Will there be wooden structures?! I've only recently realised all buildings in Illarion are stone. (Aside from doors/windows of course) Elves should have wooden houses, not stone ones surrounded in hedges :P

The brick and stone buildings have been improved and are looking really good, too. Much more variety in their appearance.

Does paperdolling apply to every race?

It is currently implemented for all races that are playable.

So human, elf, dwarf, lizard, orc and halfling characters/npcs/monsters will be paperdolled.
In theory also monsters can get paperdolling but there are simply no graphics yet. How ever the idea is that some monsters, for example skeletons or mummies get simple paperdolling with just a few times. So you could encounter a skeleton with a mace, or one with a sword or one with a badass armor. But its not certain if that will be working at the VBU or if it will be implemented later on.

I don't know about that hint system I'm seeing in the screenshot there. Sounds like something I'd rather find out in character. I wouldn't mind technical things like "Say 'Help' to an NPC to get a list of commands" or "Press F9 to look at the world map". That'd help Newbies.

And.. will there be shield bashing?! Hehehe..

The hints are just basically a direct replacement for those ridiculous log-in messages you currently get. Most of the information provided does cover technical elements (such as how to use NPCs). But there are some hints that cover what might be considered 'in-character' knowledge (like the one in the screenshots). I disagree that this is the sort of thing people should be learning through roleplay, though. The messages of this form are very general and only cover information that should already be known by a character. There really shouldn't be anyone who has to be taught that smacking the crap out of a large piece of metal with a giant hammer is going to have more of an effect upon it than trying to stab it with a dagger. Really, this can be seen as a technical hint, pointing players (especially older ones) to a fundamental change in the combat system. The game mechanic has changed, not the underlying facts of the world as known to the character. It is a cleaner way of saying that "Rock has always theoretically beaten scissors in the world of Illarion, but now there is a game mechanic which represents this."

Would a skeleton holding a mace actually use a mace or is it just for looks?

Did those weather effects by that one guy get implemented? You know, the guy that tried to sneak those swastika floor tiles in.

Paperdolling always requires the fitting item to be equipped at the character. So a skeleton that has a mace would use a mace. But as I said, paperdolling is not implemented yet for monsters.

There are currently no weather effects. They are work in progress ;)

Will there be cheese after the VBU?
Some people here would kill for cheese ... :D
A modified version of the cerry cake as cheese could be used as graphic.

I am not sure if it will be available directly when the VBU is started but wanted to mention that after the VBU, there will be plenty of opportunity for new items to be added as long as the graphic/scripts can be done.

Oh, thought of something. Will there be milk products? Like cheese, cheese cake, cream, etc? :o Oh and oranges? And jaffa cakes? :o
(Yes, all I want to know about the vbu is food related. Weird huh?)

There won't be cheese or yogurt with the VBU. A milk product cycle is currently not planned. However, as Achae pointed out, as soon as there are graphics and scripters, we can add such things after the VBU.

Screenshots of the new client will be shown once there is something new to show. At this moment, everyone can check out the new client and take a look at it himself/herself: http://illarion.org/development/us_npcs.php

Deutsche Zusammenfassung: Kein Käse zum VBU, danach aber gerne. Screenshots kommen später, bis dahin einfach mal selber den Client ausprobieren: http://illarion.org/development/de_npcs.php

~ Perhaps answered already?

I understand some items/weapons/tools will be done away with after the VBU as far as I have gathered. Is there possibly a list of those items? Being that some people have gemmed those items, I personally would hate to lose a gemmed item due to the item being altered or completely wiped out with the VBU.

Also, current treasure maps. Obsolete after VBU?
