Consistantly Crashing

Post by Ezor Edwickton »

My Illarion client consistantly crashes without fail. It seems to be getting worse and worse all the time. First it was just every once in a while, but now it is aaaall the time, and in shorter intervals.

Are there any known problems for this? My internet works great otherwise for any other applications so I don't think it is that. I'm sure with the VBU this problem won't persist, but is there a known fix now?

Did you try the usual magic of:

1. Updating Java
2. Reinstalling client (Run> javaws -viewer OR 'javaws -viewer' in terminal - uninstall from there)
3. Updating your graphics card drivers?

Thanks for the help, but I tried all that and still crash all the time. It seems to be cutting my whole internet.

Interenet crashing is not a good sign.

Check for intrusive firewalls or malware I think. If the internet drops obviously ilarion is going to stop working.

Are you sure it isn't that your internet is crashing so you're losing connection and illarion is therefore crashing, rather than illarion causing your internet to crash?

Ok, the problems seems to be my D-link DI-624 router. I unplugged it and when direction from the modem to the computer and have had no problem for the last few days. The problem is I still need a wireless connection around the house. D-link tech support sucks, so does anyone have any suggestion? or just go buy a new router? (not another D-link :x)

Seems it may be that router, I did a quick google search and even in newegg feedback people who bought them speak of them losing signal after a while one person called it disposable.

Not sure what would make it drop out unless your trying to run two machines and one is conflicting with the other do to a bad network setting.

Sorry to break the bad news..

As for types you have to do some research and pick the one that suits you. Be it linksys or another brand.

I also have a D-Link router and I also had some random disconnects from the WiFi network. My solution was to change the WiFi channel - interferences with another WiFi network at my place seemed to cause the trouble. You can change stuff such as the channel when you connect to your router (http://192.168.0.1/, default user is admin and password blank - unless you changed something there).

I use channel "6" ;-).

Thanks for the idea, but I have no idea how to do what you just said. Plus where I live there are no other WiFi networks anywhere near by.
I talked to a guy from my internet provider, and he said he had a problem with his d-link and he said set it up again, but don't name the connection.
I tried calling D-link but they want me to pay for customer service. Yeah, right! I'll buy a new router before that.

So it now looks like there is more to the problem then just the router. I've been running the computer for for over a week without the router and the problem did seem to be getting better. Without being on consistently for long periods of time it's hard to tell, and I just haven't been able to be on for extended periods lately.

All this is to say that the game is still crashing. But here is the interesting part. When the game freezes I hit refresh on the illarion page, and I am not able to connect to the illarion main site or the forum for up to several minutes. During this time other sites work fine and up to speed. So during this time there is something wrong with the connection with my computer and Illarion only. The internet connection as a whole is still good and strong, it is just with the illarion client, and sites that I am having trouble staying with.

My thoughts are that maybe it's my firewall? I'm using BitDefender. The only problem with this theory is that it does still let illarion through, I'm only getting disconnected periodically and with no messages from the anti virus.

Any thoughts/Ideas? Please help, this makes playing the game very frustrating at times. I'm tired of logging back on and trying to catch up.

Don't have much to offer but I'm having EXACTLY your same problem. Illarion client freezes up. I cannot connect to the Illarion website either. Every other website/internet application works perfectly. It's been happening within the past few days/weeks, and more consistently lately. It's nearly impossible to play. About every 5+ minutes I crash and cannot connect to the website for a few minutes.

Ok whatever the problems is it is defiantly not my computer or internet connection. I'm using a completely different computer from and entirely different internet connection and the same problem occurs only much much more frequently. First it would crash every few minuets, then i managed to keep logged in for about 20 min approximately.

Here is a copy of my error log

Don't you have a file in your Illarion directory called "error"?

Yes, see my previous post before last. That is the error log from the computer I am currently on. I could get the one from the other, but it is pretty long, and probably looks the same.

Just another update. It seems that the site will drop on it's own every 4 or 5 min, the game doesn't even have to be running. I know this sounds really bizarre, and it's just this site, everything else runs fine during the down time.

Does it even make sense that that should happen? :?

All I can say is that "socket write error" indicates that you lost connection to the Illarion server. Maybe this is not due to your connection but due to vilarions recent maintance activities. He had some downtime the last few weeks, but nothing frequently.

Just curious... Ezor, where in Canada are you from? I'm also from Canada, specifically living in Toronto, and I'm having your exact same problems. My internet works for everything else, but every 5 minutes or so I cannot connect to the Illarion website, and also, the Illarion client freezes up and crashes every couple of minutes or so as well, in the same manner as you explained. This does seem to have began to happen after those updates, but it's happening a lot more frequently now. Although it's a shot in the dark, are you living in Toronto? And even if not, could it have something to do with our location, or perhaps the updates?

I'm going to have to blame this one one the Illarion server. It seems to be the only common denominator here.
