Vanima, unsafe.

Post by Quinasa »

Talathiel sat resting in one of the beds beneath the Great Hall in Tol Vanima. She hated being indoors, let alone underground, but there was nowhere else for her to rest and heal. She thought back to the events of the day that had brought her to the position she was in, and she couldn't help but feel helpless.

She had been daydreaming by the ovens, enjoying the warm weather and the sunlight through the trees... daydreaming so deeply that a hit from behind shocked her stiff, and the subsequent blow to the back of the head had her nearly knocked out. She hadn't heard anyone coming, it didn't occur to her to be on her guard in Vanima.

She threw her arms up in front of her face as she turn around in a defensive position. There were two of them, a male and a female, though she couldn't get a good look at either of them. They were dressed all in black and wore bird-like masks. One of them had an arrow aimed straight at her. She was confused from the hit on the head, and they demanded money and donations. She gave them all she had on her and hoped it would be enough to satisfy them. The female threatened her more, asking where she kept all of her coin, so Talathiel lied. Even if she had told them all of her coin was in her depot, she didn't think she'd be able to move to get it for them. None of her limbs wanted to work. So she lied. She told them that all of her money was elsewhere. The part of her brain that was still working thought that if they'd wanted to kill her, they'd do it whether she gave them what they wanted or not. The man seemed satisfied with her belongings, but the female... she was almost certain that the female was elven by her stature and speech patterns, the female was more insistent that they knock her out.

"Come on, Eagle, let's just leave her," the man said, putting his ill-gotten goods in his bag.

Before turning to run the female shot her ready arrow at Talathiel's foot and it pierced clean through the worn leather boot.

"Well you can't follow us with a shot foot anyways..." the woman said. Talathiel was sure the female was one of her kindred, and it enraged her. How could a sister do such a thing? She wanted to spit on her for insulting her, for hurting her.

When the two bandits disappeared, Talathiel let herself fall. She stared in horror at the black arrow with black feathers sticking out of her foot. Her head ached and her back throbbed. A dove, one of the several that always flew around Tol Vanima, landed on the ground beside her. Talathiel took some baking parchment and coal from the oven and wrote a quick note, her hands trembling and smudging blood on the letter. Her blood. She felt faint. She rolled up the paper and gave it to the bird, instructing it to deliver the message to the first person it came across.

Felbion and Felix were helpful. It hurt, what they did, but they got the arrow out of her foot and carried her down here. Mark brought her water and talked with her some, and now she was alone. Alone and scared for the first time in her life. Never had she endured anything so brutal, so cruel, and she didn't know what to do.
