I wonder what crafting skills perception affects besides herb gathering.

None technically as far as I know. Perception will effect your ability to tell the quality of the items you create while crafting, which can be a hassle for many the craftsmen.

This problem can be solved by carrying a mirror when ever you plan to craft but including the mirror check (putting the mirror in hand when to mouse over the object) only lengthens the sometimes already lengthy crafting process.

Perception also affects your ability to pinpoint map locations. The higher it is. the smaller the area you have to search when digging.

Arien said that Estralis wrote:
Perception is useful for SOME weapons, e.g. two handed swords... But the influences of attributes are rather complicated.

Does perception really influence the use of swords?

Perception and dexterity combined influence the critical damage of your weapons (doesn't matter what kind of weapon you use), that's my experience though.

I find that with some of my chars with high perception, they usually have a better hit ratio.
That may just be me thinking it though so test it o ut yourself.
