ohm...
Werner

Illarion is a roleplaying game. But if your opinion is different, please go ahead, program a "tiny creatures" feature into server and client, script the items for that race and change all other item scripts to react as "too big", and then have fun making some animated graphics.
And if you're done with that, please go ahead and rewrite the world background parts where fairie descriptions are mentioned to match your change. These won't be too many, since fairies are quite a "new" race.
You need an essay to play a fairy, so the players aren't just random n00bs who decided to try out this new game without reading the rules.
I'm sure they're perfectally capable of roleplaying it themselves
Um, I was actually considering playing a vampire once. I didn't do it, though, since few would probably want to be bitten by a vampire, so they would just escape or something. What's the problem with playing a vampire? Sure, technically, there is no such thing, but still, what's the problem? You would have to ignore some of a vampires ability, more or less, like the ability to turn into a wolf or bat and such things, but still... What's wrong with it?
About the issue, I think 10 cm is way too small.

Laendrelle!
She could not be Haroks tiny friend if she was size of a small halfling. Ughm, his poor shoulder would hurt after a while, when she is sitting on it. But to be honest, Laendrelle was and is playing just exactly that kind of Fairy that i have in mind too. Would not like to see her as big as a sack of rice (and possibly that heavy, omg!).

Technically, Damien and the others are right. Fairies are actually about 8" to 1'3" tall according to my observations with "real fairies"...Technically, that's about 24 cm to 75 cm. And if what I understood is that the fairies of Illarion are modeled after the fairies of mythology, then that is about right.
And FYI, there are many differences between fairies, pixies, and sprites. PM me and I'll tell you a few.
Also, IMNSHO Disney sucks. They also own a shitload of porn sites that use both Rule 34 and illegal content. 'Nuff said.
-edit- also, back on to the topic of the size of fairies, most weigh about only 10 oz to 2 1/2 lbs.

I go by what I've learned through studying them and interacting with spiritual beings that...may actually be these subjects of mythology. I do have to say, most are around the measurements I've said. Also, wingspans for females are larger than males, and males have more...dragonfly-like wings...
On another partially related subject, fairies are often very mischievous and playful, and they like taking things or hiding them. They enjoy sweets, laughter, and sunny days. Most will not be malicious unless provoked or threatened. Many fairies also dwell in flowers, not trees, hence the common type of fairy, the flower fairy. Other types are those that dwell in water (undines), live amongst the trees (nymphs and tree fairies), and the mountain dwellers (sylphs). They are related to such beings like pixies, who are often unintentionally harmful and also very hyperactive, and sprites, who often are dwellers of gardens and parks these days and are most often helpful but hard to understand, as they usually don't speak much English from my experience, but rather, a few syllables of various languages.
However, like I said, Damien and the others are right on the size. However, let's hope that they don't start prattling on about there being no male fairies. There are...I "know" at least two from my spiritual experiences. Also, you can ask most elficologists or even various fairy enthusiasts and they will say that there are male fairies.
Forgiveness for my rant, I am potentially an extreme fairy enthusiast, even if I don't RP one in Illarion. PM me for info on fairies anytime.

...What do you want me to say? I'm a real life mage with a fairy for a spirit guide. Technically I do that daily. I also have done metaphysical and spiritual research on these matters to a point where it's all burnt into my brain for the most part.
Because of that, I may be one of the most knowledgeable people here on those subjects.
But, I've said enough, and I have to leave my house soon. So I'll be back in a few hours. Bye.

