Question about languages

Post by NirAntae »

I'll probably just be told to go figure it out IG, but learning is so slow, I never know what works and what doesn't. myeh.

Anyway, what *actually* works for learning new languages, once you have that crucial first step? I know actually speaking it works (or at least one would assume so). Does listening to others speak the language actually work? What about performing actions while your language is switched? Does the length of what you say make any difference? And so on..

Languages

What is the crucial first step you speak of? Do we have NPC trainers in game that teach you the language or is there some way for a player to teach it to you?

Well, for ancient, you can get a book from the various mage teachers. For elven, there used to be an NPC teacher, but he's gone now.

Could anyone please answer the original question instead of squabbling about other random aspects?

And the school is listed in the guild section, btw.

You practice it by talking to people in that language and by hearing them speak it as well

"What about performing actions while your language is switched?"

Not sure what you mean by that

and i think the length does affect the amount you learn, not sure though

Are you still practicing the language you have yourself set to if you do #me's, or #w's for that matter?

And I'd really like to know from a dev or similar if *hearing* a language will actually increase your knowledge of it.

Not really... The gms just thought they should put him onto an other place because somehow, every damnit character knew, where he was, without actually ask someone :P
