Unable to find screen display mode: 1024x768 at 32

Post by keyboardbandit »

I get the following error when I try to log in:

Unable to find screen display mode: 1024x768 at 32

I get this error after I enter my character name, and my password. After I get this error the client just closes out. I am running the latest Ubuntu operating system.

With some google-fu, I read that changing the color depth might help... I'm running my color depth at 24bit right now. Should it be at something different?

PS. I think this forums Search feature is broken... When I searched for this problem, I saw topics like "How are you feeling" and "What are you listening to"

You should be running in 24 bit on your linux system, Windows uses 32 bit.

Hope that helps

I'm sorry, what I ment to say was that it is at the default 24-bit right now... But I still don't really understand what the error is referring to... My laptop's display is set to: 1024x600 24-bit color depth.

What your telling me is that the notebook you have has a resolution of only 1024x600, The game needs high a higher resolution of 1024 x 768. Try running it in windowed mode and see what happens.

Edited} If you know how to configure the Xorg file try adding in to it 1024x 768 plus your screens refesh rate. the only problem with that is if your Notebook is to old or doesn't support that resolution it will hide parts of the screen like buttons and stuff at the bottom, tops and sides.

I don't know much about Ubunto on a notebook, I run a Gentoo linux desktop system. but run a windows Xp to play.

It there a way to reduce the resolution from 1024x768? I tried to run it in windowed mode, but that didn't fix the problem, and it seems that my monitor is unable to display 1024x768.

Try to change the colors from 16bit to 32.

I have tried to change the color from 32 to 24 to 16, but each time it still says:

"Unable to find screen display mode: 1024x768 at 32/24/16"

So I guess that the problem is the screen resolution, but my netbook doesn't have the hardware to run at 1024x768. Is there any way to run the game in a lower resolution?

Nope, you can't change the resolution of the game. You'll have to find some way of changing the resolution of the screen.

The only thing you can do is using a virtual larger resolution using desktop panning.

Google will help you to get this working. The windowed mode will work then. How ever the fullscreen mode won't work ever.

Well, I managed to force my monitor to display 1024x768... but I still get the same error. For the life of me I can not figure out what the problem is!

Is the colour the illarion client set to use equal to the colour the system uses?
