Rule update / Regeländerungen

Post by Estralis Seborian »

This is a comparison of the new rules with the old rules. For further details, refer to the latest news.

1. Basic rule
The main goal of Illarion was condensed to one sentence. Cooperative interaction means e.g.:
  • Grant others time to type in conflict situations
  • Leave room for mistakes of others, commit mistakes by intention yourself
  • Do not try to win but try to display your character will all kinds of desires, mistakes, habits,...
  • Be responsive to other's roleplay
  • Conflicts of the characters must not become conflicts of the players. We're playing together, not against each other
2. Gamemaster
If a GM asks you for informations, you cannot refuse to testify.

3. The World
With this new rule, we want to carve in stone what was custom among GMs. Damien et. al. spent countless hours to describe the background of Illarion. If you want to deviate from the setting or play unsupported stuff, you have to contact a GM beforehand.

4. Insults
Religious hostile OOC-remarks are considered an insult.

5. Spamming
Abusing the engine to annoy other players with written or created messages is considered spamming. Note this rule applies analogously for the boards!

6. Names
No changes.

7. Out of character (OOC)
Illarion is not a chat room. Use MSN or such instead. Furthermore, usage of OOC-knowledge is not allowed. Also, the articulateness of your character should fit the setting of a medieval fantasy world. No more "hi you buy sword 1.5sp", please!

8. Emotes
No changes.

9. Considerateness
It is not allowed to play scenes, not suitable for minors on Illarion. This covers pornography, very strong/sexual/offensive language, and very strong/gore/disturbing violence.

10. Player killing
PvP is allowed, explicitly. It has to be considered a part of cooperative roleplaying, though.

11. Powergaming
The rule was made clearer and examples were added. Standing at a deserted place, covering the ocean with fireballs is definatly considered powergaming.

12. Multiple Characters
Characters of one player do not know each other and do not follow common goals.

13. Accounts and Characters
No changes.

14. Bugs
A common example was added.

15. Usage of Macros
No changes.

16. Hacking
Copyright clarified.

17. Forum
The rules of Illarion hold for the boards, analogously.

Punishment and Penalties
Board related violations usually result in restrictions to the board account. However, the game account can be affected as well.

_________________

6. Namen
Keine Änderungen.

7. Out of character (OOC)

About that powergaming rule... My character sometimes goes to the sea - watching out over the sea playing an instrument. Is that considered powergaming? I mean as I think my character enjoys watching the sea which gives him inspiration and so on and he also plays a bit while walking somewhere in the nature or simply sit down in the forest playing.

After all - train instrument mostly need to be on more deserted places since others easliy get mad on those playing instruments - especially when you are lousy in it.

Just want to know how to think about that. I guess it should be no problem since the instruments mainly are a fun thing as it is now and don't really gives any benifits, but still need to know for sure.

The gamemaster should prove he/she is a gamemaster before asking for information. This rule could be used by anyone to gain any kind of knowledge if they say I AM A GAMEMASTER YOU HAVE TO GIVE ME _______

Congratulations!
I appreciate these new rules very much - good job :-)

Yet, I indeed see a basic problem with the rules. It already was mentioned in some way by Hawkmoon:
As already discussed in another topic the current skill system is rather the opposite of what the new rules stand for.

Examples:
  • If I want to create a good warrior, I am forced to hang around close to spawn points of monsters, e.g. at the Gnolls or by the graveyard.
Else my Char never will become a good fighter - even not in 2 years of skilling when strictly following the rules.
  • The same is for learning playing music instrument. At the moment the skill system forces my character to go to a lonesome spot and train there my skill - and even then it takes ages to become better.
  • Smithing: Good armors need decend time to be smithed. Is this considered as PG as well?
 The skill system has to be adapted to the rules. Else the players will continue breaking rules all the time, simply because they are forced to by the engine.

- - -

Gratulation!

By the way ..

Trainieren bzw. Duellieren mit anderen Charakteren ohne rollenspielerischen Hintergrund
Andauerndes Herumlungern in der Umgebung eines Spawnpunktes ("Spawncamping")

Ein besonders schwererer Fall liegt vor, wenn der Spieler zusätzlich abwesend von seinem Computer ist ("away from keyboard", AFK), also seine Fertigkeiten trainiert, während er z.B. Wäsche aufhängt.

