The Diary of Philip Farefield

Post by Irania »

-strictly insight into the character-

It had been five days since Philip had arrived on Gobaith. So far he found most of it quite boring. The people seemed rather wrapped up in their own lives and none to keen on helping out this stranger of a man who came to their lands. Was it strange that he was seeking out companionship? Apparently so for his efforts thus far had prevailed useless. Now he found himself sitting alone outside the shop of what he thought to be the the capitol of the isle itself, knowing in his head what was going on within yet seeing that no one else had a clue as to what he was thinking and feeling. In his hands he held a book, just bought from a merchant on his passage overseas. It's pages clean and empty, ready to be told the secrets of one mans life.

So, things had changed. Not all of the inhabitants of the island were uncaring. Perhaps Philip had even made a mistake in judging them in such a way. He of all people knew better then to judge before finding out who someone truely was. After all, is that not one of the reasons he needed to start over? Now Liles...here was someone he really wanted to know. Inside and out. Of course this mean pushing away his front, dropping his wall. Then again, Philip was ready to do that.

The night began slowly, like all the rest had. Hopeful and yet not too hopeful, Philip wandered across the grass thinking not of the past but of the future. One that looked as promising as a sunrise. And isn't that what sunrises are? Beginnings. Just as this was the beginning of a love that would never grow old. There are things in life that just never do.

The young writer sat down upon the grass by the river, holding his lute in his hands. The day had indeed been a long one full of many different emotions. Though he had troubles earlier, he found himself content to sit and write. A song perhaps, one of looking to the future and seeking to triumph over it's many obstacles. Maybe a poem about the living dead walking the planes of the mortal realm. The creativity, he could feel, was all around him along with the inspiration he needed.. All that needed to be done was sit and watch and wait. It would come to him.

After wiping his hands off on his shirt, Philip withdraws his leatherbound journal from his bag, along with his ink and quill. Then night had been a rather long one filled with much physical labor. Rubbing his cheek with his fingertips, Philip realizes how badly he needed a bath. After all, he had been underground for some hours now hard at work. At least he did before he saw Liles. Dismissing the thought, he dips his quill into the bottle of ink and begins to write.

Philip withdraws his writing impliments from his bag and sets them down on the table. He turns the pages in his journal to a blank one and stares at it for some moments. Well, it's been a a long while since i've written. Sadly i've not got much to write... He dips the quill into the ink and beings to commit his thoughts onto the page.

Philip sat down by the door and opened his journal, only by the small beam of light from under it could he see what he had written and opened to a new page. His ink was running low and his spirits had dwindled into practically nothing. No one had so much as knocked on his door to see if he was even alive in days. Not that they needed to. If they could not hear his calls for help then they must be deaf. His voice however had grown weaker from slight malnutrition. He simply did not have it in him to waste what little energy he had left. Conserving the food he had was one of his main priorities at the moment. Something which too soon would dwindle down into nothing. Where would he be then other than left for dead?

Philip came through the western doors with an usure gait and a somber expression. His look was always the same of late. Just somber. Somber and weary. It was time he came back and tried to make things right in his life. Of course that was only because he knew that without his true love, things never would be right. Only his journal knew the pain he really felt inside. The pain of his lost love.

After many months of solitude outside the walls of Trollsbane, Philip decides it's time to return to what he would call home and hear the news. There hadn't been much of a change and nothing too much to speak of for that matter. Which is actually a good thing, and along with the good news Philip finally opens his journal again and begins to write.

Philip sits under a cherry tree, journal in hand, and looks over at the sleeping Jyllian. It was his turn to keep watch and this time he would let her sleep later than she should for he had done it to him just the night before. Their friendship had begun suddenly and because of their equal thirst for the ability to protect what each holds dear it gave them the opportunity to partner find that ability together.

Philip paced along the riverbank west of the inn, every once in a while glancing at Jyllian, who fished quietly not far from him. They had spoken to Taliss earlier in the day and had actually been accepted as recruits of the town guard. Although for a moment they had been disappointed to learn that they would not be allowed to join unless they were citizens of the town. Philip though this was crazy. Just because his name was not on some list he was not a true citizen? In the end though it all worked out. They both would be put on the list very soon.

As the moon shone high in the sky and the stars burned brightly as it's companions, not all things seemed to magical. Philip found himself facing an internal dilemma. To move on, or to dwell upon a past that he felt safe in. There are many times one has to make decisions over the course of a lifetime yet none seem so difficult as the ones pertaining to the heart.

It had been quite a day for Philip. Jyllian and he had trained till they could barely stand, and he, without hesitation, professed his affections for someone. It would be only one of a few times he had done so, and would not be the last time that he was rejected. After all, he had seen what the men of Gobaith sought, and male companionship was not in their sights.
