Age descriptors needed

Post by Banduk »

Die Synonyme für das Alter eines Chars im lookAt wurden bemängelt. Leider gibt es keine Vorschläge, wie es besser geht.
The synonyms for the age description in lookAt were criticized. Sad to say there are no proposals for better.

Derzeit verwenden wir die folgenden (Alter bezogen auf Menschen):
Currently we use the following (age based on human):

Code: Select all

< 14	sehr junge	very young
14-18	junge	young
18-25
25-35	erwachsene	grown up
35-45	mittelalte	in midlife
45-55	etwas ältere	elderly
55-70	alte	old
 > 70	sehr alte	very old

Seems like a rough task, given that past teenagers there aren't exactly many definite guidelines in the real world to go by, except for maybe when someone retires.
Some alternatives:
<13 Child
13-18 Teenager
19-30 young adult
31-40 adult
41-60 middle aged
61-100 elderly
100+ Near death Or Ancient

Going by more modern terms and modern standards of age and health, as even if it is a medieval world, magic and alchemy and such that would make it possible for humans to live much longer does exist in place of modern medicine. Plus modern standards may be more easy for players using the lookat to understand.

Of course, the age grouping the illarion homepage uses for characters who hide their age has never made sense to me, but it may be just as good to copy that one and leave the complaints about it to whoever made that? :P

100+ not Babies or Childs

100 by elves = 18 by Human

So you can not really say that elves say that 100 are Babies or Childs if they let Elves in this age run alone around in the world.

But yes it is difficult to find age description.

I think it is strange now, how one wants to see an elf that he is middle-aged or old.

By the way, some disctiption are stranges.

Exampel.

How would look a magic person? If she or he have now mage things on her ( no wand, no magic book and others like this)

Last time i see : "You see a middleage magic Elf"

Ehm what? :?

I don't think elves should have age descriptions because they are supposed to have a youthful appearance unless otherwise rp' d

@Lia, I thought 180 years was the equivalent of 18 human years, maybe I am mistaken I forget where I saw that

"Be that as it may, Elves do not reach majority until they are 180 years old. " http://illarion.org/illarion/races/us_elves.php

So if 18 years is when humans in illarion are considered as coming of age, then yes.

So far 18 for human is another value for dwarves, another for elves ... .

The question was:
What text do you want to see for an ogre with an age of x to y where if the ogre was a human x would be 18 and y would be 25.
Replace ogre with any race.

Even feel free to set up a race specific description.

The only thing we will not do is showing in lookAt "She is a 2564 years olf elfess."

for elfs maybe:
  • 0-500 -rather young
  • 500 - 3000 -nothing
  • 3000 - eternity -rather old

With...
<13 Child
13-18 Teenager
19-30 young adult
31-40 adult
41-60 middle aged
61-100 elder
100+ ancient
...as a base for humans, I'd keep the description and simply set a multiplyer for each race. As elves seem to be the hot topic, they'd get a factor of 10... or even 20.

Isn't this already a descriptor on the website? For example, I know some elves are referred to as 'timeless'. It might be easiest just to match them up with what is already on the website.

More importantly, why are we forcing that sort of description in the game? There is a wide variety of how old people appear.
