Incomplete

That's how she felt over the last damn days and nights and that waiting and yearning for him does not help at all.
She had news for him, important news. Eyda, their daughter, was back.. finally back.

Where are you?

She breathed out a disgruntled sigh and lowered a hand down to the almost empty bottle between her legs, drowning the question with the red wine. Sitting on the sodden grass with her back pressed against the trunk behind her she let her striking blue eyes sweep over the smoke of the devouring flames of a fire between them and which was now glowing and crackling since the sunset.

Gods, she appears so grown up suddenly, her brown hair so long and her clothes so plain. One year was definitely too long.

One year.. one year of searching for reasons why she left them. Living one year in disappointment and in total cluelessness.
But she never would have guessed that salkamarian troops put their dirty fingers on her.
Her slender fingers kneaded the neck of the bottle as a storm began raging inside her, but blinking that thought out of her mind while trying her best to appear as calm as possible, the corners of Ashayen's mouth suddenly tweak into a rare and mildly amused smile as she kept staring at Eyda.
It was about time that he finally comes here as well. She looked forward to enjoy the sight of his baffled look and to his general reaction when seeing his daughter.
And maybe he is able to answer some of Eyda's questions to where she didn't find the answers yet.

Gods, Edward.. come and make me finally feel..

Her thoughts circled around all the things Ashayen told her, looking at the facts again and again from every point of view she could think of. Everything had changed. But what surprised her the most was herself, the fact that all this didn't really surprise her, or at least, not as much as one could have expected. Some of the news should have troubled her but for some reason they didn't.
But still she couldn't ban them from her mind. Maybe because they made all the things she worried about a few days ago suddenly so small and unimportant.

It's been a few days now since she stepped from the peer at the harbour, a few days since she finally made her way home again. One year... Sure, a long time... much too long. But looking at all the things happened, it felt like a little eternity. Nothing was how she reminded it. Everything has vanished or was turned into another light.

Yes, everything has changed... And so had she. That year changed her a lot. The girl was gone, for letting a young woman spread her wings. But her eyes still hold the temper of the cheeky, defiant girl who is just hiding beneath the seemingly calm and grown up surface.

One year...
Thoughtfully, she sipped from the still half filled bottle of wine, her fingers rather loosely closed around the bottle's neck. She still wasn't used to it, so the wine made her slowly a little bit dizzy. And slowly a kind of anger started to grow inside her, sneaky and silent. Anger about two certain persons, she probably would never reach. These two are whom she made responsible for the current situation. And a certain organisation...

And what now?

A sigh and the sound of wine sloshing around in an almost empty bottle took her off her thoughts, realizing Ashayen's gaze. As if suspecting Ashayen's thoughts by the amused smile, she raised her own bottle, giving her a lightly cheeky smile. Oh yes, she couldn't wait for the look on his face when he would see her...

His fingers brushed gently through the pitch-black hair of the woman who was in deep, quiet sleep. Ashayen lay next to him on the blanket, peaceful and motionless, enjoying the kind of peace that can only be achieved by sleeping with one’s mind finally calm after a long time spent ill at ease. His lips curved to a rare smile as he watched the beautiful, sleeping being… reflecting the events of the past days in his mind.

The last days had been shocking, but in a good way… Eyda’s return was a rather stark change of fortunes in comparison to the setbacks they all had suffered in the past months. Nonetheless, there finally was light at the end of the tunnel.

They all were together again.

The family had been broken like a piece of glass as the Salkamaerians came, with the jagged, broken shards each thrown into some distant corner. Yet, by a miracle… against all of his assumptions, they were back together again. “It is true, that we all have changed”, he muttered to himself quietly in the darkness… his hand brushing through Ashayen’s hair. Eyda’s absence had been a gnawing, painful experience in particular for Ashayen… he had mainly been bitter of what seemed like a ungrateful brat running away, but… somehow, he was glad that he had made the wrong judgment concerning Eyda. The young woman on the other hand appeared somewhat jaded after her own captivity, having apparently lost the shell of the shy little girl that she still was hiding in before her experience. He smirked as he thought about himself and his own troubles, appreciating the irony of his reversal of fortunes… from law-maker to an outlaw, from riches to rags… well, figuratively anyhow.

He needed a fresh start. They all needed a fresh start… he knew that Ashayen understood this as well.

