Tournament: One Above All

Post by S'rrt »

Hear ye people of Hemp Necktie and surrounding realms!

Who do you regard as the strongest in battle? You may think it is you, in which case I invite you to find out at

One Above All

The tournament is carefully designed for the best of the best to match each other on common ground. This means:
  • Standardised equipment including ranged weaponry
  • Complete transparency
  • Several differently themed rounds catered for equal opportunity
  • Strictly no contraband (gems, potions); violators will be shamed and forever branded as "Dastard", also known as coward
If the description has caught your interest, please add your name and residence to the list below. Indication of your skill is optional but helpful.

Roster of combatants:
(( Link ))

Current number of combatants: 10

If there aren't enough combatants present for the rounds, they will be held at a later date

The details:
One Above All is a tournament consisting of three rounds named Mirror Champion, Swashbuckler Champion and Malachin's Champion. In these rounds, knockout means instant elimination unless a rematch is called due to a tie. The Champions (winners) of their own rounds won't compete in other rounds.

At the end all three Champions will face each other in the final round for the ultimate title of One Above All

1. Mirror Champion round has combatants face each other in identical gear.
The Champion of this round will receive:
  • a special golden emerald ring as proof of their superior use of weapons and armor
Note: A service to Malachin held by Knight Exelous will take place before the round begins.

2. Swashbuckler Champion round is similar to Mirror Champion but the combatants will be wearing no armor and have only a pre-determined weapon to rely on.
The Champion of this round will receive:
  • a special golden topaz ring as proof of their toughness and survival instinct
3. Malachin's Champion round is the most active round. In it, the combatants are thrown bags with useful and not useful items in them that they can freely take and use against their opponent.
The Champion of this round will receive:
  • a special golden diamond ring as proof of their ability to react and adapt quickly on the battlefield
4. The final round has the Champions of the previous rounds face each other in one last swashbuckler round where they may choose their weapon out of a selection.

Use of coin to decide gear:
On heads, light armor or piercing weaponry is used
On tails then heads, medium armor or slashing weaponry is used
On tails then tails again, heavy armor or blunt weaponry is used

The Champion to be the One Above All, on top of receiving the title, shall receive:
  • A sum of gold coins
  • A special ring of an archmage as proof of their unparallelled might
  • A specially designed masterwork chest armor of chosen type
Time and place of the first round:
Dawn of 18th Malas
((Sunday 30th April 6pm GER time))

Mirror Champion

Post by S'rrt »

A warrior, captured, stripped, and enslaved by wild orcs, gets his chance for revenge. He has been waiting for a moment to bring the slaves together and fight their captors. He hopes, prays, that he can find a sword and some lousy heavy armor to defend himself with... for that is all he knows how to use.

The warrior is out of luck. To his doom, these orcs are ones who favor heavy spears and intricate light armor and any familiar weapons and armor that he does find are too exotic and outlandish for him to use.

The warrior is tough and uses these tools the best that he can but he fails the mutiny he started. His head on a spike is a sore reminder of the failure of a warrior who chose to stay comfortable with his limited knowledge in handling armors and weapons.
Ladies and gentlemen,

The first round of the tournament, called Mirror Champion, is to be held on the dawn of 18th of Malas ((Sunday 30th April 6pm GER time)) in the Cadomyr training grounds, above our smithy.

In this round...
  • The combatants will face each other off in duels wearing one of three identical sets of armor and wielding identical weapons
  • Names shall be drawn to match up dueling pairs immediately, but only one duel is held at a time. The paired combatants may use the time during duels to agree on the type of weapon and armor they use, or they may choose to leave it to a coin flip
  • The winner will be given the title Mirror Champion along with a ring as proof, and the chance to win the ultimate title
  • The Champion of this round may not participate in the Swashbuckler Champion and Malachin's Champion rounds
The Mirror Champion is first of three champions to fight for the ultimate title of One Above All

Roster of combatants:
(( Link ))

Preceding the round there will be a ceremony held at Malachin's temple (entered through the mine south of Cadomyr) for honoring Malachin in which those faithful; servants, paladins and priests to Malachin are offered a chance to speak.
This ceremony shall be a reminder for us to unify our power against the evil that we face today. There will be food and drink.

Please see the original post for more details about the tournament.

Reminder, rule update, coin toss clarification

Post by S'rrt »

Ladies and gentlemen,

The first round of the tournament is taking place in three ((ig)) days and we have 10 combatants!

