Of course you can die on a ship, you can do anything you'd normally be able to do except leave the ship. You can walk around it, attack, cast (but you can't teleport off or on).

The script is written and still working.
But the current map offers just a few possible routes for the ships and the client does contain the graphics in the needed way.

What I'd like to know is...will you control them manually every step of the way? Set a coarse from x to y and wait a few minutes/actual time until you arrive?
Hopefully it'll be the first, it'll allow some pretty good rp'ing while aboard...

I have a feeling it will use the "right click walk to" feature.
