Gm power action

Post by Ohiyesa »

Gm silverwing said he was able to teleport a character by having a flask? attached to a crossbow bolt fired across 2 screens. Ok aside from the unappealing reason (a flask really?) it makes for poor gameplay that 1. there is no chance given for any RP in response (the bolt is a homing missile with instantaneous teleport) 2. there is no chance given for a different outcome. Even with RPGs like Baldur's gate where you play with a computer intelligence there is more than 1, usually 4 or 5 options to choose from as an outcome for any given roleplaying scenario. Especially where the outcome is significant there should be a choice otherwise isn't it forced rp. It is more interesting and enjoyable when one is able to affect one's destiny through choosing, and different options allow for different ways to change the plot (highly appealing) and customize a character (the essence of rp).

The NPCs of a town, specially the leaders and guards are very powerful and have overpowered abillitys. One of these abillities is to jail chars instant, no matter how they rp it. In runewick the guard would just magically teleport you. In any case it is a much more harmless&creative way to punish ppl as to kill them (and jail them at the cross).

Anyway you have the option to send complains to GM-abuse http://illarion.org/community/us_contact.php?contact=4

Well, in this case, I'm not sure if the character would have even been wounded not to mention killed and jailed at the cross. If it was accomplished through those means, I would have no complaint. Although, once you are jailed are there different options for Rp? Is there a way to be rescued or to escape? That would be engaging and interesting.

If your char got imprisoned, it usually means your character has gotten himself into an area of influence where he acted against ingame law.
You can usually avoid that by staying elsewhere and avoid "official" characters of such a fraction. If you don't, well, own fault.
If someone however fled from prison, well, he'll end up in prison again (and possibly longer too) whenever he runs across said town officials again. So i'm not sure if you as a player would even want that.
However, if your char "works off" the punishment or debt, that's usually a way to restore his "legal state" in that faction. He may loose his rank (and in bad cases perhaps even citizenship) but regain freedom without the risk to get imprisioned again later.
So, no need to complain. You have a chance there. ;)

My honest suggestion Ohi, pay careful attention to the chars that are trying to give yours options, there have been many. Your char chose his own path and well, ended up where he didn't want to be.

On another note, if you don't want gm tom-foolery, just avoid whatever gm you are having trouble with, because they will continue what they're doing regardless of what you report or complain about, a respectful distance and respect of the rp ig will keep things to a minimum.

I agree that this was force rp as are banning npcs, but these things will never be fixed, the staff are very adamant in their decisions. Good news is eventually the crappy banning npcs will be replaced with a fully active npc Guard monsters because we're not responsible enough as players to set up our own guards or militarys :D
