Feuer Frei! / Fire Freely!

Post by Joris X »

Alright. Forest Fires.

Just a wonder, how do you start these kind of incidents (forest fires)? I personally want to prevent them, as my character is getting into more glassblowing, and he has to burn large amounts of wood to get potash... yet I burn them in more forested areas for convenience and safety of towns.

... Are these just like GM'ed events that happen if your careless, or what?

They aren't GM'ed

What I thinkl happens is it pretty much measures the likelihood of you burning the place down and then acts accordingly.

PS: Fires in forests= lots of very mad people. Just.... spend the time to get onto some grass or something.

How it works is like this.
Everytime you make a campfire it has a chance to start a wildfire.
A wildfire looks like the average mage flame.
The wildfire also has a chance to start another wildfire.
And so the process inevitable accelerates.
Untill the forest is consumed,
Someone puts it out,
Or it stops spreading of its own accord.

And as a result of this a bunch of druids and/or elves will eat you alive.

So just.... dont light fires in the forest.

Yes. NEVER EVER EVER light a fire in a building. Arson is -highly- frowned upon by GM's and players alike. It is also -extremely- easy to burn buildings.

I'd know. I've burnt a few of them by mistake. But I refuse to say which.

Actually, gynk fires dot cause fires. I havent a clue why not... considering they were oriinally called molotavs and molotavs basically exist to cause fires....

But, back on topis, You should check out the wiki and see if it talks about foires. But sand, grass, streets, and such dont burn.

I don't own a lizard character to tell the truth. :(

I don't plan on it soon. I mean, truthfully, I'd have to really RP -why- I was setting the fire. I don't want to set the fire -just- to set the fire. Ya know?

Arson is -highly- frowned upon by GM's and players alike.
One should note that arson itself(!) is not frowned upon by GMs or players but characters. Griefing and destructive behaviour is frowned upon by GMs.

So, lighting a fire is not a rule violation. Waiting for everone of a certain guild logging off, walking to their guild hut, lighting hundreds of campfires at the very same spot and logging off as soon as the wildfire starts - that is not such a good idea...

What is Griefing exactly? I'm guessing it has nothing to do with crying or sobbing in any way - maybe a revenge? Could someone define that a little better for me? :(

Griefing is doing something that doesn't benefit the roleplay of the game and is purely done to antagonise other players.

Very nice. Thanks for the help guys. I'm surprised that there is such a great community out there for Illarion. A lot of games similar to this take a great deal of time for the Gamemasters or other players to get back to you, but this one just seems to be fantastic at supporting new players and old players alike from what I've seen. Thanks a lot for your time! :D

Starting wildfires exactly at the time when the players you target are definitely not logged on is very unfair behaviour. You want a fight, go and get it, but using OOC chances for your own advantage or just to ruin some other player's day just for a reason-excuse like "my char doesn't like elves" is a kind of unfairness that is simply not needed in this community. Such habits, always done by a few, have driven a lot of players out of illarion already, and it is only consequent of the GMs to act in such cases now.

This game is about roleplaying and having fun with other players, and making everyone else enjoy the game. NOT about making people angry the unfair way.

Anyone who through fire or any other means, intentionally or unintentionally, damages the property of the town, an individual or a group commits a crime under the law. To encourage caution with fire, even unintentional cases of property damaging will be punished with fines. The minimum fine is 25 silvers but there is no upper limit.

Taken from the Archduchy of Troll's Bane thingy-ma-bob. Under serious offenses letter C.

You could be sentenced to, but not limited to... *Fun little price-awarding ceremony music*

A fine of 25-50 silvers! Oooooo...
Banishment from Troll's Bane and surrounding estates forever! Ahhhhh...

-or-

Twenty days of jail time!

My character tried to go visit that "little lizard" in jail (for rp reasons) but could not get down there since the latter downward into the jail would not work. Does anyone know if this is due to the destruction around town or if I need to report it as a glitch?

Last I heard was it was a rather big glitch that was already reported. Turns out the maps for a lot of the underground pieces (underground of the Fluffy Sheep Tavern, jail, wells, etc.) are missing from the database and thus the server for some bloody reason. The Gamemasters are working on it, so no worries for the time being.

It'll be fixed soon, and I'm sure the lizard is quite happy in solitude for now.

ouch, thanks for the update. I really should have checked over there myself but I didn't see that anything new had popped up and I am a bit tired since it is pretty early in the morning here (oops, I should sleep).
