM for Support (For example: A few days ago I held a Service with the purpose to clean an area from an effect which came up during a long term quest - a Gm helped me during this). But mostly it is rp and convincing People at the moment. So don't let yourself beeing stopped in doing stuff priests could do just because some technical things are still work in progres.

To your question if it would be ok to learn the arcane arts: Noone will stop you, but as far as I know at some point (Most likely when the developers finished work and all about magic, Priest stuff etc is implemented) you have to chose between arcane magic, priest stuff or beeing an alchemist/druid. It is possible to change if you already had chosen another path... Maybe the staff could give you an answe.

If you have some questions left (whatever it May be) you could also send me a pm.

Cheers,

PO Alrik

 as i know at the moment it is only possible to change from druid to mage or in the other direction with help from a GM.

Technically it is only possible to practice 'one' mystical craft at a time.
Wand-magic, gylph-magic and alchemism are implemented, druidism and priesthood have no engine system as of now.

There are characters wo might (I say rightfully so) doubt someones claim of being a priest when they openly practice another mystical craft (which in game is known to be impossible) and might even do nasty things to characters committing such heresy.
I did write with a gm on the matter for another (very similar) case, the gm point of view was basically:

Unless it has written approval by a GM, a mage or alchemist is no priest.

GM-approval on this is possible, by the way. Just get in touch with your favourite GM Slightly.
In the case referred to by me a 'priest wand' version of an arcane wand was granted for some activity and effort in roleplay and ressources.

I have been working on a magebuild character. But now Ive gotten so far, and I wish that I could somehow turn him into a priest. Do you think it will be possible to change my character from a wand mage to priest, once priest magic is implemented? I know Ive seen options like this before in the past when updates are done and new features are released. I am just hoping Ill have a chance to switch my mage build to priest when the time comes. Does anyone know anything about this or if it is planned?

I am betting that once priest magic goes live, if you ask a GM really, really nicely, they will reset your values so you can be a priest. Though it may mean losing all levels in wand magic while you are at it. For right now, start reading up on some of the lore and the desired god you are following. Hold sermons, be priestly, have fun.

Currently we are working on the revamp of the devotion system and favor gain and loss which is going to be an intricate part of priest magic.

Changing attributes levels is not possible as they said. You can buy changes from trainer, but I think they can accept change in class or proffesion (from mage to priest). This would need GM (I think).

Thank you all for the wonderful answers! I may just wait for the priest magic to come into play than touching mage magic itself.

Also if anyone can give me any insight, what does a Priest of Oldra usually do? Like for say, sermons, prayers, and possibly rituals. I just wanna make sure that I roleplay one as accurately as I can.

How would someone who follows the goddess of life and fertility worship her? She is all about food and family as well as healing. Structure your character in the same vein as someone who has those core beliefs. Is your priestess a healer and a midwife? Is your character a farmer and a cook? Does she live off the land and abstain from much if any material wealth? Read up on the goddess' page and go from there. You may have to start small. Instead of grand festivals, it may be small dinners with friends. But it is the little things that become magical in their own right.