With his eyes still lingering on his sleeping wife, he began to ponder… soon a plan was forming in his mind, and an amused smirk appeared on his thin lips.

"Why not…"

The small rest of glowing ember gave some rare light and turned the room around the fireplace into a lightly gleaming red. Though her eyes were closed, Eyda didn't find any sleep at all. Her mind was focused on the happenings of the past day. It wasn't the attack of the hungry wolfpack that troubled her mind. No, it was something originating much deeper.

She raised carefully from her blanket grabbing for her shoes. Barefeeted and silently she searched her way through the darkness, hoping not to wake up someone. She decided not to take the road, even if it maybe would have been safer, especially looking at the last happenings. But she didn't want to be noticed by anyone, so she searched her way through the woods, staying aside the roads until she reached Northbidge. Pulling her hood deeper into her face, she fastened her steps, keeping her gaze lowered. But noone was there who might have seen her in the middle of the night, at least, she didn't notice anyone.

When she arrived at the house, she caught herself searching for the key in her pocket at the very first moment. With a light sigh, she lowered her hand and took her way inside, as she knew how.
All she wanted to do was to get inside, catch her belongins and disappear to the woods again. But she should have known, that it wasn't that easy...

When she carefully closed the depot again, grabbing the small bundel she took out of it, her gaze wandered throught the half-dark room. The bundel gave a dumb sound when beeing dropped on the floor as she slowly walked towards the kitchen. As she steped in, the memories came up.

How Ashayen stayed by her side day and night when she was once injured that badly by an undead attacking the town...
The evening when Edward and Ashayen asked her to become their daughter...
All the times, when she rushed in, disturbing them in the most unfitting moments...
Ashayen teaching her how to read and write...
The evening with master-tailor Rosendil, when Edward and Ashayen put her in her very first dress...

Her hand was laying on the now so cold stone of the oven. Here... where they had sat so often... talking, discussing... arguing... laughing...
Where she burned the old amulet of her mother to close her past life...

She sighed and turnd on her heals, closing the door carafully behind her. Slowly she steped over to her bed on the other side of the room. Her fingers closed around the cloth of the blanket when she sat down at the edge of the bed. She swallowed. Yes, she was playing the hard one, when they told her about their plans. But she wasn't at all. How hard it was now at this moment not to hide under her planket and cry into her pillow, like she had done so often, when she felt like this.

But she couldn't.
No, she mustn't.
She had to stay strong now.
At least this was what she said to herself again and again.

Things were the way they were.
And she had to deal with it.
Crying wouldn't help at all.

She nodded to herself, biting on her lower lip as if the pain would help her to clear her thoughts. Quickly she reached for something under the pillow, bringing out a small book from beneath. And again, anger and some kind of hatred started to crawl up her mind for a second.

This wasn't their home anymore.
They took it.
They took everything.

But the voice of anger inside her couldn't silence the pain. Not this time.
She catched the small bundel while steping by and quickly sneaked out like she came in. Outside, in front of the maindoor, she stoped, turning once more. Carefully, she touched the cold stone of the wall, stroking over it with her fingertips, over the wodden doorframe until she reached the huge wodden door.

"Farewell...", she whispered, as if talking to an old friend, before turning on her heels and walking over the snowy meadow with fast steps. Swallowing hard, she pulled her hood deeper into her face once more, hiding the light wet glimmer in her eyes in its shadow as she directed her steps to her way back...

............................................................................................................................................Fly, fly little wing
.................................................................................................................................Fly, where only angels sing
...................................................................................................................................Fly away, the time is right
.........................................................................................................................................Go now, find the light.

..........................................................................................................................................Fly, fly do not fear
.......................................................................................................................Don't waste a breath, don't shed a tear
..........................................................................................................................Your heart is pure, your soul is free
............................................................................................................................Be on your way, don't wait for me
................................................................................................................................Above the universe you'll climb
..................................................................................................................................On beyond the hands of time
............................................................................................................................The moon will rise, the sun will set
........................................................................................................................................But I .. I won't forget

The words were hushed in a slow, crooning melody as Ashayen's eyes were fixed onto a particular spot upon the snow. Kneeling under a huge tree with her pale fingers carefully wrapped around a single flower she slowly began to lean in, dipping the stem of the tender nightangels blossom into the covering of snow, surprised that her hand was steady, since her insides were shaking apart.

