Mining and my difficult life.

Post by scarecrow »

Hello all, this is a topic i have sought help on in the game. I will say that people have been very good, especially Athian (forgive any spelling mistakes) who did provide advice for me.

I will describe my problems and experiences. Firstly, i still havent managed to get my hands on any minerals of any sort, although i have been recomended quarts as a starter. A lizardman even tried for after escorting me to a mine. He used my tools and didnt find any either. He said he had not mined in a long time and things may have changed. My experience of using my tools has been this. If i use a tool on a rock nothing happens. If i use a rock on myself i get sound effects and have done this for a long time and on different rocks in different places and still got nothing. If i have used a rock on myself and then use a rock on my tool, then i get sound effects though often only from one speaker. This can then be done a few times until it stops working and i have to use a rock on myself again. Again, i still end up with no minerals.

The most i have got out of this tedium is a very basic mining skill that seems to meen little and suicidal tendencies. Do not get me wrong, I am still very interested in the game and am about to try again in just a moment. The main issue is I have no idea if im making a silly mistake or am getting it right and its just a matter of time. I have spent quite a lot of time trying to mine and can only conclude that im crap at it. No wonder i want to be an adventurer.

You should probobly ask a dwarf for help. I dont think there is a dwarf that doesnt know.

Dont give up on finding out ingame :D
took me a while to figure it out when this mining system was started...

It is this kind of thing that is bringing this game illarion down. Totally unnecessarily complicated procedures to do something as simple as mining forces players to spend more time on trying to find out the technics rather than roleplaying instead. It is frustratingly boring to discover technical commands and I don't see why some people think having these things hidden from players is a good thing. Simple technical commands can help make a game a fun experience, but overly complicated commands especially in a roleplaying game only gives headaches.

You are not helping either.

You simply close your eyes from the fact that the team is constantly trying to improve every aspect of the game with the very limited ressources they got in thier hand.
Granted, some parts of the game are not running round and smooth, but who cares ? (Obvisouly you.)

Some scripts, or thier triggers, are not recognizeable at first glance, but why spoil out everything on the boards just because of that?

Nobody is the born miner, smither, gemcutter, ect. thats why it is understandable that some knowledge is only teached via characters.
Some explainary OOC wont kill or hurt anything or anyone in game.

I ask you to think about your rantings next time, and keep in mind:
"If it could have been made better, it would have."
