That lag!

Post by Silo »

So. I've been experiencing some intolerable lag. D: It's not too awful, but enough that it makes me afraid to do anything combat-related ingame, and slows down any RPing I do. I'm unsure as to whether it's my computer or the server that's causing it. This just started happening about 3 weeks ago. I've never had any problems prior. And, I've got a damn fine computer.
Matt's Computer wrote:Processor: Intel Core i7
RAM: 6 gigs DDR3
Graphics: Radeon HD 4880 (<--Problem? Never has been, before.)
Harddrive: ~2 TB, 1 TB free (Client's kind of only 2 KB)
OS: Windows Vista (64 bit)

According to Speakeasy.net and Pingtest.net:

Download speed: 20 MB/s (Assuming it'd be half this for distance to Germany. Maybe less. Probably less)
Upload speed: 4.2 MB/s (Ditto)
Packet loss: 0% (To a server in Nuremburg, Germany)
Ping: 126 ms (To a server in Nuremburg, Germany)
Updated graphics drivers, rebooted PC, shaken computer violently, and added some duct tape. Nothing seems to work, so far. Lag gets worse when I open my bag, and it's even worse when there's a lot of items in it.

So. Ideas? Or... is it the server?

/thanks.

Logfile. I had a similar problem. Try backing your logfile up and deleting the old one.

Until more help arrives, try deleting Illarion in the java console and redownloading the game after updating java if you haven't done so. I am assuming you went over this thread also for Window Vista problems http://illarion.org/community/forums/vi ... =3&t=22146 yet not sure how new that information is.

Yeah, I've updated my ATI graphics drivers, which is supposed to (moderately well) support OpenGL. I know nVidia's better for OpenGL support, but meh. Radeon will have to do.

How do I delete something in the java console, though?

Sorry, don't know Vista but in XP you go to control panel, see the cup for java, open up the temporary internet files after clicking on java then click view and you will see the Illarion client. Just delete that.

Are you using a 64bit Java or 32bit?

In any case you should use 32bit. The 64bit is ALOT slower then the 32bit version.

Even when I've a 64-bit system? I thought running 32bit on a 64 makes it unstable. Like earthquakes.

No specific references.

No 32-bit application run on windows 64bit just as stable as 64bit applications as windows contains both cores, 32bit and 64bit.

Java on the other hand has a very early 64-bit support and lots of problems exspecially with memory management. That results in a slow and unstable behaiviour of the 64-bit java.
This maybe changes with Java 7, but as this new version is not out yet, I suggest sticking with the 32bit version for now.
