market section on forum?

Post by cjauncey »

im not so sure about this proposal

maybe it is allowed to post market posts in the rpg section

but wouldnt it be nice to have a dedicated section?

it would save the hassle of standing around in game hasseling everybody with "are you a smith?" etc etc etc

in those times people would have posted market offers on a notice board

anyway just an idea probably been posted and rejected before
but its worth a try

I think that asking people "Are you a smith" is whats wanted. It creates some roleplay. I've seen auctions in the RPG section before, but mainly I think seeking out the seller is whats encouraged, (and more fun).

They dont allow it. You can post the date of an auction, but they to promote ingame action.

Another known problem with auctioning, is it wastes space on the roleplaying board. Some threads tend to sink to the bottom of the forum, depending on the item that's being sold. The GMs want players to go ingame to sell things, so player interaction ingame is presented in some way (as Cliu mentioned).

A forum was created by a couple of players for this type of situation, but I'm not too sure if it's very active.

then maybe it could be for advertising

for example

Cjauncey is selling lumber at two gold pieces each
he can usually be found roaming around in trollsbane

then nothing more just to let people know that that person is selling that certain type of item

You could use a single thread for advertising, but then you would have to realize: What if others post their character's items on that thread? Within time, it's possible that the viewers would have to deal with a 10-20 page thread with nothing but character items. For example, what if someone's searching for two-handed sword? Rather than knowing which post contains the item he or she is looking for, they would have to browse all 10 or 20 pages, just to find one item.

You could split up the items into different groups, but that would waste a lot of room on the forum. With the Illarion Market forum, everything is already arranged in different boards / threads.
