Information on socketing magical gems

Dear all,
here are some hints on socketing magical gems:
  • If you find a magical gem, "use" it (double click) and you can socket it into any weapon
  • The gem grants a bonus on the damage the weapon deals.
  • You can socket one gem of each kind, so you can socket a maximum of six gems into each weapon
  • Magical diamonds should not exist in the game, if they do that is a bug
  • In each town, you can find a magical blacksmith that "combines" your magical gems to a higher level or removes gems from an item
  • To craft a gem with a higher level, the magical blacksmith requires three gems of the same type and level
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Liebe Illarioniten,
Hier sind einige Hinweise zum Benutzen der magischen Edelsteine:
  • Wenn Ihr einen magischen Edelstein finden, könnt Ihr ihn mit einem Doppelklick in die Waffe "Sockeln.
  • Ein magischer Edelstein gewährt einen Bonus auf den Schaden der Waffe.
  • Man kann von jedem magischen Edelstein einen in eine Waffe stecken, also maximal 6 Edelsteine in jeder Waffe.
  • Die magischen Diamanten sollten noch nicht im Spiel vorkommen. Falls doch so ist dies ein Bug.
  • In jeder Stadt finden Ihr einen magischen Schmied, welcher die magischen Edelsteinen auf eine höhere Ebene aufwerten kann. Er kann außerdem Edelsteine aus Gegenständen entfernen.
  • Um einen Edelstein mit höherem Level herzustellen benötigt man drei gleiche Edelsteine vom selben Typ und Level.
Does that mean that there are no differences between gems? A rank 1 topaz grants +2% as does a rank 1 sapphire?
In principle(!), yes. The level 1 topaz gives +1%, not +2% ;-).
In detail: There is a difference in the "rareness" of the gems. This means that you get more amethysts than emeralds. Once you have the complete set socketed, you get a set bonus of an additional +6%. Diamonds currently do not count for they are useless. This means: Five different level 1 gems give you +5% (not much). If you add the 6th missing gem, you get +12%. That's quite a difference, eh? Since some gems are more rare, they are the ones you usually "miss" for your set and hence, their "felt impact" is much higher.
Consider this like collecting cards; once you have them all, you win. You need every single one, but some are very common and you have 10 duplicates. You will always consider the missing rare card the most valuable one, even though it is just a card like every other you need to complete your deck.
Will it change? I liked the old system in with each gems effected something different.
You say it works for weapons, and armor is planned, but how about crafting tools as well as rings?
Nope. One reason for this is the lack of proper (!) ideas what effects they shall have. Increasing quality, lowering crfating times are no real a big bonus (for sure not if you have a high skill). If you have ideas, you are welcome to share them (on Mantis! :P)
The questions is...when will our characters know this information? e.g book?
I guess I could write it in English, just need a basic template of what the staff wants.
Actually lowering crafting time, for any level crafter, would be a great bonus ^_^ Cakes take forever to make even at a high level, so Im sure its the same for other crafts as well.
A special color bonus for just magical gems in items might be interesting, possibly needing a "full" set for one of the higher levels in a town, for fighters an increase in magical resistance for an armor would have everyone scrambling for it.
for crafting tools, something that increases the durability of the tool would be nice. getting a set of carving tools i can use 10x longer than normal would definatly be something i go and repair instead of replacing
For clarification ...
If someone has 1 level 1 gem socketed that = 1% damage
If someone has 1 level 2 gem that = 2%
and so on?
and that can be done for all 6 types?
Yes and they all stack. Six different level 3 gems: 6x3%=18% plus 18% set bonus -> +36% - massacre ahead!
This is currently not desired, I think. Tools are something that should be purchased regularly. I understand a person having a favorite hammer or pickax or something, but we want you to spend money. Spend spend spend! Keep those NPCs or crafting players you purchase from in business!
I still think making magic gems in tools reduce the time it takes to craft things would be awesome. :3
How does this contribute to the topic in any way? We were on the topic of crafting tools. Other than this, it was also obvious I was talking about crafting tools, as people has and will refer to the armors and weapons, as armors and weapons. If you want to take part in the topic, perhaps make a somewhat useful comment that is at least relevant to the topic? Making comments like that is just spamming the topic.
How to find a magical gem?
What's the use of tax? It was said it influences the magic gems somehow.
I've gotten them two ways so far:
1) Very small chance of getting one from gathering (I got one getting grapes, for example)
2) Some more challenging quests will reward them
Party boss monsters like the dragons, demon archmage, drow leader, dead king, or lich? I haven't got magic gems from them yet =( I assume they are just really rare?
