Quite an annoying problem. (Illarion Freezing?)

Post by Tinuva Geogroda »

Well hello everyone there ;)

As some of you might know, I used to be here about a year ago too. I took an illa-break then, but I'm now some sort of back.

Unfortunatly now I have a problem with the Illarion Client.
I think that a year ago I used to play on my old pc, but I'm not quite sure.

The problem that I have is: Like once or twice every 10-15 minutes my client sort of freezes; I can still move the mouse, but it doesn't react on my commands (it wont let me move my character, use items) and it doesn't show chat messages for the time being. After a few minutes (1-5 minutes) everything becomes normal again and I see all the chat messages from the past 1-5 minutes I missed and if I tried to move my character in those 1-5 minutes it will move then.

This happens quite often, and it's really annoying with roleplaying. But it does seem my actions I do while my client is 'frozen' (trying to move my character etc.) go to the server. Because when I close the client and open it up again, and my character was frozen looking < that way, in the freeze I pressed the > arrow then my character does look > way and moved one tile to the right when I log in again.

Hope anyone knows a solution for this; my PC specifications are:

FOXCONN Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 x2 5000+ Dual Core processor
2048Mb RAM Memory
nVidia GeForce 8500GT 512Mb Video Card

With:
Windows XP SP2
11mbit/s internet connection

I had similar problems, then I realised that it was my ISP's fault, the internet used to just die for 30 seconds or so, and the client didn't like that.

Are you sure this is not happening to you?

Yeah but I never had the problem on my old PC. For my not the whole client freezes but only the world doesn't move anymore and it doesn't show messages. I could right-click on an item and then click 'examine' but it just wont show the examination then, untill it's unfrozen after several minutes.

that problem is caused by a bug in the graphic engine we are using (lwjgl)

Sadly its currently not possible to fix it.

You're possibly new Martin, either way, welcome to Illarion. You'll find that the staff are generally pretty helpful around here as the community is rather small and tightly knit together.

As for the topic, I'm not sure if this help, but I've noticed a regular pattern of freezing up when I'm picking up fruits.

It's not the only time it happens, but amongst others, it seems to trigger the freeze sometimes.

I can verify that I crashed today while picking fruits and it seemed to happen just as I started collecting.

I just crashed while cutting entrails. Not sure if it has anything to do.

Usually when I crash, it is when I am:

Picking fruit.
Smelting.
Sawing.

The timing of it seems somewhat random when it happens to me, and it may or may not be related.. just thought I would throw it out there.

Is this even helping anyone?

Okay, so lets see...

We can't cast magic...
We can't craft...
We can't fight...

Soooo... We deal with the crashes, pretend they don't exist, and try really hard to avoid conflict! Thats a good fix!