  • Cadomyr
  • S'rrt K'shire, Ssar'ney, Dantagon Marescot, Exelous, Lyrica Elmswood

    Galmair
  • Groz, Drugar Stonesmasher, Jonathan Cain, Tyan Masines

    Runewick
  • Riniao Teries
This is truly a remarkable result which I certainly did not expect, and I wish to extend my personal thank you to the participating combatants as well as others who are helping the cause.
If there are those who are now taking interest; there is still time to apply here ((link))

On another matter regarding the tournament, there have been a couple of small rule changes:
1. A winner of a round, a Champion, may not take part in another round to win another Champion title (but anyone who is not a Champion may participate in any of the first three rounds)
2. Names are drawn and matched all at one time so that the matched combatants may spend the time to agree on the type of gear used
3. Knockout means instant elimination; rematch only if the combatants knock each other out
Additionally, as a clarification let it be known that the coin toss, which is used when combatants cannot agree, is not used to make a choice between two types of gear but three:

On heads, they use light armor or piercing weaponry
On tails then heads, they use medium armor or slashing weaponry
On tails then tails again, they use heavy armor or blunt weaponry

This Noble hopes to see a grand gathering both at the initial service of Malachin held by Knight Exelous and at the tournament in Cadomyr training grounds above our smithy.

Mirror Champion: Count Ssar'ney of Cadomyr

Post by S'rrt »

Ladies and gentlemen, the winner of the first round, and the receiver of the title Mirror Champion, is Count and Templewarrior Ssar'ney of Cadomyr!

The Count received the golden ring of an eagle wearing an emerald as a crown to symbolize excellency in form of the predatory bird, but also knowledge of the usage of proper gear for battle, and a chance to win the ultimate title, One Above All. As is stated in the rules, any Champion may not take part in another round, but the Count is of course invited to observe the Swashbuckler Champion round instead.

Below you will see the flow of the tournament. The stars denote runner-ups
Image
(Due to uneven numbers, Baron S'rrt K'shire first fought Tyan Masines, then Krukk Krakash)

Many great duels were seen and surely we have made Malachin, and any other gods, proud with our display. This Noble would like to once again thank those who were present to make this happen. Let us hope that the next round, Swashbuckler Champion, proves to be just as interesting!

Details regarding the next round of the tournament will be announced at this board as they become available.

Swashbuckler Champion

Post by S'rrt »

The story of a man captured by wild orcs could have gone very differently. His planning could have relied more on stealth and getting out alone, instead of trying to save the other captives.

We can imagine him, only dressed in torn trousers and shackles, stalking his way out of a dungeon when misfortune strikes and he is intercepted by a guard. Having only a minute or two to deal with the orc that stands between him and freedom, the man grabs a frail spear from the ground and surprises the orc with a strike. The orc, luckily, is also in light outfit, carrying a spear.

If Malachin were an emotion, a feeling, he would be what we feel as warriors when we face an enemy knowing that one wrong move could be our end; that moment where senses heighten, faith strengthens, adrenaline runs... and foes perish.
Ladies and gentlemen, the second round of the tournament is called

Swashbuckler Champion

In this round...
  • The combatants will face each other off in duels where no armor layers are allowed and weapons are few
  • Names shall be drawn to match up dueling pairs immediately, but only one duel is held at a time. The paired combatants may use the time during duels to agree on the type of weapon they use, or they may choose to leave it to a coin flip
  • The winner will be given the title Swashbuckler Champion along with a ring as proof, and the chance to win the ultimate title
  • The Champion of this round may not participate in the Malachin's Champion round
The Swashbuckler Champion is the second of three champions to fight for the ultimate title of One Above All

Dawn of the 9th of Olos ((Saturday 13th May 7pm GER time))
Training grounds above Cadomyr smithy

Postpone

Post by S'rrt »

Ladies and gentlemen,

The poll for postponing the Swashbuckler Champion round resulted in the minimal amount of votes necessary to call for postponing of the round.

The Swashbuckler Champion round shall take place at the new time:
at the dawn of 12. Olos.
((Sunday/tomorrow 14th May 7PM GER))

This Noble hopes that his decision to change the time was not made in vain.

Swashbuckler Champion

Post by S'rrt »

Ladies and gentlemen,

The winner of the second round was observed to be yours truly: Baron S'rrt K'shire.

However, this Noble decided not to accept the title and instead passed it on to the finalist...

