Tutorial Videos

Post by Salathe »

I am going to begin creating some simple tutorial videos to allow players to visually see mechanics of the game. I'm starting with a basic controls video and then I want to make a video that shows how to *start off* in every craft. So I need knowledge from everyone to help since I only know smithing =) Please reply here or send me a PM with necessary tools and beginning or basic materials for each craft. Please note that we just want to cover how to get a player started, not all the secrets and best ways. If you see something that is wrong, or can think of something that is missing, please reply or send me a PM!

Basic Commands
Numpad movement
Ctrl to run
left alt to turn
WASD

Mouse movement
Cursor close to walk
Cursor far to run

Options menu
Error reports
Resolution
Sound

I for inventory
how to open your bag
moving windows
how to move items
how to equip items
how to split stacks
how depots work

Talking to NPCs
"help"
trading
selling
buying multiple items at the same time

Other
Right alt shows names
c for skills

-Mining/blacksmithing/goldsmithing/gemcutting
Necessary tools: Pickaxe (mining), Crucible Pincers (Smelting), Hammer (Smithing), Fine hammer (Finesmithing), Tongs (Gemcutting)
Static tools: Rocks (Mining), Smelting oven (Smelting), Anvil (Smithing/finesmithing), Gem Grinder ( Gemcutting)
Go to mine with pickaxe
different rocks yield different items
Smelting requires iron/copper/gold + coal

-shearing/leather/dye/tailoring

-digging/glassblowing

-woodcutting/carpentry

-herblore/alchemy

-baking/cooking/brewing

I'd like to help.
I could translate the text you say (as subtitles) or the video to german, but I'll need to know what you say. :)
But I guess the projekt is not so far, in it's current stadium.

Oh! Thats one other thing. I was going to speak for the english one, but its always best to have a female voice for these, so if anyone wants to narrate, let me know =). Translation of text is taken care of currently.

I would start with mouse movement, not keyboard movement. It's infinitely superior, doesn't depend on whether the chatbox is open, much easier to different between a run and a walk and to do precision movement.

I know a lot of you still use the keyboard because that's how you're used to using illa and you're stuck in your ways, but it really shouldn't be the primary method we suggest to players, when it's so unfluid. After like 2 days of using the mouse it was already better than the keyboard (as long as predictive walking is off).

I also really don't think we need a video showing "how to press i to open your inventory", "How to use an options menu". I'd say at max we need screenshots. Also, you can hold shift and click to turn your character round.

I take back everything I said, I would definitely watch a series of Rakust explaining how to do the most basic things ever in Illarion.
