Underground/dungeon maps

Post by PurpleMonkeys »

Here are two possible ways to do this..

A) Simply make the maps, so you can right click mini-map/ click F9 whenever you're underground

More preferably:
B) Create them, but make them purchasable.. and you could open them like scrolls, although they would be able to rot, and, as items, could be lost/stolen

((Hm, is that against the rules?))

Ever crawled an unknown tunnel-system in order to create an utile map in RL?

Yes. Yes it is

@ Original Proposal: I don't really see the point. "Hey let me walk through a place full of dangerous beings, draw it and sell it to other people who want maps of places full of dangerous beings.

The Graveyard isn't meant to be a tourist resort.

Huh?
Rule "keep each character's knowledge separate" but a map seems more for a player and not necessarily ig... I have been told my chars could exchange maps if needed... due to lost files etc. ages ago.

As for original proposal: Get a char to take you to the graveyard, much more fun.

I don't see why a character should suddenly have visited all the places another character has. I'd say its illegal based on the 'no information sharing' policy. But I'm not a GM.

Okay let's put it this way.

Illarion has so many landmarks that oocly you won't forget where things are anyway, I know the entire map off by heart and I'm sure every experienced player does too.

So what is the difference between displaying (or not displaying) something that is really already there? The client panel isn't IC, you're typing and commands are the only things IC. If you want to RP not knowing where the graveyard is, you can do that right?

So your argument is "Its impossible to not remember" ?

While I agree with most of your statements - you're not going to forget where Trollsbane is for example, remembering the path to the dragon in the cave, or other 'mazes' isn't something you're going to remember (unless you have it written down or PGed a lot).

The counter-argument of course, is that "If you know where everything is, you don't need the map"

Depends on how good your memory is. I remembered the path to the dragon cave after the first time I had been. (And still remember how to get there even though I haven't been for a year).

Yeah there's nothing in Illarion that's hard to remember. I can probably do the irundar water puzzle blindfolded.

On my first week I saw someone selling map files to people. Seems perfectly fine rp to me, it's just a map that your character holds, I don't see why you shouldn't be able to copy one out and sell it to someone.

Its not allowed to exchange the names or the map data of your characters.

How ever currently its possible and not detectable. But in future it will be impossible to exchange this data between characters.

If you make it so you can annotate your map I'll love you forever.