Jonathan Cain of Galmair

Jonathan Cain has shown throughout his participation in the tournament and fights at Letma that he is truly a human strong in mind and body, and rich in skill. He stands as one of the tallest examples of a human who could even match a lizard or a dwarf, and no doubt any human on an equal ground. A man like that deserves recognition and it is for these reasons that I have given such to him.

Jonathan Cain, Swashbuckler Champion, has received a special topaz ring similar in fashion to the previous ring, as proof of his title, and has gained the opportunity to fight for the ultimate title, One Above All.

Any Champions may not take part in the third round but are invited to observe.

(Due to uneven numbers, Jonathan Cain first fought Lyrica Elmswood, then Dantagon Marescot)

This Noble thanks those who were present to fight or watch. May the third round, Malachin's Champion, be the most grand of them all!!

Details regarding the next round of the tournament will be announced at this board as they become available.

Malachin's Champion

Post by S'rrt »

Imagine if you will, that the escaped orc slave, a knight, happens upon the room where the orcs are keeping their looted weapons and other useful things. The knight, resourceful in his knowledge and capable in his body, starts to put the most useful pieces to use... until he gets interrupted by a guard.

After the knight fights off the orc he realizes from the sounds he's hearing that he only has a few seconds to look for another weapon or piece of armor before having to confront another orc.
Ladies and gentlemen, the second round of the tournament is called

Malachin's Champion

In this round...
  • The combatants start off with nothing; matches are started with a bag throw described in next point
  • The combatants are periodically interrupted by the host who will throw out a bag containing weapons and armor of various quality and condition
  • Only ONE pick up of weapon and armor or shield is allowed at once
  • Whichever combatant takes an item faster may use it
  • Combatants are required to step away from the bag after collecting their one weapon and one armor piece or shield. Once both are stepped back, fighting is to continue immediately
  • Names shall be drawn to match up dueling pairs immediately, but only one duel is held at a time
  • The winner will be given the title Malachin's Champion along with a ring as proof, and the chance to win the ultimate title
Malachin's Champion is the third of three champions to fight for the ultimate title of One Above All

Noon of 24th Chos ((Sunday 11th June 8pm GER time))
Training hall above Cadomyr smithy
If any combatants are unhappy with the date of the round, they may suggest another one to the Tourney Scribe ((link))

Apply and see other combatants here:

Reminder

Post by S'rrt »

Ladies and gentlemen,

The third round of the tournament, Malachin's Champion, is taking place in just over a dwarven day ((Sunday 11th)).

Since the last round, we have gained one more combatant adding up to the old total of 10 combatants:
  • Cadomyr
  • S'rrt K'shire, Lyrica Elmswood, Dantagon Marescot, Exelous, Katharina Thorstar

    Galmair
  • Tyan Masines, Drugar Stonesmasher, Azure Lynch, Groz (Dastard)

    Runewick
  • Riniao Teries
Highlighted name(s) are new since last round. If there are those who are now taking interest; there is still time to apply here ((link)). See more details in above posts.

Malachin’s Champion

Post by S'rrt »

Ladies and gentlemen,

The winner of the second round, Malachin's Champion round, is...

Drugar Stonesmasher of Galmair!
He has received a special diamond ring similar in fashion to the previous ring, as proof of his title, and has gained the opportunity to fight for the ultimate title, One Above All.

However, there is a condition to his victory.

Due to Knight Lyrica Elmswood's sudden disappearance after her first victory, qualifying her for the next round to face Riniao Teries, this Noble has decided the following:
  • Knight Lyrica Elmswood is granted a limited-time opportunity to challenge Drugar Stonesmasher in one more Malachin's Champion round in an effort to win the title from him
  • Due to not facing Riniao, Knight Lyrica will have win against Drugar twice
  • Knight Lyrica may choose not to make this challenge, granting the assumption that she lost her round against Riniao
  • Drugar may also choose to decline the challenge if it is made, which would be quite unexpected for a Champion confident in their victory

* Stars denote runner-ups

This Noble thanks those who were present to fight or watch. The last round, One Above All, is the final round where the Champions face each other to win the ultimate title!

Details regarding the next round of the tournament will be announced at this board as they become available.

* A note is pinned under the announcement*
Due to re-breaking a bone in my hand while not wearing gloves while fighting, I was unable to continue the fight. I accept defeat by Mr Riniao and relinquish any claim on the title of Mr Stonesmasher.