There are no vampires in illarion. They simply do not exist. Its like wanting to play an alien on earth, they don't exist (to our knowledge [cue lots of rubbish about hangar 18]).AlexRose wrote:So therefore good roleplayers should also be allowed to roleplay vampires by that logic.
Fairies do exist, and most people's definition of fairy; especially those who roleplay them, is of that of a small being, not a flying halfling. Timothy once had a fairy land on his chest while he was lying down dead scared in the mud, I suppose now I should roleplay him having smashed ribs.
Your argument is unrelated to my statement, it is .: illogical.
And Dei's argument that he has spoken to RL fairies is also useless to this argument. I can claim that I spoke to RL elves, and they're really tall and fat; its a perfectally pointless argument.
As for disney owning a bunch of porn sites...seriously dei, you need to calm down.
Alright then, I've seen orcs in other games mainly be red. Should I rp a red orc? Elves can be tiny little creatures which craft shoes and make toys for children, should I rp a miniature elf? That person rped the fairy wrong because this discussion has been had several times and it's always been indignantly stated that fairies are much bigger than conventional ones. In rl, humans can't do magic, and in other films, games and books, humans usually cannot. Therefore, we shouldn't rp humans being able to use magic? Illarion fairies aren't small, Damien made it clear, the character making page with height and weight make it clear, there's nothing to discuss. Some things in illarion are just different than they are in other things, and if you don't like that then you're just going to have to put up with it.

Firstly, if EVERYONE played red orcs, then orcs would be red.
Secondly, since everyone (? citation needed) plays fairies as being small, then its going to be really weird for them to fatten up all of a sudden; so instead of changing the only people who play it, change the background.
Also, I'm sure nobody wants to write out an application to be able to roleplay a halfling with wings.
As for the "Fairies exist", they do:

I have a proposal to make, because all this talking about RL makes it only complicated and does not solve anything.
How about this:
a) The players that desperately want to play a huge heavy fairy are allowed to. There is nothing changed in that.
b) Players who want to rp a small, tiny fairy are allowed too, the fairies can also be tiny and small and all, if the player is able to rp this consequently.
c) There is NO change in graphics needed, this was not the point of the discussion, I think, and also NO change in the current system. Why?
- Good rpers are able to rp a small fairy without a new system.
- I recently met a child char and it was AS HUGE as a grown-up in graphics, I understood though very quick that it was a child because the player rped this. And this did not matter for me. I think good rp is more usefull than graphics. And if a fairy is rped as tiny and small, and is rped well, then there should be no problem.
Please don't misunderstand me: Graphics are great, and wonderful, and everything. And I love Illarion like it looks. But for me, the rp around my chars is more important as the graphics.

But people will roleplay badly.Hadrian_Abela wrote:THAT'S WHAT ROLEPLAY IS FOR.
You roleplay your fairy as being weak, and you don't train it as a fighter or make it carry a ton and a half of wood.
e.g. a fairy can never buy anything because they can't carry coins. They can't carry any weapons, they'd find it extremely hard to find clothing and they couldn't pay for new clothing, they couldn't pay for food or hunt for it so they'd have to hang onto a cherry or something and stuff their face with it and it'd probably give them a week full of food... and probably be bland too. Fairies can do like.. nothing.. but I bet people will still use things on their fairies.
You could roleplay someone making specially small things for them, as for coins, they could carry one coin or so at a time, and leave the rest in the chest.
For food they could go get stuff from cherry trees, they roleplay that they pulled out a single cherry and infact they eat 10 or so.
Seriously Alex.

We could use a bit of what's called "suspension of disbelief", and strike a compromise between playability and realism (realism not relating to "our" real life...but meaning what's seems logical and so on).
People can roleplay their fairy to be small, to not be able to carry things and so on. But sometimes, they can make exceptions to keep the game fun for them.

They'd have to heave a coin, it'd be like the same size of them. That'd be a pretty damned strong fairy to pick up something the size of itself made of metal. On top of that, how are they meant to buy stuff? Do it 1 coin at a time? And how do you propose they managed to get those coins in the first place? I doubt someone would waste time paying them one copper at a time and waiting for them to put them in the depot. On top of that, fairies should die in one hit from anything except other fairies, do absolutely no damage to anything except fairies etc.Hadrian_Abela wrote:You could roleplay someone making specially small things for them, as for coins, they could carry one coin or so at a time, and leave the rest in the chest.
Alex, what on earth is your problem?
Yes, having playable fairies isn't the best idea according to me either. But the solution isn't to change them to winged halflings. And anyway, if you have something the size of a halfling, you'd need pretty strong wings to carry it, not delicate ones like a butterfly's wings.
So OMG-unrealism!11111111oneoneoneelevensin90sin90cos0
