The Game // Das Spiel

Post by Slightly »

As the townsfolk go about their business preparing for the month to come few take much notice of a scruffily dressed halfling. Should they see him drop a rock or two, so what... He could even be stockpiling for his sling. When he kicks some rocks closer, then he's likely just anxiously awaiting the days to come... I mean, after all, it is just a rock.

By daybreak of the first day of Mas neat stone circles have been set at the gates of each of the realms. An ornate wooden cup with two bone dice sits in each circle.

As dawn breaks on the fourth day of Mas with the fearful already sleep deprived and weary, a spritely halfling lurks close to Runewick inviting any who pass to a game.

During their travels in the feral reaches of Eastland, a trio discusses plans for the future.
"I think it would be in our interest to collect them, for further study."
"Might be worth it."
"Yes, if we're in agreement, I'll collect the artifacts on my return to town."
"Our first study: the dice?"
With consensus reached, each of the three part, choosing their own paths back to where they call home.

Some days later, an old man wrapped in a worn cloak performs a succinct inspection outside the Runewick gate. He takes a moment to pace the circumference of each stone circle, and finding the light agreeable, commits the arrangement to ink upon a scroll. Satisfied that the particulars are captured in his diagram, he stoops to gather the constituents into a dark cloth pouch. Haltingly, he rises, and wends south.

Neither set of dice nor stones are seen in the vicinity of Runewick following his departure.
