Reasonable gossip

I see alot of crap stirring ingame about other characters. Alot of lies that can cause annoying problems for a player just wanting to play, but! It's a roleplaying game, subject to the plots of derisive and cowardly characters that have very different ideas. This is cool.. sometimes.

Not what I'm seeing. I'm seeing alot of lies told to characters that are newer about other chars to sway what they choose to do. There lies about things that could make it very hard to play the game afterward (like people being called followers of beings they aren't followers of, or having cool fantasy world beliefs ((we're not in modern times, so modern ideals have no place >.>)) that are blown out of proportion. or.. just blatant lies). And lets not get into the reality mixing. A cultist is not a cultist in real life, a womanizer is not a womanizer in real life, hell just because they are a man or woman ingame doesn't mean it is so in real life! So gossiping about a person you know nothing about is just malicious.

What I want to say is... Stop the gossip war, it's not fun. It makes new chars confused as to whats really happening, and it's just annoying as a player to find out six different lies you've been told or have been told about your char. It's not cute, it's just really, really annoying and hurtful some other players not just chars.

I think there should be some real cracking down of the crime of Slander ig. These are actions ig, so it's up to those affected to take it up ig.

It's exhausting I agree, and sometimes annoying.
But as long as one separates ooc from ic, it is perfectly fine.

Is it? Seems like there's 90% gossip and 10% backing it up. And where does the ooc discrepency start? Are the ig lies for ooc reasons even partially and then excused later by a char's wants or goals? Whats with knights and ladies being all holier than thou than lying their tongues off? I feel like thats unfit and confusing. Lying for politics or in moderation is cool and fun, lying about all the people you don't like ingame and out isn't.

Just because the personality types play the chars doesn't mean the chars should lie so much too. :D

Whatever happened to Slander being an actual crime in these days

Just trying to gain some understanding here:
Are you complaining about characters saying stuff about other characters or players talking about other players negatively based on their characters?

If it's something between characters IG then it's a part of the RP and should be dealt with IG. It's not always fun as a player to know that bad stuff is being said about your character but unfortunately such thing is nearly impossible to prevent. It's important to separate yourself from your character and not take things, that were directed at characters, personally as a player.

 rakust...

Edit: "Reasonable gossip" is an oxymoron if I ever heard one!

These days as in what exactly?
Illarion may resemble medieval times, but it is a separate world with a different history than ours.
Modern ideals do have a place because history in Illarion has shaped it to be as such.
There are still societies like Albar in Illarion with what we would call "old-fashioned" beliefs, such as sexism, but there are also societies of elves who have lived for thousands of years.
There is magic, there is alchemy, many different races and many other differences.
Just because Illarion has the technology of our worlds medieval time, does not mean it has to be otherwise similar.

Gossip in game is gossip in game, and whatever consequences there will be, they will be IG. Slander has always been a thing, especially during power-feuds such as fights among nobility.
The exception is when OOC is involved. Say, someone slandering another due to an OOC grudge or someone using information obtained through OOC means to slander someone.

Either way, you seem to have some specific scenarios in mind. If they are in game, they should be dealt with IG, but judging by you writing:
And where does the ooc discrepency start? Are the ig lies for ooc reasons even partially and then excused later by a char's wants or goals?
Then contact a CM about it to clear things up, if you suspect ooc to be involved. Achae would be the one for the English players to contact.

None of these things pertain to me, yet as an observer I'm commenting. I find these things frustrating as I enjoy Illarion for what it is.

Really I just hoped that someone would take it to heart and maybe check themselves. Sowing unnecessary animosity for malicious intent ruins fun. So in light of this in case I'm doing nothing more than stirring trouble myself, then my message is across and I've nothing more to say.

As others have said, in game is in game and there are lots of times when a character can be slandered and gossiped about. Some actually enjoy it...I have no idea how many times one of my characters has been gossiped about.

If this is something carried to ooc or out of character however, and player to player feel free to contact me. We can make an attempt to work something out.

If out of game.. some players may fully enjoy it in game as they play their character... :)

And if you are suggesting this in game gossip is being pulled to ooc I wish to remind people you are not your character. The character may be the worst personality ever, selfish, mean, a gossip etc etc but that does NOT mean the player is. Sometimes we enjoy playing characters completely opposite of ourselves.

Ask that ingame ;)
As others have said before, if the gossip is spread ingame, it is in an ingame matter. You could take that as an opprtunity to have your character complain about it and ask for laws against it.
