Please note: This list might be subject of change any time. Also, we'll add new skills in future and these skills will be associated with attributes you might consider "useless" today.

correct me if am wrong.. but this says which helps in leveling each skill right??

could you also make a list of what helps which actions too?
like i heard
distance weapons also use strength to determine how much damage is dealt... also dexterity has a part to play in it and so on..

and farming though its mentioned only in constitution ..
needs strngth and agility to make the char a good farmer

in short what am asking is a character making guide(the preset attribute doesnt why and doesnt help with alloting points if we know only the above given list)..
like
crafters need
1. YYYYYY because XXXXX reason
2. ZZZZZZ because wwww reason

warriors..
,,,

ARchers...
....

etc etc

:D hope it is not too much to ask :)

See Firefly's post. Don't believe all rumours ;-). Those rumours are commonly based on outdated information. Most influences of attributes are pretty strange forward since the VBU. Always keep in mind that there is no perfect build because if you max out e.g. three attributes and dump the rest, you will suck (really suck!) at actions related to those dumped attributes. Don't blame us if you fall victim to any apprentice magician or priest in future or cannot brew potions.

Some people complained about skilling being too slow, after brief investigations, it turned out that they dumped the related attributes. Use some common sense as well; maxing intelligence for a fighter is as useful as tossing cotton balls at demons. However, once we have all three magic systems, you might regret dumping it completely.

As a sidenote, the account system provides rather well balanced suggestions for different roles. Modify them according to your needs and the intended role.

Can we get a check that agility really does govern puncture learning and not perception? I'm having the hardest time leveling it while very rested with 17 agi and only 25 puncture. Even when i use an agility potion it's extremely difficult.

Wie ist es eigentlich mit den neuen Instrumenten wie Trommel oder Panflöte? Auch Geschicklichkeit?

@Salathe: Yes, it is agility.

@Sammy: Yes, all instruments use dexterity.

To Salathe and everyone who wonders:

Your lack of skilling success might be reasoned by the new form of "skillcap". It's simple... everytime you learn something the chance to learn something new gets lower. But everytime you do something different (exept idleing) the chance of learning something new increases. That means if you skill/train a lot the chance of learning anything new becomes very low at some point. This isn't a matter of hours or minutes, the script checks your habit. So if you spend more time on RP you will learn easier - but not faster. No matter how you do it, the ammount of time used to max a skill remains the same. You can spend 10 h skilling or 1h skilling and 9h RP the total sum of your skill will be the same at the end. It doesn't matter how you play - the reward is the same as long as you play at all.

Recording to your words I think this is the reason you learn so hard, not the leading attribute.

Yes I'm aware. That does need to be noted in this thread though! And I spent a very long time RPing and running around not performing any actions. Maybe its something else =P

I'll be more than happy to check your mental capacity points as a one off, next time you're ig Salathe. At least this way, you can determine whether you've burnt out your char by performing too much skill-related actions, or if it's some other issue that we need to look into.

In most cases it's the former, people don't realise how quickly these caps increase by simple actions.

doubt what happens when you Rp along with skilling??
Eg: while Mining... #me scratches his head...

what i am asking is... is it possible to prevent getting burnt out by doing this...?!
emoting or talking to fellow gamers who are near by...?!

Emoting while you skill changes nothing. Your MC goes down all the time when you're roleplaying OR skilling, it's just that it also goes up (at a higher rate than it's going down) when you're skilling.

If it constantly goes down, how is idling prevented?

If you do nothing for 5 minutes, it stops going down. :)

No amount of RP or social-whatever while performing actions (crafting/gathering/fighting) will all you to slow your growth of MC (Mental Capacity).

As Nitram said, you're MC depletes (allowing you to learn more) as long as you are active for atleast 5 minutes. Whether you do 1 action (any command ingame) per 5 minutes or 1000, it makes no difference. In the end, the best way to combat your build up of MC this is to simply engage yourself in conversation, or attend one of the many quests listed on the homepage =)

As long as you perform an action, you are considered active for 5 more minutes. An action is anything in game, be it taking 1 step, turning, speaking, #me'ing, crafting, opening a bag, attacking something once, etc etc etc. Though any action that works towards a skill will reduce your MC while you perform that action.

The armor skills don't have a lead attribute.

Should this be updated? As Dodge and Tactics do not seem currently active or are they now behind the scenes or something?

how about skills you already mastered. Like the language skill of your race.

if i use elven language, with my elf, during RP, it is actually an action that is supposed to use my elven language skill, even though there is nothing to learn there, as i am naturally on 100% as an elf.. will it affect my MC?

No. If you hit the maximum of the skill, you won't learn any more by excuting actions related to this skill. Therefore, it does not increase your mc points.

Does this count for things like no longer learning from smelting when you hit level 20 blacksmithing, or no longer learning from shearing sheep when you hit 20 tailoring?
