A topic I've been wanting to make for a while. I'm sure a few of us out there happen to be book worms and enjoy a good story.

Please no news articles. Audio books are fair game.

Reading: Brandon Sanderson - Oathbringer (Stormlight Archive Book 3)

On Audio: Ernest Cline - Ready Player One

Bill Bryson - A Walk in the Woods
  • A book about an (attempted) go at the Appalachian Trail. It kinda confirms American sterotypes. Its a fun read, too.
Bernhard Hennen - DSA: Das Jahr des Greifen
  • For (RL-Pen&Paper) GM-preparation. An adventure/campaign book as old as I am, which it seems everyone except me has played. I hate the way of gm-ing encouraged in there, but the story and adventure itself is neat.
It also has been adapted into a proper novel by Hohlbein, which I might give a look once I am through the pile of unread books next to my nightstand.

So since we are sharing things we read, I suppose I can share something a little bit less traditional that I'm very passionate about.
For the past two years or so I've been addicted to Chinese and Korean web-novels (translated to English, of course).
Some are more western themed (magic, elements, spells) while most are eastern themed (cultivation of "ki/qi" energy, buddishm, daoism, alchemy).
In any case, since it is less traditional it may not fit everyone's taste, but I highly recommend giving them a try (plus they are 100% free to read and most of the translations on the site I will link down below are excellent in quality).

Right now I'm reading books like "desolate era" and "overgeared", the first being an eastern type of book translated from Chinese, the latter being a western type book based on virtual gaming translated from Korean. Both are currently incomplete, though. New chapters are released almost every day, think of it like how tv-series release episodes weekly. That's basically what separates a novel and a webnovel.

Two complete books I've read that I recommend people to give a try:

Warlock of the Magus World: (Introduction from author and translator in link)
More western themed, about a scientist who reincarnates into a magicians world.
http://www.wuxiaworld.com/wmw-index/

Coiling Dragon: (Introduction from author and translator in link)
More eastern themed, but often called the "entry level novel" for eastern themed books, as it still has some more western themes present such as elemental magic.
http://www.wuxiaworld.com/cdindex-html/

Some things may seem a bit odd, or even childish, at first, but that's mostly due to cultural differences. Like how in China, "face" (the respect people show for you and your status) is a lot more important than it is in the western world. A plus to reading them is the translators often leave tidbits or explanations, like an explanation about why "face" is so important in China, in the footnotes with insights about certain scenes, giving us westerners a view into chinese/korean culture.

I needed a new audio book and forgot that I had been meaning to eventually listen to this (it is read by the author). Thanks for the reminder. :D

Finishing up Dracula by Bram Stoker. Have a few books I look at, A Treatise on White Magic by Alice A. Bailey and also (I received this as a gift btw) The Satanic Bible by Anton Szando LaVey, I also have a translated copy of The Poetic Edda, the heroic poems, from Scandinavian myth. I also read the bible of course.

Most definitely! I just finished Oathbringer yesterday. I think with that I have read all of his released Cosmere books. Still haven't gotten to his YA series yet.

OMG!!!!! Tale of the Malazan Book of the Fallen is arguably one of the best epic fantasy series I have ever read. Steven Erikson is amazing! I hope you read the whole series. It only gets better, sadder at times but that is what draws you in.

As for me I am reading a teenager book I guess but I am liking it. I am on book four of The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare.

For any fantasy nerds out there my other favorite authors:

R.A. Salvatore - The Dark Elf series and every other series he has.
Terry Goodkind - The Sword of Truth series
Robert Jordan - The Wheel of Time series ( Which Brandon Sanderson wrote the final book when Robert died. Dantagon! )
Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman - Dragons of Autumn Twilight (Any fantasy nerd who reads this one book will have to read them all. You have been warned!)

I just finished up "Ocean at the End of the Lane" by Neil Gaiman.
Am about to start "Artemis" by Andy Weir
Flint Stoneside wrote: Robert Jordan - The Wheel of Time series ( Which Brandon Sanderson wrote the final book when Robert died. Dantagon! )
Yeah, he got picked to finish the series. He actually completed the last 3 books in the series. Some of them were mere paragraph additions, some were whole chapters, and finally the last book. Wheel of Time is on my eventual to read list. A list that tends to get longer daily, and even more so as I add books on here to it.

Finished: Meddling Kids by Edgar Cantero
- Think Scooby Doo meets H.P. Lovecraft. Writing style is interesting at times and jumps between being prose and a movie script, but Lovecraft fans will probably enjoy the mythos.
Starting: The Dream-Quest of Vellitt Boe by Kij Johnson
- Also based on H.P. Lovecraft's mythos, the imagery in it is beautiful.

Madeleine L'Engle - A Wrinkle in Time

Sad to say it took only 2 days to read, but in september the second part will be published.

PS I'm quite sure things like that will be reality one day, and Illa was a small cobblestone on the way to.
PPS I should reread Tad Williams Otherland.

Didn't think to post this earlier. These were the 100 most loved books in the USA. Something to consider for what book you plan to read next.
