Welcome to Illarion!
If you're one of our newer players who's come in recently, you may be wondering a lot of the mechanical aspects of Illarion
Crafting
- Currently to craft you will need to stand in front of a crafting station with the appropriate tool in your hand and double click on either the tool in your hand or the crafting station
- If you encounter a new crafting station, you can double click on it to find out the tool required
- You'll only see the recipes your character has the skill to make, so don't worry if all you see are one or two things!
- NPC Vendors will generally have everything you need for crafting, but players will always be cheaper by an order of magnitude
- Each realm has a guild dedicated to specific crafts, ask around to find the one you want to master
Combat
- Falling in combat doesn't mean the end for your character (If you don't want to RP permanent death, anyway) The goddess of death will spare you and send you to your town's pillar of resurrection, though your skills and sats will be drained until you have recovered from your wounds.
- When in combat with another player, it is a storytelling game of chess, Wait for players to react to confrontation with dialogue and emotes, Different players type at different rates, always be certain that they are prepared for combat, we play with, not against.
- Please report any players attacking without showing respect to reciprocation
- Combat is split into three parts - melee, ranged and magic
-Melee
Melee has a system of weapon types and armours to encourage flexibility
It has three armour types:
-Heavy
-Medium
-Light
and three weapon types:
-Blunt
-Slashing
-Piercing
The armour and weapons are balanced to be weak and strong against certain types, so feel free to experiment and fine out what is best!
Ranged combat
The important thing to note about ranged combat is that it might be tough for a first time player as it would require some knowledge about how the game works
But, to be a ranger, and use ranged weapons,
you will need:
To be at least three squares away from your target
To have a ranged weapon (EG, Sling, bow) in your hand, and your ammunition (Pebbles, Arrows, etc) in your other
Fast feet!
Magic
Magic is quite broad, and the system we've got now is still quite new, so i can't speak with authority on it myself, but there is an NPC in Troll's haven (The place where you start out) named Terry Ogg, who can help you out with the basics!
General
These are general tips that might help you out
Controls
- Press F1 for a list of commands in game
- #me before a message is to do an action, #w is to whisper, #s is to shout and #o is to do out of character chat
- Anything in ((double brackets)) is considered Out of character (OOC)
- Pressing B will open your bag, I will open your inventory-
- #me before a message is to do an action, #w is to whisper, #s is to shout and #o is to do out of character chat
- Shift clicking when dragging items allows you to split stacks
- Ctrl will toggle between run and walk, Running is infinite, so no need to worry about stamina
- We have a general FAQ page, which might help with any questions i might have missed https://illarion.org/general/us_faq_general.php
- Player names are marked in Yellow, Friendly NPCs in blue, and Hostile ones in red
- Asking friendly NPCS for 'Help' will give a list of their dialogue options
- Double clicking on friendly NPCs will give a list of generic dialogue options
- Don't be afraid to ask questions in Out of character chat! use #o to ask any questions you have
- The game has a system called MC (Mental cap) that does it's best to incentivise RP alongside skilling which is detailed here https://illarion.org/general/us_faq_general.php#gc9 , so don't feel like you're missing out on skill gain by RPing!
- While you shouldn't feel pressured to join a realm, it becomes a LOT easier for a new player if you do, as you'll be surrounded by other players who you can ask questions.
- You'll see a lot of little blue marker stones around the place, those are explorer stones! Activating them can be good for giving you some early cash, equipment, and incentive to go exploring
- Item quality goes as follows, from best to worst: Perfect Excellent Very Good Good Normal Average Bad Awful
- Generally speaking at the moment European evening times are the busiest, but don't let that discourage you from logging in
- If you've got any questions that i didn't answer here, or the FAQs didn't answer, feel free to join our discord https://discord.gg/yj3htPN or ask here on this thread
Thanks and enjoy Illarion!