I appreciate those rules, but please tell me:

Why is a warrior allowed to run around in the crypt for hours and hours, slashing monsters while a mage may not rp to sit at the shore and throw fireballs out to the ocean?

There is no other way then to use spells stupidly often to gain skill. You can't achieve anything as a mage enginewise without powergaming.

It's not as serious as you think on the powergaming aspect.

At least, not in practise.

Or warp you somewhere to talk in private with you anyway. Besides Illarion is one of the best moderated games there is and it doesn't take long to look up who claimed to be a GM and punish him accordingly, so taking on a GM identity is a pretty stupid idea in the first place.

Also mal ehrlich zu den neuen Regeln:

Anti-PG is ok!

Widerspruch!

I agree with Greisling. This is very nice work. I'd just like to offer a couple of thoughts...
Estralis wrote:The old saying holds, as long as you roleplay and are not too much of an annoyance to the other players, you won't do anything wrong!
This is my least favorite of the old sayings. Could we get rid of the part about annoying others? It's vague and misleading.
Estralis wrote:9. Considerateness

There is a lot of room for interpretation there. Even if Christopher Rigden didn't phrase it the best possible way, it really isn't that clear. I think this rule needs to say very clearly exactly what is now forbidden rather than politely hinting at it. This is a big change in the game for a lot of players if I'm reading it right. Call it what it is.

GMs should do those things, but they don't always. I agree that there should be some way to be sure before a player is compelled to answer. It is very muddy to the average player whether someone is a current GM, a former one, an inactive one or a player that is not a GM at all, but is well informed because of access to GM information. I don't think anyone wants to be uncooperative, but the system just is not very transparent.

Thanks guys! :D

so i suppose that the suggested ways to teach magic about directed energies with that joke about how making babies is like makeing fire needs to be redone?? ooh porn.. yeah i think damien wrote that ... i understand not doing it in public that's just stupid any way.. but come on if im in the woods with my girl... (i dont have one btw just saying this because i joined the game due to it not having a G rating) we ARE ALONE if some one walks up on us.. not likely unless they know we are there (such thing could be whispered and halted if some one did get near and you could shoo the person away covered in cloak and startled)

can i say im fighting naked?? that's not too graphic is it? (that is a serious question i need an answer it is part of my RP)

basicaly.. this game just became digimon... not trying to spam just saying now i have to rewrite one of my characters whole profile because he cant "know" my other one.. half that rule makes sence no common interest of rp got it.. but the whole reason he came to the isle was to tortue the other through manipulating his friends.. and similarly the other hope his frineds can change the lil guy for the better..

please clarify " two characters cant Know each other"

other than the suden lack of realism due to the porn rule wich i understand i just dislike due to that said lack of realism.. i can live with it ... do i realy have to strike my character with retardation to make them forget the other exists?

oh one more thing if im rping and a gm tells me i see a festering wound on some one who's rping to be hurt again.. im reporting them for GORE.. because it is gore.

We can't cyber? Your must be kidding!

No, in all seriousness I think that completely banning this right makes the game less interesting (No, I'm not saying that cybering is sexy and that's the only reason I play). But, from your current set of "new" rules it seems you continue to place limitations on what POs and players are able to rp. One of the things I've always loved about Illarion is the open ended and open mindedness of the game. Okay, outlaw gore and language. That's understandable. But can you pull it back a bit and make rules involving actual IG and system offenses instead of placing limitations on the rp? I make this argument because if you can place limitations on sexual rp (What consults that label? I wouldn't let my "minor" see things that are PG13) then you can place them on other rp aspects of the game.

There is an age limit for the game and these types of situations are done outside of towns and beyond the "minors" that shouldn't be playing in the first place.

I understood that it was mentioned if some prefer to "spend hours" gaining skill rather then constant RP that is their choice as long as it doesn't interfere with others RP?

The translator must not have translated the posts in this thread appropriately then http://illarion.org/community/forums/vi ... c&start=30

Strong language = the F*** word and the C*** word. I assume you can still go around saying "shit" in times of need.

I agree with Julius, rp restrictions should be limited to reasonable things that will upset people. As far as I know, cybering won't upset anyone.