There she was sitting now, by the grave of her baby. Dead, since years. The strolls to the grave became rare over the time, but not less intensive. The memories clung on her as if it happened just days ago. It was her utmost desire.. his too.. but with the death of their baby several years ago everything changed and now..
Now it was the time to finally let go of it. Of course those memories would always remain inside her, but it was time to let them come to a rest.
Life is not stopping, instead it goes on and on, so why not finally giving way to the future.. as a growing family.. they both joined in new flesh and blood.

Ashayen dropped her gaze to the hand which withdrew from the flower and a mildly amused smile flickered on her lips. The feeling of his heart, which was pounding like a hammer inside his chest just some hours ago when he finally opened himself to tell her about his desire, still lingered around her fingers and she can't remember if she ever felt such nervousness from him before. But it was comprehensible and she wondered if he knew that his whisper would cause an emotional rollercoaster which in the end made her silently curse that she, once again, fell back to the bad memories instead of letting the joy into her heart, for once. It felt as if she would have ruined the moment but he was there, soothing her pain and verbally giving her strength.
They were meant to be, together.. and forever. Long lost words were whispered slowly to each other as their warm gazes began to melt together before their lips just did the same, silently sealing what just has been said.

She rose from the ground, brushed over the soaked parts of her dark robe around her legs which now felt cold and somewhat heavy to move as she spun around on her heels with her hands coming up to tug the hood over her pitch-black hair and so she slowly made her way back to their sanctuary, leaving the past behind herself.

She was free.
He was free.
Eyda too.

Everything was simply perfect at the moment and she couldn't help but to smirk when strolling between some apple trees with the snow creaking under the sole of her boots with each step. And with this perfectness quite chaotic thoughts begun to spark up in the minds of these dark souls.
She was not sure in how far the plan to murder would develop, but she gave him the delighted promise to help, support and attend.
But much more important was their house. Eyda finally knew about the plan and, to Ashayen's surprise, understood it very well that her parents presume that the offer for getting the house back, just Ashayen alone, would be a trap for Edward. It was just not worth the risk.

Pacing the dimmed room with the bit of warmth that was radiating from the quietly creaking fire, leaving wet footsteps upon the floor as the snow from her boots was melting, Ashayen suddenly stopped with her pale eyes staring at what appeared to be a bundle and a small book, right next to the sleeping Eyda. She didn't notice the things before but that book.. was it really the book from the house? So then.. she was there.

A vague smile curled the corners of her mouth weakly upwards and her eyes settled over to the sleeping Edward to whom she carefully slipped to under the blanket. A hushed whisper, barely audible, began leaving her mouth as she snuggled her face against the side of his warm neck, her lips leaving a gentle, lingering kiss for good night.

"You're worth the whole trouble, be it the trouble we already have endured or the trouble which may come within the next months, years. I lo-.." the words trail off within the kiss.

A smile crept on his thin lips as he opened his eyes, realizing that he was no longer laying there alone. It was still dark and it was clear that sunrise was still hours away, his eyes only slowly adjusting to the darkness. He knew that he has many things to do that day, but the way she radiated warmth against him under the blanket made it easy to decide against leaving her comfort just yet. Sometimes, she could persuade him so easily without really doing much at all, he smirked to himself.

She had been surprisingly receptive towards his dark plan, one which he had hesitated to tell her at first.. but she embraced his idea with delightful enthusiasm, willingly joining him to become a partner in setting up the delicate spiderweb for his prey. The fly was already trapped, but it did not know it yet. Despite the grim nature of his goal, he couldn't help but to experience satisfaction from the cooperation which would tie them together even more strongly.. making their paths which had for so long drifted in their separate directions to intersect again, a thing which would hoperfully become more and more common in the future.

They had come a long and stormy way together, but all the trivialities of life had prevented them from fulfilling the most precious of their dreams. But on that beach, he had shared his dream with her, finally bringing down the barriers made of sorrow and disappointment of past that had enclosed her heart. Of course, he was not immune to the sorrow and pain either... but as they had sat on the beach, in silent agreement, he knew that life had finally overcome the sorrows of death. It was time for their dreams to become reality. A new life.

Soon, they would have to put everything into motion. It was time for him to crawl from her comfort, to send a letter..
