How about this then: Starting skills are increased: the primary skill up to 30, secondary skills to 20. AND the skill system is altered to decrease the effect of skill level. Imagine (for the purposes of this example) a character's fighting strength is represented by a single number. At the moment l...

Much fun is gained from developing a character, starting as sucking noob and ending up as Lord of Whateverton. I agree, character development through RP = fun. Mindless clicking to increase a set of numbers =/ fun. Becoming Lord of Whateverton shouldn't be the result of increasing some numbers. Gue...

Its a problem because then we'd have all these just started playing illa people being awsome fighters/crafters and there would be no point to even having skills anymore, since you wouldn't have to work for them. Wouldn't you rather actually have people playing? And they wouldn't be awesome, just ab...

I think 20% is pointless, if that is all that's gonna change you might as well just leave the system as it is. Anything else is a bit too much, and 70% is right out - you'd have 'just started' smiths who could make more than half the items in game. Why is that a problem? They haven't just started, t...

I completely agree with this proposal. I believe that implementing this, combined with less variation in the effects of skill level would result in a much, much better game. And something a lot closer to what Illarion claims to be. It is ridiculous that a character's past is completely ignored. If y...

Re: The Armour Problem
I agree that 6 months RL is too long for armour to be lasting. However, not even 1/5th of the people surveyed had their armour last this long. Does armour deteriorate because of time or usage? 1. seems like a sensible option to make sure that armour doesn't last such a long period of time. But if pe...

Yeah true, although I don't think this game is ever going to attract anyone other than RPers and those wishing to learn. There is a huge number of other games that have better game mechanics, better graphics and actually have a decent amount of players. Most people would choose one of those games ov...

I'd forgotten about that, thanks Alex. That backs up what I've been saying all through this thread. Alexander is only a slightly above average warrior and was not at all harmed by two characters, both who had trained their combat skills at least a little and one with some decent equipment. Do many n...

As a warrior-PO i can say: It would really suck if a bunch of new chars could run around and kill my char. It took me dozends of hours to bring him to his level and i dont want to see some newcomers running around, owning him when they gather up in gangs of 5-6. Yeah, I thought that might be a prob...

So don't expect the mechanics of the game to change to suit your particular way of thinking. Sorry, I certainly wasn't expecting anything like that. I just thought I'd bring it up since it could possibly fix some of the problems we seem to be having. New players wouldn't be completely useless and c...

Why have such a huge variance in the effects of skill levels? I thought that Illarion's player base frowned upon powergaming? And surely numbers should count for something? This isn't a 1970's Bruce Lee film. and why would it be possible for a poor warrior to be a beat warrior without any sort of ta...

Combat Questions
How many brand-new characters can a fully trained (mostly/all yellows) warrior take on all at once (and win)? Also, how many average (greens) fighters could a fully trained warrior take on alone? Obviously I don't expect exact numbers, but I'd like a rough idea of the maximum in each situation. Actu...

I found this game two or three weeks ago, and I was disappointed...disappointed that it had taken me this long to discover. This is such a brilliant idea and game, and I cannot believe that it lets itself be dragged down by such an intense grind and the restrictions that have been discussed in this ...
